  • Muy buena interpretación, resalta la sensibilidad y la composición de esta obra de arte de King crimson..

  • Comment removed

  • i like this jazz taste arrange version equally as the original one.

  • Expertly done, sounds great.

  • Awesome! The use of the base for the vocal line is brilliant! And the sax - it was made for this! Great upload.

  • good cover, really, I didn' thought It was possible

  • nice take on a brilliant song

  • solo una palabra ARTE

  • is that a soprano saxaphone or a clarinet?

  • @llllukesssmyth Soprano Sax ;)

  • great guys! very different from what i expected to find on youtube...

  • Wow! Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing.

  • orrivél

  • fantastic interpretation, this is the sacred cow of crimson music...these guys have near enough done the impossible...better by far than recent renditions by former crimson members...how about the mincer or larks tongues next??...

  • 私はこのグループの名前を知ることを望むでしょう

    in english or italian

  • @SuperLarrymartin "Shin Gifu Station Department Store." "Shin" means new, and "Gifu" is the name of prefecture.

  • maybe i can offer myself for guitarrist and singer!!!!

  • Excellent adaptation! Thanks for posting this! :D

  • The vocal bass solo is orgasmic.

  • That is an amazing interpretation. Starless is one of my favorite songs too.

  • Great !!!!

  • starless made in japan wow good thanks

  • NICE , & YOU GUYS ARE REALLY HoT. no disrespect!!!!! INCREDIBLE VERSION

  • Really great! What is the band's name?

  • I'm the ultimate crimson fan and I praise you guys on a job well done, nothing will ever mimic the orginial but this is a nice rendition. Good job

  • @Trianaw AND I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER ! i have always loved king crimsom, but you are absolutely right. THIS BAND MADE IT EVERYTHING. / JAZZY.!!! I hope this band keeps up SHARING THEIR TALENTS !!!!

  • Well done

  • even R Fripp must be proud of these kids! excelent job on one masterpiece of seventies prog legend King Crimson at its peak...

  • Japanese musicians rock ! amazing talent

  • These guy did an awesome job!!!

  • Excelente versión , felicitaciones¡¡¡

  • I'm really impressed . Unexpeted version of Starless - not just a cover but much, much more.

  • whats the name of this band

  • nice sound of Jazzbass!

  • i like it. good job guys. keep on going!

  • The soprano sax is awesome but you cannot replace the magnificent vocals of Wetton with a bass solo!!!! nice cover anyway...

  • 特に後半が凄かったです

  • Whoa...vintage KC with no buzzing overdriven guitar... this might take a minute to adjust to. Shall i adjust my set or not?

  • Better than the Wetton version here in Youtube.

  • Beautiful. Really strong. THANKS

  • The most breath-taking song

  • Fantastic. That really was a treat.

  • love it

  • Wish I was there to hear it live. Nice job!!

  • btw, this is jazz

  • GREAT COVER! FUCK YEAH! So many lame covers of this on Youtube. This is so refreshing. You guys are TALENTED!

I think Bill Bruford Himself would smile if he heard this version of the song.

Shame about the clipped ending though.

  • @FinbarFinbarFinbar

the 320 version of this off the one.... compilation is... amazing, its nice to "watch" it though sometimes...

  • I believe Mr. Fripp would be quite pleased. Excellent...

  • nice..

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • Great rendition!! Awesome!!

  • beautiful... brilliant, great! =D

  • At last, a proper cover of this song. These guys know their stuff. This is brilliant.

  • I like chicken.

  • My dad loved jazz. He would've loved this. All that dissonance was music to his ears. Great job.

  • Excelente!!!

  • check cj3

  • respetuoso innovador maravilloso

  • Yes, they're just too great. Full of imagination.

They have such a beautiful story to tell. They are a Japanese amateur band called "Gifu Station Department Store ". Gifu is a city name they're from. They have their own site to present their original pieces, mainly fusion kind they say. The site is, regrettably, only in Japanese, but you can try !

  • Wow... brilliant.

  • awesome under the sky

  • Fuckin great cover!! Best I,ve ever heard... It is not a mere copy but and interpretation.

  • Astounding reinterpretation- taking on a KC without guitar- this is nothing short of brilliant.

  • This is the way a cover is supposed to be, not trying to copy the song note for not but tributing it and providing one's own originality and musical creativity into it.

  • GREAT DRUMMIN`!

  • This is B-A-D BAD. Seriously SO epic. I have to watch this video like twice a year just to get stoked up. It may not be the tightest thing in the world but MAN is it raw. And like most others have said, it supplements the original rather than copy it. Great stuff.

  • The band seems like it's ready to step out of their skins at certain points... Absolutely great middle section, forsaking the dynamics of the original for some exploratory territory... reverent yet fresh... Man, I can always count on the japanese for these pleasant surprises!

  • This has the feel you get on some of the Nice's output. It would sound even better if the sax was an oboe though. Still its well done.

  • I think it was excellent.

  • it is never easy to make a CRIMSON composition sound almost like the original, yet that different and fresh. RESPECT from a CRIMSON fan

  • Excellent :)

  • Piano solo starting at 4:09 is brilliant. Interesting addition to the original composition that takes it in a surprising original jazz direction.

  • Awesome rendition of a timeless classic!!!!

  • Nice jazzy interpretation!

  • I like the way they bring out the jazziness of the original, a nice companion piece, and stands up well on its own.

  • Jeez, so much unneccecary criticism.

This is an awesome enterpretation no matter what anyone says. To take a masterpiece and make it your own without making it sound like shit is quite a feat.

    Kudos guys

  • what he said.

these guys all can play the shit out their instruments

  • Well done cover. Very well done. Keep on doing what you do. Show these people the music of King Crimson! You people are idiots if you think they made this song. It's a classic King Crimson progressive rock jazz-fusion peice.

