  • Yes, the back was was cut. It is a Rutschblock variation cut in a trapezoid shape with the back at 190cm and the front at 210cm and around 150cm width. This was on a SE aspect, 32 degree slope at around 8400 ft. Total snow depth was 1 meter. We had a 25 cm M/F crust with 20-25 cm of recent snow on top with near surface facets, wind packed layer, rime crust, more facets, and another wind packed layer on top. CT and ECT also failed on the same layer - rime crust - without propagation.

  • was the back wall cut?
