  • 45 mph is "flying"?

  • @scdevon Nope. Also, this wasn't 45 mph.

  • This area of the state has fucked itself up with cancerous californication.

  • they need 3 P42's to get up the cascades huh?

  • i could almost see my house.

  • The USA has a rail system focused on moving freight...in that respect it is the best in the world.

  • Stop with the intrusive ads

  • @NMrailrunner7 Those ads make it so I can afford to go out there...

  • It seems from these videos that the US has a really dated rail network, Europe (especially France) is leading the way.

  • He is not going all that fast. I have videos of about 80 - 85 MPH. Sweet video though.

  • if that is flying, I wonder what you would call it if it was actually going fast.....

  • crawling?

  • hes not FLYING!!

  • @UniversalRailfanner K. Thanks.

  • This train isn't at full speed, but slowed up as there are four level crossings in Monroe. There is another passenger train that pulls through town every so often. It is red. Any idea what it is? I never have a camera handy when I see it.

BTW a new stop has been added on this Amtrak route. It now stops in Leavenworth once a day both eastbound and westbound. You still can't make a day trip to Leavenworth from Seattle by train, unless you pay big bucks to ride the Santa Train in December.

  • I wonder if two of those engines were dead in tow?

  • I used to live in monroe when i was little. i remember the amtrak !! I live in tulsa ok now.

  • The only "problem" I've had with police while railfanning is I was railfanning from an overpass, and someone who had driven by me twice called the police because they thought I was going to jump off of the overpass. I've actually got a video of the Amtrak train I caught while the police were there on my profile. It was an interesting experience.

  • thats not very fast. Alaska railroad is faster.

  • Alaska sucks.

  • Looked to me like it had 3 P-42's attached.

    NOT 2

  • It sure did. If you want to get technical, I only said what was leading, and yes, 3 P42DC's were on the consist :P. Thanks for the comment.

  • wow, that was a very short empire builder. they normaly have 11 car!

  • This is the Seattle section of the train. The other half operates as #27/28 to Portland. They combine and split in Spokane.

  • thats awesome! your lucky u had a nice cop. I didnt..he told me next time he catches me near the train tracks i'd be fined AND amtrack police wiuld be notified. this is why i hate cops....i film trains while ON the track so i get better view just to piss off cops.

  • I feel for you. I've had to deal with annoying cops too, though for different reasons. Luckily I haven't yet had to deal with rude cops while railfanning, but always think in the back of my mind that my luck probably will end at some point.

Regardless, you think cops would have more important things to deal with than harass people who railfan, and also follow proper safety rules!

  • STAY OFF RAILROAD PROPERTY!

You can get excellent shots while doing things PROPERLY.

    Do it right.

Film from the public sidewalk outside the gates where you are perfectly legal.

Do grade crossings so that you can catch any morons getting hit.

  • We haven't been this close since and I wasn't trespassing. The cop said I wasn't.... It's a tripod. I was no trespassing. I've reported many trespassers READ: On the tracks, walking, etc.) So yeah, thanks.

  • If we are inside lowered gates, we are tresspassing.

I have had my tripod right between the rails while on the sidewalk.

But when the signals activated, moved outside the gates so that I remain legal.

If an officer wanted to cite me, he could not. Or, I'd win in court.

I always try to include the signals for more color and sound and action, and if someone gets hit.

Or use in court if I sign a complaint against someone. (If only your word against theirs, they win if no proof.)

  • well i was close, and the cop came and said hi, you having a fun time? i said yes. he said "good!' and we talked for awile then said ok, have a good night!

  • What Kind Of Camera Do You Use

  • Canon Z950 Camcorder. I actually shot this video with a crappy point and shoot CAMERA. Check out some of my newer videos to see how the videos from my new camcorder look.

  • whow, that trains is quiet Overkill.. 2 locomotives for just 5 cars... are there special reasons for this?

  • it was comeing from over stevens pass, the extra locomotive is added help up the pass.

  • That was a nice cop. Like you said in your About this video!

  • Thanks :)

  • vrenbabcockatehn stole your video.

  • Thanks for telling me.

  • Really nice shot, nice job.

  • Thanks!

  • wat is borderlining?

  • For me and Andrew Kim, this means that we are getting to close for comfort to the tracks, so we might need to back up. That is what the officer told us, as well.

  • ok me and my friend think i did that yesterday to Norfolk Southern. The girl conductor was like stay off the rails and we werent even ON the rails!!! But she was concerned for our safety

  • Just be careful you aren't getting too close, otherwise the railroad may put up a fence so no railfans can go in the area. That has happened when some UP railfans up in California got to close and bam, railroad police patrols and fences, no trespassing signs. Also, someone just got hit and killed by Amtrak in Simi Valley, so do be careful.

  • well im no where near Amtrak but for some reason i think the speed limit for NS in my town webt down

  • what agreat echo from a ever so faden old ladd,ER' days are numbered now,as newer K5LLAS,K5HLs,K5Ls,K5HAs,K5HLLs,K5LLs take over.oh,my,what great horn it was,we'll forever miss the K5LA,as we did RS3Ls n RS5Ts!

  • I could not agree more. I love the K5LA. Thanks for the comment, Mark :)

  • Another great video of the Empire Builder! Nice!!! You know the waterfront trolley in Seattle, right?

  • Yes Mike, I have ridden that many times. Unfortunately, the idiotic mayor of Seattle decided to yank up the trolley line in favor of a stupid "urban sculpture park", so the only trains you will see down by the waterfront now are BNSF/UP and an occasional passenger train, unfortunately. When I heard the mayor's initial announcement about that, I was so peeved. I still am, Mike, actually, but thanks for the nice comment, Mike :)

  • Yeah, when I went to seattle in 2003, I went on it. I was wondering if they are ever planning to re-open it?

  • I have heard some rumors about it coming back but nothing solid, I highly doubt it it will ever see the light of day again... The rail still there just under a bunch of asphalt... Very sad I used to ride it as a child and my son wanted to ride even more that he has a train movie with it in it..

Not to forget to mention they were going to expand the monorail, but that was so covered in scandal it got scrapped...
