  • And wouldn't you know it, Netshitz doesnt instantly stream Sharky's Machine. Douche bags.

  • My all time favorite Burt movie. Great post. My older brother who's 60 now, had this album. Loved to pirate it back to my room.

  • fantastic ;)

  • Real Music Peeps !!! Real Music .... When i hear this Song it takes me back to when i was hangn out in the streets, seening alot of things going on, till today i thank my highest power for my life to experience the music back in those days...thank u for posting this...

  • Back in the 60s thats all I did out in the streets..Well I think I can dream Now!!..*

  • It's been 33 years past since I fell in love with the tune of bass at 5:35!!

  • Daddy used to play this ALL the time. I miss him and came here to hear this and be reminded of him.

  • When you've lived what you sing, there is always an authenticity in your rendition of a song- you have to have been there in order to convey that special feeling. It is the difference between the Randy Crawford and the Patti Austin versions.

  • 何十年も聴いてます!

    ランディの声最高!

    いまも、ソウルバーでリクエストしてます。

    お皿置いてあるお店が少ないっす><

  • 17yrs of my life in one song.

This one song says it all.

  • Night time cruise through the city in my car, and this one playing on the stereo!

  • Every time someone plays this tune, Lady Gaga should SELF-IGNITE

    !

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE

  • Sorry to disappoint you, inconvenientruth1, but these "sounds" were played on real instruments by real musicians.

  • @CAGED1702 You speak the truth, brother!

  • @CAGED1702 you betta say that! It's so sad how far the industry has allowed "performers" to produce music. It's not bad enough that originality is passe (everyone's sampling, integrating & often butchering REAL music from the classics), but computers have taken the place of true vocal talent and instrumentation! Oh well, Thank God we can still enjoy the REAL thing... and those of us who know the difference really appreciate it.

  • @dmnds979 Thanks, mate, I couldn't have formulated it better - but I think there are good young musicians out there who try to continue to preserve this legacy...bit it's a hard struggle..!

  • As teenagers we all dabble in what's in the streets. There's a fine line between having fun and getting caught up in the street life. Those who get caught up are a sad sight to see. I thank God, Randy and the Crusaders for creating this project. They influenced my life at a very crucial time. All of my role models were caught up in the streets. This song taught me not to get caught up and essentially saved my life. Today I am and have always been drug free and never sold my body for money.

  • @yellopinki Thanks for sharing!Giving credit where it's due allows the "magic" of music to flow freely.I felt very similar to you as a teen, a few years ago..dabbling in street life as an adult and believe you me, it's a very tempting lifestyle..party scenes, girls, guys, whatever one could ask can be found on the streets. There's a lot to possibly get caught in,and it sneaks up on you. This song gave me my up-bringing and teachings to think about.Rock on Randy!Awesome woman, great song

  • @yellopinki impying drugs are bad on their own

    implying all drugs are bad

implying selling your body can only be done in a desperate situation and not because you really like it as a job

  • The chords at the very end are batshit crazy

  • My clock wake me this morning with this, terrific but only it was soooo loud :) was directly awake lol

  • beautiful synth sounds

  • I had this album version on 12"......best ever

  • PERFECTA MUSICA !!!!!

  • 4 dislikes???? what are you 4 listening too? must be 4 bieber fans

  • how brilliant?!!!?

  • Thank you, Thank you, you are the best,,,, - this tune, is my life....... thank you, l only have this on old tape....

  • My anthem for the carefree times though the admonishment; "You'd better not grow old" looms larger as time passes. I love this song through my tears.

  • The Melody was awesome; but the WORDS...Are Painfully real. There is beauty in the Ugliest of realities! How Ironic are these lyrics? WOW!

  • Reminds me of boiled sweets and sitting in the back of my parents car with my brother and sister on summer holiday

  • tottaly awesome!!

  • this song takes you there...the clubs, the bars, the scene..showtime!!

