  • @Hobott i dunno about that title being stupid.

i found this song cause i googled "all you need is hate"

  • my last name is DELGADO

  • @MrCacaton you too?

  • This song would make a great Flaming Lips cover!!!

  • Can't believe I haven't run across this band before. My first taste of The Delgados, but it won't be my last. What a fantastically cool song.

  • Veni Vidi Vici!

  • Good sounding song... but the title is awful

    BEATLES 4EVER!

  • @Hobott I think you should take an irony deficiency test

  • @pbobcat to lazy to look for the post you're responding to, but "you should take a irony deficiency test" is hilarious so I'm pretty sure you won in whatever you were talking about. Probably something to do with "hate is all you need"

  • Ummm... Neato... *quickly changes page*

  • The Delgados are one of my favorite bands

  • Only 125,000 hits. WOW thats sad this song rocks

  • Great band , great song , its about the failed relationship , and about the countriesnwho fake love with charity , and is a ironic tribute to the Beatles. very smart , draws attention, I found them thru Gunslinger Girl , went to Chemikal Underground on youtube , and discovered The Phantom Band , Mogwai , Areogramme(sorry bad spelling ) , Arab Strap, some really good music from a band that would have sold out sports arenas in the late 70s. the price of indi production is mass distribution.

  • @TheHeidiidieh uh , lack of mass distribution , never seen a Chemikal Underground product in Walmart.

  • Personally, prefer the female vocalist.

  • NEAT

  • the delgados nunca pasará de moda, nunca ptm

  • Its a look at what America and most other countries, and people do, run in and pretend to love, but instead, go in with hate, ruin everything and get what they want, "This is how i won the west". By pretending to do things in the name of charity, you can do whatever you want. It has a whole lotta other meanings and i think "hate is all you need is" is definitely sarcasm/ironic.

  • love this song...thanks

  • The idea is: love doesn't exist where there is no hate. The idea of eradicating hate from yourself and of yourself and the world is therefore absurd and can only be a cause of extreme anxiety. This song is enlightened.

  • IMO This song is talking about a failed relationship. And he feeling contempt toward his ex. He is coping with hate, and justifying it is all around him. It is easier to forget about someone this way "hate will help you what you are looking for"

  • This video looks like it costed a buck to make haha, but it's a good song though. not hating guys.

  • Though it may be sarcastic, hate truly is everywhere.

  • I discovered them thru Gunslinger Girl too... I've only heard the "Hate" album but it;s the perfect music for when I'm in a funk and feeling down.

  • An ironic and brutal song. This whole album is a whole level of dark I have not experienced before, because it can be light-hearted about the despair. Both beautiful and really screwed up at the same time.

  • i kinda think they swapped out love for hate.

  • @kaocas well, duh! Did you even listen to the song?

  • they have eerie music but i still like it :)

  • It is by Gunslinger Girl that I discovered this band ... too ^^"

  • 今日も聞きましたこの曲、アルバム

    オーケストラとバンドの見事な融合!

    素晴らしい

  • If you like this one, go find Favours, also by them. Very good song.

  • that was absolutely phenomenal

  • This is ahmm like the counterpart of all you need is love?

  • Great song & very good album

  • This song is so catchy and upbeat, it's weird how a song about hate can make you feel so good! Maybe....maybe hate IS all you need???!!!

  • What's ironic about them splitting is their type of sound is really becoming popular. I wonder if they were ahead of their time? The retro sound they have in "Hate" seems to be all the rage now. It baffles me that they didn't take off, they were soooo good.

  • lol great song

  • The Delgados sound sometimes kind of remind me of Ben Fold's Five, but I like The Delgados much better. I wish they would have gotten their due respect so the the group could still be around.

Probably could have been hailed & recognized by all as one of the greatest bands if they were around the right time (era) & got the right endorsements, but instead they will probably go down as one of the most under-appreciated bands in comparison to their talent & the quality output of songs.

  • to bad they are not a band anymore

  • I will destroy Youtube's headquarters if this video gets removed :)

  • Why Youtube? Just go kick the ass of the satanic cappie who copyrighted it.

  • man they are good!!!!!!

  • One of the best songs EVER.

  • Absolutely!!!

