  • nice motivation dipshit. btw he didnt say this cockmuncher

  • It was OK. I just don't think that telling kids they have to enter the regular workforce is true. Everyone can go out and make their own job. They only have to flip burgers until they figure out what they wanna to for themselves. Corporate america is falling into the trash can wake up and make your own job, be your own boss.

  • FAIL. Bill Gates did not say this. A fellow classmate enlightened us. "The actual “rules” come from a man named Charles J. Sykes who published a book in the mid- 1990’s titled 50 Rules Kids Won’t Learn in School: Real-World Antidotes to Feel-Good Education. The speech attributed to Bill Gates is directly lifted from this text. You can easily find the book and excerpts from the text on the Internet at places like Amazon.com."

  • @ruthiechan True. listen to the message, but Bill Gates was not the messenger. He got where he is by being in the right place at the right time, knowing the right people to help him, and being a ruthless ass who gave the guy who wrote DOS a few pennies for his work and profited mightily from it. In real life now, Gates is an ivory tower liberal who hates his own people and sponsors the millennium scholarships which specifically help any American student who is NOT white. Look it up.

  • YOUTUBE you suck!! Too many ads!

  • I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who sees the irony of Bill Gates teaching kids at a school what they will never learn in school

  • Bill Gates never said these words and this video is therefore a lie - These are the words of Charles Sykes, Author of Dumbing Down Our Kids - Before you post such lies, you should do your homework and research what you claim -

  • Great sense of humor! We love it! Very courageous of Bill Gates to tell it the way it is in such a hilarious way! Thanks!

  • great wisdom, it's true. I love the first part though, feel good. When you feel good you tend to be happier.

  • @frea1able I think it's supposed to be "He talked about how feel good, politically correct teachings have created a generation of kids...set them up for failure.

  • Bill Gates still uses the term, "car phones"?

  • this approach is wrong in every way i mean if bill gates didnt do these rules then i belive it is wrong seeing as he is a grown man however if kids don't whine or complain they wouldn't be kids the future generations need us yet we neglect them this is not their fault yet we have a cunt telling us soe shit we already know and thank as if there isn't enough shit on our plates as it is tell us that we are bad parents cheers mate nice of u his whole speech is based on globalisation talk.

  • How fucking inspirational.

  • Rule 11 and 1/2: Sex for the first time is exactly like porn, and you'll last for 20 minutes. Believe it.

  • Yet there are people who just for no real reason faill at these 11 rules, and we as society leave them in the dirt, what does this say about humankind?

Only 1 thing: We should be exterminated.

  • Respect

  • This list was made by Charles J. Sykes, not Gates.

  • NAME OF SONG?

  • Bill Gates didn't say this, but eye opening.

  • ITT: butthurt macfags

  • @TheRevengeancer

    Sounds about right.

  • The awkward moment when your watching this on an apple mac.

  • Anyone dumb enough to read this an not realize that Gates would NEVER talk like this is an idiot. Bill is of the lefty loonies crowd and has no idea what it takes to be successful. He was lucky to be in an industry that generated a monopoly on operation systems. He abused that excess wealth and destroyed innovation and set us back 20 years. That crown belonged to Steve Jobs and the disgust Steve felt no doubt sent him to an early grave. Read 11 Rules, Dumbing Down our Kids by Charles Sykes

  • Bill's only rule;

Luck out and get a contract from the worlds biggest and dumbest computer manufacturer (IBM circa 1981) for a part of the software that requires market uniformity to be useful. Buy that software for $200,000 from Gary Kindall who doesn't know about IBM's deal, relabel it as MSDOS and sell it for billions, while Gary Kindall drinks himself to death.

  • @tomintroy Well said. I agree 100%

  • @tomintroy "Life isn't fair, get used to it."

  • Yawn. I would have thought Bill Gates would have something slightly more enlightening to say, rather than just jumping on the "gen Y are useless, entitled, egocentric, etc." bandwagon. And where are all these mythical schools where no-one ever fails or loses at anything? I keep hearing people bitching about them; but I've never seen one myself???

  • @FireSpinnerAndy you are gay.

