ahaa nice bee keeping masks. the whole point of sparring is get to know what FIGHTING is really like. Shit you might as well put on a bomb squad suit if you dont wanna get hurt.
@XteampunishmentX you obviously spend too much time on here and have never participated in any form of martial art. Headgear is for an inexperienced fighter to take the hits, and yes you still feel them but theres no point if you get KOed after only 10 seconds.. Next time think before you speak.. And give it a go its actually fun.
@themothinthehat I sort of agree with the other guy. We use 12oz gloves, cups, mouthguards and shinguards. That's all the protection we have. There's the odd blood nose but believe it or not people rarely get hurt because we're skilled at what we do and it hardens us physically. It teaches to always guard up and check kicks properly. My style is Muay Thai in our gym we have pro fighters as well as beginners. The fighters must train the way they present in the ring otherwise they'll get hurt.
@themothinthehat lol ya know i guess muay thai, bjj and greco roman arent martial arts, and putting 10 of my 17 years on this earth training it must have been a huge waste of time.. ya dumb fuck, id like to give u a go see how long u last.
Nice video. The novice seems to be doing good for his first fight. Who cares what type of zen do kai or martial art this is. If it delivers strikes to an attacker and the defender's able to block a few stikes - that's what I call 'Self defence'.
@Cutdadek: Please read what EvilhomerNZ wrote above. This is NOT the Aussie Zen Do Kai. This is Japanese Zendokai, an off-shot of Daido Juku, which, in turn, is a Kyokushin's off-shot.
If this isn't Aussie ZDK why are they allowing head strikes with fists? The Japanese form is only body shots with the fists, legs however can strike the head.
So are you saying he would approve of a inexperienced student getting a kicking from a senior in his first sparring session?,are you quite sure of that?.
The inexperienced student is actually tagging the more experienced student on many occasions...where's the respect that should be shown to higher ranks? If I was teaching a student and they were hitting me intentionally then I would put them in their place...and belive me so would Bob Jones.
The higher grade to his credit is encouraging the guy to get involved both verbally and by fighting at his level it wouldn't be much of a sparing session if it was one way traffic just a beat down on a low grade by a higher which would be demeaning for both of them, perhaps thats the way you and Bob Jones(does he know you are speaking for him?)react when you feel slighted by a lower grade having the temerity to hit you but happily others can engage in a sparing session in the right spirit .
I don't know for sure, but it states as much in the information given for this clip by who ever posted it and i have as yet no reason to disbelieve them .
Zen Do Kai is freestyle martial arts - not full contact. The Zen Do Kai i did anyway. There must be many different forms of this because we would have never worn head gear. New Zealand BJC Zen Do Kai is a lot different.
Zendokai (as above) = a japanese full contact karate system largely based around kyokushinkai and enshin karate. The main thing the separate's it in competition from kyokushin is that you are allowed head shots (hence head gear).
Why demean my dojo? We wore those white gi, as did all other dojos in Nagano, with those kanji. We sparred other belt levels, no problem. We did and undid our belts every few minutes...we were sparring, they came undone. However you do zendokai, wherever you do zendokai, is great and fine, but that's how they/we did it there. Don't knock it if you don't know what you are talking about. This is authentic: it is in Japan. I know, I was there.
This is real zendokai, taught to us by sempai (the Nagano prefecture brown belt champion) and sensai (a who knows what kind of black belt guy-communication was hard because I don't know much Japanese). But I assure you it is real; I was there.
That dojo and the dojos we competed against in tournaments all had the same white gi with the same Japanese characters. In training, we all sparred different level partners. I sparred black, brown, green, yellow and blue belts. And as for belt tying, we had been training and sparring for two hours, and our belts were off and on so much that it didn't matter any more.
This is not Zen Do Zai. I trained for 10years. 4th Dan and above wear white, but you can see one of these guys is a white belt. Also ZDK does not have Japanese symbols on gai.
I don't understand why you all seem so intent on demeaning the dojo in which I studied. The white belt is me, I was new to zendokai. This takes place in (as posted below) Kami-Suwa, a small city in Nagano Japan, where I lived for a year. Look it up (Lake Suwa).
different dojos have their choice about the colour of the gi. but the magority of karatekas have white uniforms. what i was taught was that karate=white taekwon do=black and judo=blue. but thats just normally what it is. osu
This so called higher belt can't even tie his belt straight and shouldn't be sparring a white belt above his level but at his level or just a little higher. If I was an instructor there I would be on those mats teaching him that lesson!
OK, a couple of years later, I have to respond to all the haters. This is real Zen Do Kai. The Zen Do Kai you studied (which seems to have been substantially sifferent) is also real. Many paths. Many destinations. Head shots were not only allowed, but strongly encouraged.

Zendokai is an of shoot of Daido-juku and follows similar set of 'kudo' rules which includes head strikes .

lol exactly..mma.

Zendokai allows head strikes and MMA ruling i believe long story short its better than kyokushin more realistic. not that body shot crap.

pathetic....the zdk i know is fierce and powerful even when sparring...this would piss bob jones off

Zen Do Kai = Australian based mixed martial art loosly based around shotokan and thai kickboxing founded by Bob Jones way back.
The former uses the white gi's etc as per video the later uses black/blue gi's and has a myriad of options after the lower ranks to indiciate rank.
Hope this helps.