  • I discovered this band after they had already split. What a shame. My favourite songs are 'everbody come down and their cover version of 'mr bluesky'

  • i found them out by watching gunslinger girls too bad they splited

  • haha i'm watching the series right now. i was distracted by the song and i HAD to look them up. good to know that i'm not the only geeky one here. (i don't mean that in an offensive way. geeks secretly run the planet.)

  • lol name

  • Comment removed

  • 2:20 that happen to me once {in an gig!!!)

  • This was in Heckler!

  • i didnt know Pauly Shore was in a band!?!?!

    :D

  • is this the official video?

  • As far as I know, yes.

  • yes xD

  • @mauiztic Yes

  • Great video.

My favourite bit is Emma at 1:32

    ^_^

  • fuck man i loved this song is just so great xp

  • Alun Woodward's running Chemikal Underground records. Not too shabby. Specially the new Phantom Band album.

  • Delgado is a Spanish lastname n it means skinny/slim

  • Yeah, my last name is Delgado, and the name of the band was in honor to Pedro Delgado. Wanna know who he was? Google it. (Y)

  • What the hell happened to Alun Woodward since 2005? It's like he disappeared into a black hole?

  • running record labels and being a legend

  • @manco82 Lord Cut glass! - check it out, it's awesome :)

  • cooollllll :)

  • I love this group. Not only because we share the same last name. ;)

  • alun woodward is a fucking legend. the best thing to come out of motherwell since the electric bar.

  • i love it!!!!

    Is the best super cool!!!!!

  • This song is beautiful. Absolutely, tragically, beautiful. Or is it beautifully tragic? Well, no matter, beauty itself is enough.

  • That's funny, I always thought that's what all normal YouTube comments were for.

  • dang, great video :)

  • i love this song! it speaks to me....-cries-

  • this song really made me rethink the world

  • Good on you.

  • sage:

    It's all about the "H."

  • Still love Coming in from the Cold most...

    Awesome song!

  • Another great song.

  • One of my all time favorite tunes. Love this song.

Comon hate yourself, everyone else does so just enjoy yourself ;)

  • are they being sarcastic with the "hate is all you need" statement?

  • I certainly hope so ;)

  • :l......

No...Yes.. errrr to hard to explain x_x

  • @jcskater89 Aye, but it is a very dark parody of the kind of attitude yer get from the less inteligent population of Glasgow....also, it a wordplay on "All you need is love" by some group called the beatles? dont know if you heard o them? Used to be popular some time ago. Cool tune though.

  • @stutaggart who has not heard of the beatles? They are fantastic and shall never die they are still popular today...

  • @jcskater89 not rly, u have to look at what the lyrics mean

  • @jcskater89 They're just replace the world love. So yes.

  • @jcskater89 I think its a play on The Beatles "Love is all you need"

  • @hosway1992 finally somebody figured it out, that was the first thing that came to mind when i first heard the song

  • @hosway1992 Duh.

  • The delgados r truly amazing.

    Im in love.

    :P

And these songs always have meaning to them.

only rly dumm dummys cnt figure it out.

  • Yes, you are so right.

I was going to say to someone who asked were they being sarcastic, 'Yes, they are,' but it's so much more than sarcasm, it's like a religion, a theory, a theorem, a revelation, a pointing of fingers at the darkness in everyone's inner selves that we needed to survive in a hostile world and now need to control because we are more hostile than the world.

    Did you like that?

I didn't know how to explain it but I think I did.

I'll send it to that person.

  • EXACTLY!! :O

omg u like read meh mind.

    i feel the same thing.

with the economy and all the nonsense in the world these days they always somehow bring life into there songs! ^^

  • I haven't heard them til I caught their performance on Jools Holland. With Warren Zevon, Tracy Chapman, Angie Stone, Nick Mason, and Joe Strummer, they seemed a bit out of place even on such an ecclectic show, but on their own I enjoyed their set.

  • Wow.

Total opposite of All you need is Love.

    Love it.

  • wow i kno right i still like it thow

  • Qué grandes eran

  • ive watched gunslinger it's very good but the band i thought the light before we land was their only good song until i heard this song and now i love all their songs

  • the delgados have quite a variety in their albums, which should be checked out before making sweeping statements, although 'hate' is easily my favourite. but for music like this, whether you like it or not, you can't deny they do it better than everyone else. melodies, lyrics, arrangements, even production. the delgados really never got the recognition they deserved which, ironically, will make their following (like me) ever more fervent. pro delgado! huzzah.

