This was my first anime ever, and will always be my favorite. I just rewatched this episode, and thought it might hurt less this time. No.

This scene has caused me more raw emotional pain than anything else in entertainment, and it ranks up there with my tougher life moments (granted, I have never lost a lover or close friend in my time). Absolutely tortuous to behold, and a masterpiece on the behalf of KyoAni.

Experiencing this again proved to me that After Story is the best show out there.

She actually did die, and everything in those five years really happened. But because of the wish, Tomoya was able to change that. I hope I helped.
