The boa has more squeezing and starts from your back in lockdown keeping super tight the whole time. The half and half is the sweep when you are in the dog fight and blast into your partner. It is the starting positions that make one of the major differences.
I used both the Boa and the half suplex about ten times last week in live rolling in class... it's damn near unstoppable... The half suplex gets them every time if you COMMIT and roll like a mofo..... crazy tech right there...
Does it help to keep your left hooked onto his right as you bridge back for the sweep? It looks like you hook it on one of the demos, but the last one you let it go and I just want to know if it assists?
The only main difference is that the BOA is done right from the whip up with hands around the the waist whereas the half and half you get up to the dog fight right away and then clasp your hands together to get the sweep
I appreciate these videos cause l take these classes and learn things like these it gives me a chance to memorize these things so l can look better in class, so thanx Eddie Bravo and Submissions101
So, in my academy always use 1 underhook but if use double I won"t be choke,.On Tuesday I"ll use this. Great video. By the way, BOA is snake here in SouthAmerica.
We were given permission from 10th Planet Watch to host this video. I assume you are talking about the 'ad' at the front and back? This is reeealll nice. I find myself in this position all the time. I usually win the dogfight and sort of do a takedown like in the beginning of the video, but that second option is so simple it's genuis. Thanks guys!
My question is, why does Eddie reach around the waist when he can reach around the leg he has lockdown on? I've tried both methods and if he reached around the leg instead of the waist, it is much harder for the guy to whizzer you.
Something I am failing to fully understand is when Eddie does his foot work, what is stopping the guy on top from passing his guard by trying to pull his leg out for, if I recall this right, side mount. The tight hold around the waste doesn't prevent the opponent from pulling his leg out when you seem to let go of the leg hooks keeping him in half guard.
Let's face it, Eddie is genius. This move does address the counters to half that he NAMED. But there is always a counter to EVERY situation in Jiu Jitsu. Before/during the whip-up the top player can foot wedge to open the half and thus defeat the 1/2 (See .36-.50) After that the top player has to defeat the body wrap. Top fighter could do a kick over to reverse the half guard. With an underhook on the bootom side (opens up on the kick over) you maintain top position and stop the sit up.
whats the difference between this and the half and half?

It looks like he is pulling/lifting him backward in this one. I think in the half/half he drives his bodyweight to roll the opponent sideways.

In this version yes- as Eddie is doing a half plex to bring him over.

I'd guess its named after the Boa Constrictor, coz of the way the wrap themselves around their prey.
