I'm a huge SP fan and there are similarities, but yes, who gives a SHIT?? People are using influencing and copying and they both are extremes in opposite directions. People say they copied when they don't like the band and say influenced by when they do like the band. just shut up and enjoy the music or listen to music you do enjoy. =D

BUT the Smashing Pumpkins were influenced by MBV as well. Like how Siamese Dream was influenced by MBV and how Silversun Pickups were influenced by both bands. You people should be thankful, Silversun Pickups are the ONLY band today that has the shoe-gaze sound

Carnavas is a great album.

Lazy Eye is definitely a hit. I love playing it in Rock Band. I primarily play Bass, but the Guitar chart is awesome!

I still can't find an appreciable perspective on "Melatonin" though. Could change, who knows? I'm a bit "random" musically, so I'll likely be listening to prog, metal, industrial, or indie as it suits my mood.

As someone who recently found himself alternating through Perfect Circle, Dream Theater, Interpol, The Bravery, Alice in Chains, and Sufjan Stevens, I don't assume myself to be "right," just someone who loves music.

Yeah I know what you are saying. i def prefer the older sp sound they had siamese era. i saw them live recently and they seem to be moving more towards a psychadelic sound opposed to their old fuzzy guitar type sound. These guys are brilliant. And although a few songs on Carnavas are downright terrible (trying too hard to force other instruments/vocals around other bandmates' efforts, maybe?). Most are great though. Hope to see atleast a few more records out of them cause they nailed something solid and memorable on their last effort.

Yeah, I own both of the two albums in question. Maybe it was just the part of the pumpkins sound that they altered/abandoned that attracted me to them in the first place (admittedly I can't find the words to explain what exactly).

As for Carnavas, you're probably right. Some songs have to grow on me first, and having listened to it a few more times since my last post, I've come to appreciate a few more tracks that I previously didn't care for (3 seed, for instance).

Its not like they had some one hit wonder and popped up for a second, they are on an indie label and happened to get noticed with Carnavas. They are staying on their label and making another album right now, and staying on their label despite Capitol and whatever else big labels trying to sign them.

So with so signs of a sell out one hit wonder band, I would definately say they will stay great whether their new songs are played on the radio or not.

Unfortunately, I think these guys (and girl) will be gone soon, as is typical with most buzz bands. "Lazy Eye" will be played to death on the radio, and then they will be gone.

This is too bad because I kinda like them.

But, a short scroll through the comments on this video will give good indication as to who their audience is, little girls who think "Brian is sexy". Unfortunately, little girls change their minds about who is "sexy" far too frequently.

Dont get me wrong i love them but their sound is far from unique. Its straight up formula indie rock. If someone asked me what indie sounds like i would give them this record. But its straight forward approach to the sound is why it works.
