  • "Artist are pussies"

  • I saw him do this live from memory to about 50 people in Edinburgh about 5 years ago - it was genuinely amazing. Now this has 287,000 views - for some reason i find that very uplifting.

  • I AM SPEECHLESS!!!!!!!

  • <3

  • GODLY

  • Yessss! I totally to touch him and get touched by him and take a photo with him and everything. And he would be pleased to know that I was objectifying him for most of that set. Yes. awesome.

  • i find jeffrey lewis incredibly attractive. And I get to see him tomorrow night in sheffield. You better watch out Jeff, i'm gonna get ya.

  • I'm in love with you

  • lyrical powerhouse

  • harvest moon :)

  • Not only are artist pussies, they are also cunts.

    (Great song.)

  • Such a funny yet genius song. Love this guy. Way underrated.

  • Oh my god, Elfquest t-shirt! Did NOT expect that awesomeness.

  • @GabrielGaleano different strokes for different folks

  • ah jaysus....tis' himself

  • I'm so happy I've not had this in my life. It will stay with me for a very long time.

  • loved this!

  • this is funny

  • get out of brooklyn

  • Nice!

  • Burn Williamsburg. Burn it to the ground.

    Song's okay!

  • this is pretty good, but im super turned off by the overloading of words. If he found a way to say all that in fewer words, i think this song would be super amazing

  • @flikda3flip Sorta ruins what so many people love about it though. I feel that the "overloading of words" gives this song the right atmosphere, how each verse starts with pretty much the same line and then jeffrey's stream of consciousness style make this song feel quite dream-like, the tangents that he goes off on. Ramblings about life, just because he though he saw will oldham on the L train in the morning. . It makes this a true masterpiece.

  • Brilliant!

  • camus wished he was milton. this song is so awesome.

  • most perfect song ive heard since the mountain goats No Children.

  • That was fucking awesome!

  • apparently you either love it or hate it. i love it!

  • Does anyone have any mp3s they can send me? PM me please.

  • FUCK. YEAH.

  • Not being a New Yorker but a native of Oldham's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, this video is so funny because Will Oldham sightings here are frequent and mythical.

They typically go like this: "Whoa, there's Will Oldham wearing orange short shorts riding on a bike!"

then followed by "Oh my god! You're right!"

OR followed by "No dude, that's the photographer creeper who preys on young hipster girls like he's the Dov Charney of Louisville. Why would Will Oldham wear orange short shorts?"

  • phenomenal

  • omnomnom...

  • I was really liking it until the end. I want that part out of my head xD

  • Is it supposed to sound like this? or is my YouTube busted?

  • Kinda funny but not really... Way too drawn out... Why did Regina want me to watch this? Why Regina why?!?!?!

  • @RobinCakes

...Because Regina is a creative genius?

I'm glad I clicked on it.

  • @RobinCakes shut up doofuss..drawn out my arse...

  • aaaaa

  • soo much good in this

    'hapless in our hipness'

the thing about dylan wishing he was ginsberg/camus

all the will oldham things - names/song reference

and the thing about house shows/moms liking songs

lots of quality existential ideas,,,hmm well done

  • RIP Tuli Kupferberg.

  • David Tibet for example does this way better. Not my preference.

  • @heintron

this is nothing like c93 lyrically or in delivery. i like c93 way better too, but it's not similar really.

  • I think the reason this song hits me the most is because it's so familiar. It's an uncomfortably accurate image of life sometimes. It's too true of a song.

"'Hey, 'ma, guess what today, I did another magazine interview!'

'Honey, that's great, you're really famous!!' Yeah and I'm 27 too!

I kinda thought I was gonna grow up to do stuff that would benefit humanity

But it's getting harder to tell if this artist's life is even benefitting me..."

    God. I love this.

  • Both funny and philosophical, and it made me think.

  • so crazie gooood

  • oh, i love this.

  • I am normally not a very lyric-minded listener, but this song is amazing. Describing such an existential crisis in words is hard to do. Genius.

  • wow i cant believe i watched this whole thing

  • i watched this video almost two years ago.. i tried so hard to find it afterwards but i forgot the artist and the title.. I was asking all my friends and on internet forums-- imagine trying describe the story of the video to other people!! glad finally found it!!

Has anyone heard of this song, Talkiing Words, by Zweng? (it's available on iTunes.) Tell me I am not the only one who thinks the two songs sound alike.

  • Exactly why I'm movin out of new york

  • This is two years old. Mean. I'm back in the NZ. But relate to this and happy to not necessarily be stuck in that crowd of too hip faces.

  • freakin brilliant and hilarious!!

  • I started off with this strange look on my face, and by the end of this video I was smiling like I just saw my first boobie.

  • mattisprettycool....you're pretty right.

  • Genius

  • he's strangely awesome!

