About a year ago I reverted, Alhamdulillah. Just prior to that I the idea of hijab terrified me, but then I came across this video on a sister's blog. After seeing Jan's struggle I realized it doesn't have to be scary, or at least not as scary as it was in my head. :) After seeing this my anxiety about it went away and I started wearing the hijab about a week later. Thank you for posting her story. I was wondering if there's other parts of the video?
@sardanapolis Our natural state is to be in submission to Allah (SWT). We are all born this way. In a way everyone is part Muslim because our bodies act in accordance to Allah's (SWT) will. People shouldn't be so cruel to each other. I am a Christian by faith, and even I cover my hair sometimes, because it states it in the Bible as well. There is nothing wrong with a woman choosing to show obedience to God by following his word and covering up. People are too quick to judge because they only want to look at women as objects of lust. i'm a middle aged christian man in the US and have to say that watching this video is absolutely touching. I imagine her faith is more than fashion and that shines through in a few places and it's those places that make me smile and get curious. i was in Bahrain last week-- my first time in a Muslim country and heard a public call to prayer. I say honestly that it gave me goosebumps and made me smile. There is something there. I taped the call in my blackberry and listen :)

In Afghanistan andIran and most likely Pakistan/India "jaan" means "dear", so in the books it meant, Sister dear or dear sister. In this situation it just refers to her name "Jan" but mustlims call one another sister or brother like nuns do, so it's sister this and brother that...:) Afghans and Iranians are crazy with the word "Jaan"...I think I hear it a million times a day...:)

People shouldn't be so cruel to each other. I am a Christian by faith, and even I cover my hair sometimes, because it states it in the Bible as well. There is nothing wrong with a woman choosing to show obedience to God by following his word and covering up. People are too quick to judge because they only want to look at women as objects of lust. I imagine her faith is more than fashion and that shines through in a few places and it's those places that make me smile and get curious. i was in Bahrain last week-- my first time in a Muslim country and heard a public call to prayer. I say honestly that it gave me goosebumps and made me smile. There is something there. I taped the call in my blackberry and listen :)

In Afghanistan andIran and most likely Pakistan/India "jaan" means "dear", so in the books it meant, Sister dear or dear sister. In this situation it just refers to her name "Jan" but mustlims call one another sister or brother like nuns do, so it's sister this and brother that...:) Afghans and Iranians are crazy with the word "Jaan"...I think I hear it a million times a day...:)

My analogy is simple what would you do if u hav a bar of gold given to you? are you going to expose it to unknown people in public stare it, OR u keep it safely in safety box? The answer is simple rite.