  • Sharky's Machine....

  • Randy & Company - I LOVE YOU FOR THIS ONE!

  • This is my Favorite song of all time!

  • 30 years later still one of the best songs ever and if you were lucky, enough to grow up in NYC you heard this song everywhere Summer 1979

  • @gepayton1 I agree....grew up in LA. This one kind of sneaked up as a big summer hit. great mood song at the time.

  • Reminds me of better times and Dennis.

  • Every time I hear this tune, I think of New York City in autumn or winter. I love NY and this song. It's interesting to think these chaps are from Texas and not NYC because this song is essential NYC when you listen to it - that's why I love it.

  • Very special, great performance, soundtrack to my teenage years

  • Incredible! At 8:50 until the end, they really take it to another place. In the zone! Randy is legendary...

  • I seem to remember this song being played as part of a sound track from a movie with Bert Reynolds as the lead character. Am I correct about this? Anyone else remember this? It was a very long time ago.

  • @sputnik9453 ...this was used as the opening music in 'Sharky's Machine' from 1981, which not only starred Reynolds, but was also directed by him. I believe the soundtrack also included Sarah Vaughn's 'Funny Valentine'. Critics consider it Reynold's best work....hard to fail with a soundtrack as good as this.

  • Words with such truth are rarely ever spoken such as the lyrics from this song. Only those who have lived days and nights as those depicted within this masterpiece can understand the magic, the turmoil, and the glory of the decay lived one hustle at a time. I was there... once... many years ago, but no longer, and missing every day when I was.

  • @dunecigar Very well stated my friend, I too have lived that life.................

  • iTunes(UK) are charging £7.99 just to get this One track on the album. You cannot purchase this song on it's own. Greedy bastards! The industry is worried about illegal downloads. Well, make them available at reasonable cost and we'll buy. Thank goodness we have youTube and the good people who upload these great tunes for us to listen to and enjoy again. Thanks.

  • This was my anthem back in the day!!!

  • Joe Sample is workn' that fender rhodes. Dam that organ sounds good!

  • Co-sign zettadom.

  • Timesless classic ...

  • How the hell does this song not make all time greatest song lists, it doesn't crack Rolling Stones top 500. This is better than most of the songs on that list. Jazzy and funky, great lyric and melody, virtuoso musicians, fantastic lead vocalist. Timeless.

  • @zettadom you mean somebody gotta tell you?

  • the original vinyl released in 1979 is longer than this.. its the whole LP vinyl the whole side A

  • From one of my dad's favorite movies: "Sharkey's Machine". Burt Reynolds, Bernie Casey, Henry Silva, Rachel Ward, Victorrio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles Durning and Earl Holliman. The only stars missing were James Gardner, Angie Dickinson and Paul Winfield.

  • love this song

  • My dad has this album. For some odd reason, I'll never forget that album cover.

  • totally agree with Rebeccajane211!

  • I saw The Crusaders with Randy Crawford at Stanford University back in '79 or '80, and they were amazing. "Street Life" brought the packed house to its feet. I believe they also had Airto Moreira with them that night. The true test of any group is how they sound in person versus what they do in a recording studio, but hey were even better in person than their recordings.

  • great version!

  • THIS WAS MY THEME SONG FOR MY LIFE...THATS EXACTLY HOW I WAS...I AM NOW GOIN ON 10YRS CLEAN AND SOBER...THANK GOD FOR TODAY!!!

  • @thesonyakyleshow 10 years Clean!!! wonderful!!! Good for you!!!!

  • The opening song to Sharky's Machine! A good movie needs a good soundtrack, and this song put me in the mood. Fantastic song!

  • This always reminds me of a cold night wandering through New York City....funny since these fellas are from Houston. I always think of a cold December night chilling in Manhattan

  • I bought this my senior year of high school. Sharky's Machine, man...what a movie...

  • Thank you YOUTARD for posting this beautiful classic, it has a nice vibrant kick to it.

