im sicking of seeing nothing but religious talk on every MxPx page. How bout the music. These guys have been killing if for well over a decade. They dont preach. they dont involve religion in the music... so why are you? This band was my segway into punk way back when i was a teen and they're still great. Oh and the iron post with lots of thumbs up, here's another thumb, I listened to the lyrics too ;)
I thought there were moments on "Secret Weapon" that would allow MxPx to get back into the spotlight as far a 'punk' was concerned. But it didn't seem to happen. Sucks. The album had a good bit of creativity plus the right amount of production.

I think MxPx lost focus for a while - Before Everything and After and Panic were kind of lost causes - but Secret Weapon redeemed them, in my mind.

absolutely... its sad to see bands that begin with great intentions, like these guys, but begin to lose focus with time... i dont know enough about this band to say that this is what they have done, but i do know of people that have fallen victim to this trap

hey i have a quick question is MxPx Christian? Because i have listened to some their songs like barbie girl and it wasn't what i would call christian but this song you can tell is christian.
They have a record deal with Tooth $ Nail label, so they have to try and make positive message song.. i don't know them personaly, so what they believe i don't know. but their still awesome.
as mxpx has said repeatedly there are two things; christian bands and christians in a band. We are christians in a band. Christian bands are called to speak about god and do alter calls. As christians in a band, we believe in god and are christians but we aren't a christian band.
in short its about what god called them to be. I barely canre remember the thing anymore cause its that old

my issue is this. does it matter if a band sings about god or not? MxPx has always been caught up in this issue cause they don't feel god has called them to preach the gospel through music.
they just live their lives and play as what they feel. i mean most of their early songs were about girlfriends and love. people would be like how can you be christians and sing this. thats why they don't take any title pertaining to that
but people still take it like that. if they just say that they're not really a christian band...just christians, then people will still say 'why would they sing this'. because God has called us to preach His gospel and spread His word and what better way to do that than through music? I don't know, eh I'm just saying, really.
many other ways beside music. you may feel its music. others may feel its something else. There are also people that God calls them to preach through their lives instead of something like music or so forth. I have many friends that won't listen to words of others. They watch the lives of those they know. Sometimes the words aren't whats needed. You will never in my 25 years of life find me preaching the gospel through words, not cause I'm ashamed.
As I've said, God calls us in many ways to preach the gospel. There are many types of people out there and different ways each one's hearts listen. It doesn't have to be just one way or preaching on a pulpit. I mean have you ever had a friend that just goes "wow you're right" about your life and how you live it? They aren't just listening to your words? Cause we call all talk all we want.
I went to one of their shows, never heard them before, i flew out to Philly to see Relient K, and MxPx was there. I wound up loving them to death, better than RK by a long shot. So, now i've seen them at LEAST 5 times, and i recently met them at Bamboozle :)
i remember they first time i heard this band they rocked and the first time i heard secret weapon song and shut it down man i heard it the second day it came out like a couple hours latter it rocked i had to go to church camp so i couldnt listin to it much
For what it's worth, The first verse tro this song "this a public service announcement with guitar" was taken from a song called "Know your Rights" by the Clash.

if you know the history of T&N, then its not all about signing christian bands.

as mxpx has said repeatedly there are two things; christian bands and christians in a band. We are christians in a band. Christian bands are called to speak about god and do alter calls. As christians in a band, we believe in god and are christians but we aren't a christian band.
in short its about what god called them to be. I barely canre remember the thing anymore cause its that old

O_o i'll just put it short. They are christian and believe in god, but they are not a christian band. as they have said, christian bands are the ones that are called to lead people to god through their music. They just believe in god and are christians. They aren't called to do that with their music. As its always been said, god uses us in more ways than one.

my issue is this. does it matter if a band sings about god or not? MxPx has always been caught up in this issue cause they don't feel god has called them to preach the gospel through music.
they just live their lives and play as what they feel. i mean most of their early songs were about girlfriends and love. people would be like how can you be christians and sing this. thats why they don't take any title pertaining to that

but people still take it like that. if they just say that they're not really a christian band...just christians, then people will still say 'why would they sing this'. because God has called us to preach His gospel and spread His word and what better way to do that than through music? I don't know, eh I'm just saying, really.

many other ways beside music. you may feel its music. others may feel its something else. There are also people that God calls them to preach through their lives instead of something like music or so forth. I have many friends that won't listen to words of others. They watch the lives of those they know. Sometimes the words aren't whats needed. You will never in my 25 years of life find me preaching the gospel through words, not cause I'm ashamed.

As I've said, God calls us in many ways to preach the gospel. There are many types of people out there and different ways each one's hearts listen. It doesn't have to be just one way or preaching on a pulpit. I mean have you ever had a friend that just goes "wow you're right" about your life and how you live it? They aren't just listening to your words? Cause we call all talk all we want.

I went to one of their shows, never heard them before, i flew out to Philly to see Relient K, and MxPx was there. I wound up loving them to death, better than RK by a long shot. So, now i've seen them at LEAST 5 times, and i recently met them at Bamboozle :)

i remember they first time i heard this band they rocked and the first time i heard secret weapon song and shut it down man i heard it the second day it came out like a couple hours latter it rocked i had to go to church camp so i couldnt listin to it much
