People, stop whining, for crying out loud! If you don't like the series, then do yourselves and those of us who like the series a favor and leave, along with your religious rants.
I didn't like this analogy due to it was really incorrect! The Odyssey starts out the Odysseus is stuck on Calypso's Island and can't get off. It says nothing about the trojan war until about CH 5. The first 5 is about how Athena convinces Zeus to allow Odysseus to leave Calypso's Island and they sent hermes to tell her to let him leave meanwhile Athena goes to Ithica to tell Telemochos to prepare for Odysseus' return that he should go out and search for him. and it doesn't even mention Circe!!
i don't know if anyone realizes this, but the girl they use... helen or whatever... that makes them go into war.. is the girl who plays medusa aswell :)
actually Poseidon was also the patron of troy and the god of horses as well, the Trojan horse was seen by troy as a Greek offering to the sea god for a safe ride home, as a offering to the gods the Trojans wanted to caretaker it and boast it as a victory over Greece.
@GEORGESEVAH actually Nausicaa or ΝΑΥΣΙΚΑΑ in greek was the daughter of Alcinous or ΑΛΚΙΝΟΟΣ in greek, king of the Phaeacians and Arete/ he was the son of Nausithous, and grandson of Posiedon, and Nausicaa became the friend of Odysseus.
I really don't mind the "link to reallity"-parts so much. Sure it takes you away from the story you want to hear.. My problem with this video is the part when they say: "He thought he would be home by a month" - When it is predicted that Odysseus won't be home for 20 years!
This was a complaint of mine throughout this series, but The Odyssey episodes have been far and away the worst. Next time, History Channel producers, spare us the real world connection garbage. We don't care about that shit. Just tell the story.
Well if you think about the connection to reality gives you the inspiration for the story.Look at the Liad and its connection to the existing city of troy, there is some history within these myths. If you think they are trying to prove the stories happened than you miss the point of the series. My fav is the episode on Hades and it's connection to christiantiy
what LateRevolutionis saying is that we do not care about what inspired these stories, sure it is interesting to see what the Greeks inspiration was, but the story themselves are magnificent and awesome. what we want is the story itself, with these stories, you do not want a real life connection or reference you just want the story.
@INTELECT112 Don't you mean Christianity's connection to Hades? Christianity IS newer than Hades you know. Sorry, that's just the "politically correct" version.
This two-part show was one of the rare times when the History Channel dropped the ball for me. The brief passing over of the events in the story, especially not even following up on the Giant Cannibals in the second half where the first show left off, made this suck. The constant need to tell us where they think Homer might have gotten every little idea was unnecessary and boring, and they sacrificed the telling of the tale for this bullshit. The second part was even worse with this shit.
What do you expect it is history channel it is supposed to be educational and thought provoking.I love learning about the inspirations behind the myths of ancient and current religions. History channel made me an atheist and I am grateful for that
absolutely...i dont know what the hell that guys bitching about...if you want just the story go read the book(like you should have done in 5th grade)..or watch the movie(im pretty sure they've made one)

Uh, yeah, notice how it takes an entire episode to cover two to four pages of the Odyssey.
And then another whole episode to do the other several hundred.

Leonidas was not a divinity. Achilles however did become a god after his death. No offense though. The Spartans were supermen.
Just not gods. This is the best Greek myth ever. love Odysseus.
trentstevenson100 4 months ago
they should do one about Achilles and Leonidas

1. Babies with Cyclopia can't kill sailors. Unless they survive to become cannibals.
2. If the cyclops was a volcano, then how did Odysseus pierce his eye?
3. A fossil can't kill sailors.