  • Lie. snopes.com/politics/soapbox/schoolrules.asp

  • Rule 12 steal all the ideas that make you your living & take part in as many unethical & illegal market practices as you can profitably get away with

  • @DavidByrne85 I guess you're speaking from your own personal experiences right? ....

because just about everybody steals ideas from everybody else.

  • We know that all our life. Glad that it's from Bill Gate so hopefully people can come to reality! This is even more realistic if u ever have a chance working in Asia. These rules actually applies to adults if they never got the message b4.

  • Why is he so negative? one is just as likely to succeed in life as one is to fail (also depends on how one defines success and failure)

  • @Blahblahbox1 he is not negative, he is just trying to be a realist and for real thats true and what happens in life!!

  • @Rallymania1 bill gates nows how tough bosses are cuz you dont start off being the boss of microsoft

  • @lilroach226 ...Bill Gates started Microsoft with Paul Allen; he started off as being the boss of Microsoft.

How the fuck do you not know this?

  • Bill Gates did NOT write or say these things. This is an urban myth. DO NOT think flipping burgers is an opportunity, it most certainly is NOT, and Bill Gates did not accept flipping burgers as an opportunity for himself.

Fight for universal healthcare, because NO burger joint will give it to you.

Unions, not bosses, or politicians, gave Americans the 40 hr work week and child labor laws.

I was a tank commander during the first Gulf war and I will fight for America, and the constitution.

  • @rochelle1088 well then your an idiot.

  • how do we know he said this if you just wrote it yourself?

  • capitalist shit-head

  • @jonahking indeed, where is fucking in the nature at?

  • @jonahking Yeah, just like Steve Jobs!

  • My opinion of Gates just went WAY down. His "rules" are good for corporate America, not good for the kids he is speaking to. I know many multi millionaires. None of them got that way by accepting burger flipping. If you think your time is only worth a few buck an hour it is. I would bet a lot of money that Bill would never have accepted flipping burgers. What a joke. He has a lot of you hypnotized cuz he is a billionaire, but duh, he wouldnt be one if he encouraged to create jobs not find them.

  • bill gates is dumb, he stole steve jobs ideas to make windows, he is a traitor and steve jobs was screaming at bill gates face saying: how can you do this to me. he is a afke and dumb

  • Bill Gates Billionaire and still living. Nuff said!!

  • @m9u7shuriken If being "dumb" gets you billions of pound, then I want to be 'dumb'. The only truly dumb person around here is you.

  • @m9u7shuriken actualy steve jobs stole from ibm. learn your computer facts bill gates just expanded upon osx and made a superior operating system. mac osx is useless.

  • It would have been nice to have seen this video 10 years ago

  • @zennith559 You're 27 and i'm 17 in a few months, so your 10 years ago is my present now. Dont you wish you had YouTube back then :D

  • I once had to write this in detention...

  • @adammccormick95 LMAO I think this shoulda been one of the top comments..

  • My teacher showed this in our economics class today (ironic, considering the title), and I smiled at the last one.

  • See that? That's the world's coolest nerd

  • I don't microsoft, I like Sony. But 98% of what Bill Gates said was right.

  • I didnt get #7. My parents are interesting. Does that mean I dont talk enough? I also didnt think they ruined the rainforest.

  • god the music in the back is annoying

  • He has a different speech for the non working class.

  • Gee Wiz! A CAR PHONE! Maybe one day :D. Good Video, but I think everyone can be the exception. Some kids make 60K before highschool- Teenage millionaires. If they can do it, you can do it. We all have talents, it just depends on how you focusing them. I know bill is a billionaire so I'm not disagreeing with him entirely, but I don't think its just fair to say "You won't make 60K out of highschool". Pce.

  • and thats why I accept that my life will be hell and I won't do anything I wanted to as a child....cause life isn't fair, nobody else gives a shit..and I accept my limits XD

  • @RoyaReese whoa, calm down, on the the youtube search type: Steve Jobs: Thoughts on Life.