  • Keyboard solo is awesome too and vocals are soulful.

  • Love this Crusaders jam with Randy Crawford...love the sax solo.

  • Wow! I thought Josie James Did the vocals?

  • Awesome! This, along with "So Far Away" are my favorite two from The Crusaders. This is such a wonderfully haunting song, epecially the last part. And I agree: Randy's voice is perfect for this song. I can't see anyone else, save, maybe Aretha (back in the day) doing this song.

And thanks for the entire, extended album version!!!

  • One of my favourite versions this. I remember listening to this when in college and loved it then and love it even more now. Many of the new artists can learn something from these artists.

    Thanks for this upload.

  • I am 36 years young (aaaaarrgh!!!), and this song (esp this version) is my favourite song ever. Have grown up listening to it, and have loved it since I was about 12. x

  • This is music, "top de la crème". One of my favorites from 79, a year with so much good music. Part 08:52-11:14 is magic. Thanks to you Randy and The Crusaders.

  • a lot of credit goes to joe sample on this one...without joe, the crusaders would not have been the crusaders

  • perfect just perfect

  • Thanks so much for posting this extended version! I bought the 45 at age 14 and wore it out. A true classic!!!

  • A better combination of voice, music and lyrics is very hard to find nowadays. ten stars

  • I just love this song :)

  • Sheer perfection from start to finish - absolutely love it.

  • THIS IS REAL MUSIC AND MUSICIANSHIP! RANDY CRAWFORD SINGS THE SHIT OUTTA THIS. DENIECE WILLIAMS IS ABOUT THE ONLY OTHER VOCALIST THAT COULD'VE DONE THIS. THE CRUSADERS IS MY ALL-TIME FAV JAZZ GROUP AND ALL I CAN SAY TO THEM IS THANK YOU!!

  • How the CHRIST can there be ANY dislikes for this song? Morons.

  • The Real version of "Street Life"-unedited... I hate when the other versions cut out the beginning.....leave it the way they wrote and recorded it!

To the kid who listens to this-you're alot smarter than your friends. You know good music when you hear it...It's probably much better than what your friends are listening to.

Still one of my all time favorite songs....30 years later.....where does the time go?

  • The Crusaders & Ms Randy - this is their song- can't not be duplicate

  • every so often, a song comes along that stays with you for years...this one is it for me...i am crazy about this ...it's not just a song...it's an experience that remains timely and probably always will...classic to life in every sense of the word....this generation doesn't have a clue

  • my friends think its weird i listen to this type of music, cuz im only 13 but i reli dont care cuz this is wat i cal music!

  • @kiddo097 Sweetie, if you’re listening to this type of music at 13 years of age I can guarantee that you are going to do great things in your life because you know what truly good music is!! Keep listening and growing and if you want to hear another great cut find the Jones Girls "Nights over Egypt" I think you will like that cut as well. Peace and blessings!!

  • @zknow13 Aw, thank you. :)

  • Gangsta shit rite here

  • The sax solo is perfect! no other way of describing it.

  • Randy is the truth.

  • fantastic

  • Classic... period.

  • Brillante!!!

  • ah fuck yeah......

  • Randy Crawford's voice is so suited to this song. Wow, what a song indeed. Brilliant!

  • @wisenatts She has one of the most magnificent voices ever in popular music! So expressive!!!

  • C'est MAGNIFIQUE !!!!

  • YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THE GOOD OLD DAYS ON HOLLYWOOD BLVD.WHAT A GOOD SONG.

  • @mrronman2015 couldn't of said it better.....I'm a young gyal, but when hearing this song, it takes me back to a different time...as if I'm living in it...walking down hollywood blvd--exactly!

  • This is the greatest version of Street Life!

  • @Rebeccajane211 i would tend to agree, the ballad into then it cooks, strong re-mix, they brought up the instruments and it has punch.