  • It's true most indie groups sound the same, they do and I personally only liked the song Light Before We Land, it's beautiful and I noticed this band because of Gunslinger, but I haven't heard anything from them that tops that song... yet

Suffice to say, they got more exposure from the anime rather than because they're really good

  • I wonder how bands like these become popular. Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but I personally can't see very many redeeming qualities in this band. I think it's the same problem I hav with most Indie bands these days, they all sound the same.

I dunno, I'm not trying to say you guys shouldn't like them, you can if you want to, but I think it's kinda tragic when musicians, who should have something to make them unique, sound like they're all emulating the same album.

  • you've obviously never heard much of the Delgados.

  • Of course, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith are obviously much more capable of making music that is listenable...except not really at all, actually.

  • well, its your opinion, and i respect it, but i dont think all indie bands sound the same

  • @olishant fuck off, the delgados were a fucking amazing band you knob. go listen to michael buble you cunt

  • A total hymn!!!

  • I'm watching Gunslinger Girl because of hearing them, instead of the other way around. Weird.

  • i like this one specially, the instrumentation is really awesome

  • I think that gunslinger girl gives a lot of populity... Its a great band but not popular :s

  • Yeah, but pretty much only over in Asia and western anime fans. Not exactly "widespread," but definitely better than nothing.

  • Yeah it's a friggen tragedy that they never took off commercially. Who knows, maybe if they win the Mercury Prize in 2001 it's all different.

  • I heard their song, "The light before we land" from than Anime also. I'm so glad I did, because this is a group that is one of my favorites.

  • Their songs r amazing. I can't believe they're not that famous cos they should be

  • I' heard of Gunslinger Girl but I never heard of the Delgados before- thanks for introducing me to a new group

  • emma pollock is more sexy than a dog that's just got out of a river!

  • Their music videos are simple and plain

but this is what i like about

    simple , plain , melody

  • Comment removed

  • my personal favorites by them are This song and the light before we land :3 <3

  • Yea didnt know about such a great english band even though I live in england. It took a great japanese animation to know about them. One of my fav bands ever great tunes great band. And great anime too of course.

  • They're actually Scottish.

  • wow, same here. Gunslinger Girls seems to have given them quite a bit of publicity.

  • quality

  • I miss them.

  • Yeah, but at least we can bask at their videos :)

  • Awesome vid!

  • Great song. Good video.

  • Really, atomzk? That's interesting, since Emma's solo album isn't released until September.

  • I'm sure I did listen to some preview mp3's back then. It wasn't the whole album, but it didn't do anything for me. Anyway, it's out now.

  • la parodia a los beattles

    adoro esta banda

    emma es la mejor

  • "Pull the wires from the wall" is from Peloton(1998).

  • i miss the delgados :(

  • Wee all do :(

  • Their best song is "pull the wires from the wall" From the Great Eastern album IMO. but Hate is one of Alun Woodward best song along with "Girls of Valor" and "The Drowning Years"

  • I completely agree with your Delagdos-tastes! "Pull the wires from the wall" is a gem.

  • yeah.. i found out about this band through GunSlinger Girl...so don't be embarassed when i heard that song...the light before we land... i said to myself.. i gotta find out who sings that song.. it's friggin awesome... and ever since... i'm totally in love with The Delgados....they're fantastic..more people should know about them cuz they r so talented..

  • Same story. :) Too bad they disbanded. Emma's solo album is not that good IMO.

  • I just heard two songs off it that are dazzling.

  • I found the Delgados from Gunslinger Girl also. Hah.

I love this song though, thanks!

  • i reallized that this is my most played song in my itunes, 137 times.

  • This song is unique

  • One of the best band of the late 90s-early 00's.

Shame they've never been regognized as what they are : geniuses.

  • You know, it's a little embarrassing to admit but I didn't know about these guys until they used "Light Before We Land" in the anime Gunslinger Girl. I'm so glad they used it :)

  • Oh my god, I just met Emma Pollock today! She's cool !

  • really? I'm jealous.

  • thats their best song IMO

  • thats how i found out about it,great anime great song, great band.

  • beautiful song, dude