  • Come on , that's a demotivational vid ! Basically he's just saying " life is getting harder and harder"

  • @DarkSerris Because it is. Innovation is out pacing education. 6 years ago you couldn't say you were an app designer, data miner, or youtube partner as an occupation. Much of our educational system is set up to instill a feeling of entitlement and victimization.

I'm sick of working around people who expect an equal share for less or shoddy work. Never take responsibility for their problems.

You're telling me to like that? Do you like it?

    Righteous indignation is harsh.

  • @DarkSerris It is getting harder...Being able to think one step ahead is not good enough anymore. Kids today are being set up to fail.. the educational system is a farce. If you dont conform to what the college or uni decides is correct your kicked out. We are allowed to question anymore. The internet has destroyed young minds... Back in the day if you came across a problme you had to work it out now people just use google. they cant think for themselves.

  • I have a feeling that Bill Gates didn't say any of these things.

  • This is the WORST motivational video i have ever seen!!!

  • geez, they're all rules designed to turn you into a worker drone.

  • i have a strong suspicion that the quotes can not be attributed to Mr. Gates. However I haven't the inclination to prove this wrong.......they are just so contradictory to his life.

  • thank's for the music

P.S : the song is called MUTE isn't it ?

  • The ironic thing is that posters with these rules are all over schools now.

  • Good stuff - somewhat negative but maybe he is targeting it at a a younger generation . . .

  • This video is stupid! Those words are targeted to keep children with the mentality of 'getting a job' rather than creating jobs, which is what Mr. Gates did.

Any billionaire that wants you to 'get a job' isn't giving you inspirational advice, they are actually keeping you down, because no billionaire got there by getting a job!

Thumbs up if you agree :)

Also, These rules really aren't from Bill Gates. They are quoted from "Dumbing Down Our Kids" a book written by Charles J. Sykes

  • @unknownbdbx Don't forget that he " stole " an idea and a concept before " creating jobs. " It's a little disingenuous if he did do this.

  • @FMAStudent like Steve Jobs (another billionaire...(RIP)) says, "good artists copy, great artists steal."

    Yes, it would be disingenuous.

  • great guy

  • Last one made me chuckle. We gotta work hard and smart..for ourselves .

  • what is a car phone?

  • This is some tough medicine to swallow but in the end all the tips are true, so its for the best that we learn them fast and learn them early.

  • Every college major should include at least a two classes on working within a team structure, socialization, and verbal comminucation including body language. These skills dictate success of failure. Working in any business is all about people and is very, very, personal. Your success in business depends completely on how much people like you.

  • @mjpitche Wow... this is profoundly true, and it will never happen. Jeffrey Pfeffer has a GREAT book on this "Power: Why Some Have it and Other's Don't" a huge part of getting to positions of power is socialization issues and interpersonal dynamics.

  • He's a little negative but a lot of what he says is true. The "life is not fair" part is the most true. The biggest lesson to learn if you are going for a 9-5 job is that your "soft skills" are the most important thing to cultivate. How you relate to people, how you communicate, how you carry yourself. Watch the popular kids and mirror how they carry themselves and you will win at working a 9-5. If you have tons of passion, work ethic, and drive, start your own business!!

  • School? The sad part we are taught and drilled with so many areas in school but we may only use three percent what we have learned depending what area we go after in life. Bill gates is very successful so he did something right even its luck, right place at the right time, or knows what works. Also, i do believe most people from this generation let me repeat most not all are clueless in values of life.

  • #11 is hecka true

  • school prepares you to be an employee.....work 40+ years never retire....die..vicious cycle. Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard to start a business.

When you think about it how many old teachers have you had???

  • <3

  • yeah no kidding, hate to break it to the folks but like 88% of 2-4 year college grads don't even make 60,000 right outta college. The same 88% tend to be the ones that complain about parents generation and "vow" to make the rain forests safer HA!HA!HA! Interesting. When bill was in harvard, it mattered. Today's college is the equivalent of 1985's high school. Overrated and almost completely worthless.

  • @drewchristianhansen If you want a good job and to make 60k right out of school, go to a tech school(computers mechanic, electronics etc.). College could never compete since employers want people who have a skills that will make a positive difference immediately. College is only good as a pre-requisite for becoming a doctor or lawyer or possibly engineer. Business school is toltally worthless!!!! An MBA is the single worst thing to waste your money on because it's worthless to employers.

