I'm not trying to criticize here but there's what appears to be an unnecessary second "flip" in that move. Sambo has a similar move but without the extra step.
In the position you see at 10sec, your wrist would role and you would loss the arm. When you have a gi on the sleeve wraps the wrist and gets tighter as it circles. Trying to hold the wrist with your hand alone would be next to impossible.
At 0:09 look at the stress lines in the gi and watch them turn as the gi circles the arm. I can't imagine rotate a shoulder joint or wrist like that and a person not being forced to flip way before the omoplata could happen. If you could hold a wrist that tight I think it would actually look cooler. It isn't until his back is on the match at the end of 0:10 where the arm starts rotating for the omoplata. This is just what it looks like to me.
@ThePainFactoryCom yeh ur probably right tbh, possibly tho if he takes a wrist grip which is already in an unatural position so and it turns into a natural position. If u get me :/ kinda hard to explain. But im not sure never tried this technique, its a 100% or 0% move. But i can definatly see ur point.
Ok... So i came into this video thinking... "Bullshit! You can't do a flying Omoplata without like hurting yourself or your partner"... Then all of sudden simply 24 seconds later.... =O
Beautiful technique but how hig percentage-rate would you give this technique during an actual fight? You don´t give a guy that much space and you definitely don´t give away your arm like that... I would like to se anyone actually pull tis one of during a match... Enough with the critisism, wonderful move btw;-)
@Emiliochile7 Actually this technique is for competitions, BJJ practitioners do not attack in actual fights, they only defend themselves and submit. it's never gona work on the streets
hell yeah man...where i train at the best i've seen is flying armbars and triangles which is cool...but this shit is insane...nice move man great skill
lotta flash but of little practical use against a knowledgeable opponent....there's nothing to stop the opponent from flipping with the technique to relieve the lock...only the truly clueless would leave the arm out there and not tighten up
This is Thomas Zenthner from Sequana Academy performing this move. Thomas is a 20yrs old purple belt and his JJ is sick. I honneslty havent seen anybody else performing it like him.
doesn't it kinda seem like he twists once more than he really has to?.. don't get me wrong, it looks absolutely amazing (and ridiculously difficult to do), but it seems like he doesn't have to roll like that
I watched this video for like 20 times before I could comprihend what the guy did there.. shit now that my arm is ok I should try training again. my soul porpuse will be finishing this move..
Very nice omoplata indeed. It's in my top 3 favorite moves right next to the flying arm bar and the flying squirrel.

or just let go of the wrist control halfway through the second flip and trap the arm in no gi. i have some belly to grab elbows with, though.

@ThePainFactoryCom good point, but isnt it his whole body twisting not just the wrist/sleeve?

Nice f'n move!!!
Can actually see this working in comp as a quick surprise attack...
Not many opponents will be expecting the 2nd gramby roll and tension is on the exposed arm through the entire move.
Will be trying this immediately.
Thanks,
