dire straits es severo guitarista para mi es el rock mas elegante que he escuchado im glad to hear you mi friend mark konfler great music you play you got a lot of class thanks a lot
i'm american. but love so many of the european/english especially, artist. this is sublime. just superb. few musicians and bands, ever reach this level of unity and ensemble. wow.
Am I tone deaf. How come only 170K hits on this classic. Those stumped up media talentless souls in this current era should have a listen to someone/group with musical ability and talent
try and get someone to cover this, if they practiced for a 100 years they never reach this level of perfection, Listen to the album version, how did they expand the original into this, only a music genius could do it. My bet the boy Knopfler and Guy Fletcher or Alan Clarke can up with this gem. Maybe be not Guy Fetcher I don't think he was in the Band in '83
There is no better exponent of the strat, gibson, taylor, pensur or any other guitar for that matter. Check out the earlier stuff from the late 70's. Rockpalast in Germany. pure magic
my favourite song, I was 15 when I first heard this version, I'm 38 now and I have to listen to this album once in the week, at least! I also think he's one of the best guitar player in the world, to bad he'd never had the succes Jimi Hendrixs had, he's even beter, if not better?
i love the feel of this and some of the tracks on communique. you can tell they were influenced somewhat by their time recording it in the Bahamas. Ok, they might not have come back like Paul Simon, but i suspect some of the feel of the album had to do with the location.
So much light and shade on one song, MK plays more notes on this song and Suntans of swing than most artists get on 5 albums. RIP Gaga and Bieber you'll never know what real music is
Everyone keeps talking about him as a guitarist.....(he is the best).........but vocals are equally insane....he is very rarely credited for that..his coarse voice suits the raw power of his glamour free down to earth lyrics.....sharing stories/ideas we can relate to......THANK YOU Mark you've always been the best for me
I have this cut from the Alchemy Tour live - Really one of the finest live version recordings of this band - the groove is pure drive. The lyrics, an enigma, remind of A Clockwork Orange - some strange brew of inner violence and pure poetry. The guitarist as a gunslinger? Perhaps..., Mark surely qualifies.
Ah... I agree 100%! If only MK was old enough to do this when Sergio Leone came to America and directed "Once upon a time in the West" (the movie), or "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", etc.....But I think that at that time, MK did have an "Alter Ego" called Enio Morricone! The Alter Ego did like more the classic style of music, whereas this one (a.k.a. MK), likes more Rock'n'Roll!
Long live Rock'n'Roll!
Down with the disgusting monkey noises of what today is called music!
I love Dire Straits. They were so sucessful here in Australia. They still have the record number of consecutive sold out shows in Sydney Entertainment Centre still today. Even Mark himself did special things when he came here to play. Like the extended version of So far away in the Brothers in arms tour.
One of the best... lot of underated finger pickers... Lindsey Buckingham for example... dont know why they arent more highly rated... Knopfler is the exception and rated fairly high 27th in the Rolling Stone Best of.....

@buddyrichjunier LOL@YOU haters gonna hate... It's amazing that in this day and age there are still small-minded people like you who care more about heritage than talent.
I remember this : I was 18, had my degree and wanted to finally see the world and took off . I worked in the grapevines of France ,
Planting salads with turks in some French farm . I learned there what it means to be stolen the money and by just the force of my voice make the thief pay me back. Remember the manager watching us ,"you did the right thing" but I would have hit him. Well I never do that.
It "flattened my emotions into a horizontal line" and make me work hard.