  • The child in us,,, Love this song! Ive been listening to it a lot lately.

  • No one cares about your self-esteem?! That I have to admit is wrong.

  • Oh and I alone could end ALL the worlds energy problems in one fell swoop. But your stupid sys will not hear it.

  • @MrSokitumi0007 Just more proof they dont want to fix it )o,,,

  • I was extra nice to nerds in school. When 5 jocks were spitting and kicking and beating up the plad wearing nerds in my school i whooped all of them for it and got kicked out of catholic school for basically doin what my heart and soul which is connected to god told me needed to be done since the teachers didnt care to stop it. Guess that school didnt like ALL their star jocks got whooped by one kid )o,,,Cubscout muahahahhaa

  • Funny I was thrown out on the streets by my mom at 12yrs old so she is a little to blame but hey Ive done better all my kids have the same parents and my marrage will last (goin on 13yrs now =P ) haha! Mom = 3 kids raised over the span of 3 fathers and she says people without college are losers. Hmm well I say NOT! Losers are the ones who put money over human life )o,,, Thanks Mom

  • flipping burgers aint beneath ur dignity..he's right :)

unless we get slapped in d face with experience, we dont learn and burger customers r d best slappers;they cm frm all strata of d society :P

  • rule 12: take my vaccinations muahahahahaha

  • This list has nothing to do with Bill Gates, it was created by Charles J Sykes a senior research fellow at the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute. The Wisconsin Policy Research Institute is a conservative think tank advocating free market economics in the state of Wisconsin.

  • @commandersprocket Ha free market ie. free to buy chinese goods and sink in the Wal-Mart titanic of a slave driven monopoly on your consumerism )o,,, The only way to compete with a company that takes advantage of slavory is to make your own slaves. Welcome to the Wal-Mart False flag masonic oil nazi New World Order )o,,,

  • Rule 11 ROCKs

  • whts the song name tell pls nice song

  • snopes.com/politics/soapbox/schoolrules.asp

    julie10 is full of shit

  • @farneyblakeley so is snopes LOL

  • Rule 10 reminded me of f.r.i.e.n.d.s , haha

  • Rule 1 Life is not fair – get used to it! Rule 2 The world doesn’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. Rule 3 You will not make 60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both. Rule 4 If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
  • Wow you have alot of money Bill Gates.

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting

  • IM ALWAYS NICE TO NERDS!! YES!! =)

  • anyone plz tell me the link of background music.

  • @nicedevil49 Download Mozilla Firefox, then download Mozilla video downloader, the download AoA audio extractor/convertor- use the downloader to get any video from youtube, then use AoA to extract the Mp3 from the Mp4 video. There will appear a three colored circles on the top left of the video, click it and the video will download. O yeah, don't forget to install the programs.

  • @nicedevil49

Its by Enigma: The Child in Us

  • Rule 12 disreguard these 11 rules, this is your life, you are your own master, work for yourself.

  • i saw this as a poster in my school and i was disgusted

  • This is some of the most dehumanizing speech I have ever seen.

  • Wow, when I read these I shook my head and thought 'This man knows how to put words together and make them sound like the end of the world' x'D

Perhaps it's just me reacting to the negativity behind his quotes/rules. I mean, the world is what you make it to, :D

  • Since the day that my mind is capable of using the work of bill gates, i started idolizing him.

One day, i will do something morethan you did, even not becoming as rich as you do, i will help everyone. :D

  • Very hepfull advices for preparin ous to success. Thanks Bill Gates.

  • I really like this song more than the 11 rules!

  • Comment removed

  • love number 7 and 8.

  • What is the name of the song playing in the background?

  • @poceana it's a forgotten Sanskrit song from Enigma .. The Child in us..