  • amazing. I love this song, it articulates a certain existential dread unlike anything else.

  • Anyone else think Jeff sounds really like Lou Reed?

  • "'Tis Himself" ... fucking AWESOME. Good job, dude. Good job.

  • once 3:50 hits you realize this is a really amazing song.

  • what a weird lookin dude.

  • Jeffrey lewis = new favorite artist. thug boss 4 life.

  • this song is very good

  • Good use of foreshadowing.

  • Is there a specific song that this is spoofing?

  • was that fuggin TULI?!

  • Check out this new magazine DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN, full of amazing short stories and poetry:

    c om

It won't let me write the link so use your imagination... Enjoy!

  • fucking briliant.

  • since utube that is google can't get the reply function to work

properly, I suggest indicating if your comment is a reply--otherwise there's a lot of gibberish, which is

actually the condition of most peoples' minds these days,

    not cool.

  • To constantly sing at that rate for 5:50 without messing up takes some skill. It must be a hard song to perform live.

  • hey guy i liked this song it was different after i saw your history of punk video it was a good song.... hope to see some more videos....

  • the flickering sunlight on his face looks terrific in the beginning when he sings "...like the Burghers of Calais..."

(had to look that up on wp)

  • i'm totally going as will oldham for halloween

  • Yeah, isn't it great?

  • are you kidding. anyone who says that reveals their idiocy.

and what would you talk about? uhh...

it's brilliant. he gets the zeitgeist dude and you don't even know what a zeitgeist is.

  • he is amazing! will oldham is awesome!

  • don't stop thinking about tomorrow!

    :)

I'd say yeah, if you can do this, being a pussy

    is right on.

  • Not many songs, when I hear them for the first time, make my jaw drop because of how good they are, but this one did.

  • Love Jeffrey Lewis. He always has something interesting to say in his songs.

  • Jeffrey Lewis is a force for good in the world. I love him.

  • Me too. This is just... ingeniously clever.

    Awesome ^^

  • Is this what you'd call an "anti-song"?

  • Only if I had truly given up and felt that Jeffrey Lewis had as well. Otherwise, it is certainly a brilliant actual song.

  • I love this song. Genius.

  • Whoa!

  • Jeffrey is Iain Lee.

  • such a perfect story. inspires me

  • :D owns

  • JEFFREY, you rock! If you ever come back to Austin, I hope we can meet again, Joe L.

  • Oh my god. What a fucking lyrical genius!

  • funny thing i was always sure i saw jeffrey lewis on the L train

  • Dont approach him! he might fuck you in the arse. If this song teaches us anything........

  • haha. this is funny. fun fact, wil oldham graduated from my high school. which is pretty cool

  • this is pretty cool. wasn't sure at first though

  • Cant wait until the trust funds dry up and williamsburg returns to a NY neighborhood.

  • Great song and video!

  • my friend showed me this song a year or so ago. still love it. still havent' checed anything else of his out. :|

  • You must! This is just the tip of the iceberg, really he is amazing.

and isuppose i'd rather hear it like this then read it.

  • wow. this is impressive. but really, how does one maintain that much anxiety? i guess you have to be born and raised in brooklyn.

  • I love this dude, he is playing with Darren Hanlon around Australia at the moment. He played this in Petersham.....love it

  • Yeah, I saw them last night at the Tea Club in Nowra. Absolutely fantastic, I reckon Lewis stole the show with this and Creeping Brain.

  • this a such an annoyingly amazing song but i don't think will oldham would hurt someone like that.

  • just brilliant. sums up everything about what it's like to be alive and 27 right now in williamsburg.

  • He's confused about his life.

  • Listen.... I was looking for hipster videos to make fun of and honestly....

This video is the best thing I've ever seen come out of that whole scene in williamsburg. Jeff, this was amazing. This video is 2 years old so I hope you're still going.

  • @thiscantbesustained

except jeff lewis isn't from that scene.he was born and raised on the LES and began playing at the Sidewalk cafe in the late 90s.

  • does this guy have a cd i could buy online or in store?

  • go to his site.

  • you can buy his stuff on itunes. His albums are great. Totally worth it!

  • itunes

  • Man's a genius...

  • cool!

  • Jeff inspires me to write music thats actually honest rather then masking my message with other peoples opinions and metaphors. Does that sound pretentious? I'm sure it does, but in short.. I think Jeff is awesome.

  • I got the same feeling.

  • i know exactly what you mean about jeff. his honesty and intelligence is really inspiring.

  • I love this song. :D

The way he ran away was hilarious. XD

  • I kinda wish this song had a better payoff at the very end, but still, greatness. 5/5.

  • Is he wearing an Elf Quest shirt?

  • Probably.

  • To many pricks hating. if you can't see this mans talent then your not meant to or your just not listening. Try the chelsea hotel song and then comment