  • Bill gates tried to get rid of malaria and providing potable water in the 3rd world, donated money of better schooling and educational system in america. He also donated alot of money for charity and even promised to give 90% of his wealth... while steve jobs gets revered too much for creating overprized toys and by being dead

  • last rule was lol

  • Fuck, I have to do an assessment on one of these rules. Please delete the video l0l

  • Rule 12 Don't put terrible music like this

  • The last one is so true! You hear that you people who throw stuff at me and call me a geek??? You might end up working for me! Show some respect to people who are smarter than you!

  • @Wlcom2mylife I have a feeling you may have lost sense of what's important, what you've said is just what those jocks think; with that mentality, if you had employees - I doubt quite seriously that it'd be an efficient employer/employee relationship, regardless of how you get along with them. It's a case of elitism....And just because someone is intelligent doesn't make them a geek/nerd, there are smart folk with a good friend base, it's called cultivating social skills and a network of friends.

  • Regardless of where ever they are taken from, if those were spoken by Bill Gates or someone else...what it matters is that those quotes are really helpful...so, instead of making it an issue why can't we concentrate on implementing those things in our life.I only try to see the good..

  • @lulle10 Well said! Negativity and complaining gets us nowhere. These principles are equally applicable no matter who said them =D

  • @lulle10 So do I but Bill and Malinda Gates are blocking my view =P

  • send us the link to the real speech please in order to double check these quotes. Something does not makes sense.

  • R.I.P. Bill Gates

You inspired so many people. We will all miss your personality and drive that created Microsoft. My condolences goes to your loved ones.

REST IN PEACE : BILL GATES

  • @russiantrams

this comment i like the most

    Steve Jobs died, not Gates

  • @russiantrams BILL GATES IS ALIVE YOU DUMB FUCK

  • @andresariegool he's joking, you idiot. he's making fun of the fact that these rules in fact did not come from bill gates. he has nothing to do with them.

  • @brianphuffman

So he didn't make a speech about these rules?

  • @microsf121 nope. google it.

  • @brianphuffman

I don't think he wrote the rules but I think he may have still spoken them.

  • @russiantrams

    is`n he still allive?

  • @russiantrams

    R.I.P. russiantrams

You trolled so many people. We will all miss your personality and drive that created Nothig(TM)(c). My condolences goes to your loved ones.

    REST IN PEASE : russiantrams

    Bill Gates for president !

  • @russiantrams

    Dude, he's not dead.

  • @microsf121 the guy got me cofused, even had to check wikipedia just to make sure he wasn't dead.

  • @microsf121 no shit. he's making fun of the fact that this video is fake. bill gates didn't make this speech.

  • @russiantrams

    Buddy, Bill Gates is alive.

  • @VETERANOUTLAW In all of us

  • @russiantrams wtf ...Bill Gates is ALIVE ........... u mistaken Steve Jobs ?

  • i can feel his pain from his rule11 :D

  • It seems, however, that if you observe Bill Gates and listen to Bill Gates, and read what Bill Gates writes, Bill Gates does not believe these rules apply to him.

  • Comment removed

  • I respect Bill Gates & Melinda Gates for all of their charity work around the world...Did Steve Jobs do any charity work?? I don't know.

  • @AbbyNormal777 Steve Jobs just don't talk about it. His private life was really private, difficult to have any picture of his house or family. I didn't know what are the 11 sentences of Steve, but, if you look at the interview with steve and Bill, the part 11, each one answer to a public question, and they both agree : expect to fight hard, take the best team with you, and never give up !!!

That's 3 rules only, but they say them for real...

  • I really hope that these aren't really Bill Gate quotes because this speech should be directed towards someone's teenager not a high school.

  • I admire genius people 'cause i know someday i will be like that. just know what you really want, grab it and do your best in everyway. determination and hardwork is the key of success.

  • quotes from a rich guy born rich... i really don't care.

  • i dont care how much money he has i will still kick his nerd ass

  • why sound like indian music1??

  • @theritarock01 It is Indian Music

  • what is the name of this song and who are the artists?

  • These are not from bill gates..... Someone else trying to get you to listen to their bull shit, cuz they didn't get what they wanted in life.

  • I don't think Bill Gates would have made these quotes. There is some truth to them, but they are worded with incredibly anger and wrath towards the young generation. I just don't think the richest guy in the world would have that much anger.