  • Good, but the drummer needs some restraint

  • I prefer the King crimson

  • i agree! there is a profund lack of energy in this interpretation

    i do prefer the original

  • All they are "lacking" is a distortion. If you saw the crap John Wetton is trying to pass off as Starless these days or the tepid contrapuntal nonsense KC has been playing live lately you would appreciate that these young'uns have way more energy that the lethargic brits I used to idolize... Quit hanging on to 1974. It wasn't even that good a year! =P

  • I think they play too many notes....everyone wants to freak out and looses his grip on the piece. Simplicity is the key!

  • Excellent cover.

  • that was f****** awesome

  • FUCK YEA!

  • beautiful

  • I think that worked quite well. They're only young guys too.

The tone on the soprano sax reminded me a bit of the theme and incidental music off "The Long Good Friday" by Francis Monkman..

  • that was awesome!!!

  • very nice

  • This is one of the best covers of anything I've ever heard or seen anywhere. Normally covers are so yawnsome. Who are these Asian musical genii? Does anybody know? And their bass player has my hands!

I love this so much. *sigh*

  • yes, i will agree with elborbah1. too jazzy!

but if this is your way of being expressed throughout this music, then your version is more than welcome and liked.

thanks for uploading. great job indeed.

    keep rocking!

    and yes.........PEACE.

  • Nice stuff guys, keep this shit up.

    Liked the bass.

  • Bit too jazzy. But great effort overall. I like the logo on the bass ;)).

  • yeah, paradoxically, it isn't the sax. it's the piano arpeggios and the excessive cymbals.

  • Not really too jazzy .Listen to the stuff on the earlier Crimson albums, like Wake or Lizard... But these guys are sometimes not completely with it, like a few things seem to stressed, or not in touch wih the others. But all in all a very devoted dedication to the masters...

  • this music have passion!

  • realy nice work...

  • Umm...Awesome!! That was incredible. The sax solo was great!! I love kicking back and feeling that I'm in the room with the band.

  • amazing 5****

  • WOW! This is what Starless might have sounded like if it were written for the Lizard album... impossible, i know but this reading of the masterpiece is so wonderful i found myself tearing up from the beauty of it!

  • excelent!

  • Thank you for your homage to this song. Wonderful playing guys!!

  • I have the LP. Red. Anyone want it?

  • Do you know the name of this japanese band?

  • this is nothing but amazing

  • Nice work guys - you kept true to the original while making it your own! Keep it up!

  • Great, great version.

Keep up the good work, keep on improving it.

  • You know its Starless and Bible Black, right?

  • Wrong. This song is called Starless.

There is another song called Starless and Bible black., from another cd.

  • Really? This sounds a lot like Starless and Bilbe Black from the album Starless and Bible Black. What is this on?

  • Yeah, they are often mistaken with each other, it's not your fault, the info is wrong on several sites.

This song, close to 12 minutes is called Starless and appears on "Red", best album in my opinion

The song properly called Starless and Bible Black appears on the album with the same name, it's and instrumental and it last around 9 minutes.

Check their discography and you will confirm it =)

  • very nice job!

  • Very good cover... funny, it even sounds more Japanese with that sax

  • i think its a clarinet

  • I think its sax ,soprano sax.

  • It is a Soprano Sax indeed. Just like on the Original.

  • I was led to beleive that it was infact Ian on alto. That he had written the peice a few years earlier and they incorperated his peice into wettons starless and Ian sessioned it on the album.

  • on second though this may only be the sax peice before the reprise.

  • sweet

  • Great Cover

  • Really good version of it, they've made it awesomely jazzy. Love the piano solo.

  • nice version, but not enough bass... could be just the recording though

  • Real good, they totally nailed the end bit

  • Wow - That was cool!!!

  • muy buena cool version

  • Loved it, a great version of a great tune- Very nice work guys !

  • Very nice job, All new and yet all original.

    Good Stuff!

  • This is a cover of King Crimson methinks

  • I have to admit I've never seen japanese musicians playing that soulful and really gentle, so you guys have my adorations.

  • My compliment for this excellent interpretation

of Starless. Smooth and truly elegant. WELL done!

  • Very nice interpretation!

  • i like the jazzy piano solo on the really dissonant bass line. good stuff

  • this was good even without a guitar

  • Sounds like Joe Hisaishi...

I'm waiting for Beat Takeshi to come out and shoot everyone.

  • AMAZING. Love the transition to and from the fast groove.

  • Bravo! Awesome! You rock!

  • My GOD!!!

  • man no words leave my mouth with this song when it is played with as much soul as this

  • holy shit that was awesome....domo

  • wow!

  • is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the Japanese love King Crimson, and so far their bands do a damn good interpretation of their songs?

  • i think kc appeals because of it highly technical, progressive nature. it isn't a rocknroll thing. great stuff

  • no comment *****

  • good

  • 몽환적인 사운드..

    Incredible..ㅡㅡ

  • nice guys go on

  • This is actually excellent. Really like how they made it their own. Also nice what looks like a Larks Tongues sticker on the bassists bass!

  • Pretty talented version of Starless .. The piano player - as well as the rest of the band - is a 5 star musician

    J L KC

  • Piano+bajo+bataca+clarinete....!!!

    wuaaauuuuuu!!!

eso sritas y ñores es armonia.. que baaaarbaroooss!...

Salu2 a la republica hna del japon..

    Gracias por este aporte....

  • Increible...

  • sound like early KC, so jazzy

  • Gives nice shed to the original piece, very jezzy

  • gotta love juzz music. ...and the simpsons. :)

  • Great!!! ;)

  • has off to ya lads, v. brave composition, i thoughaly enjoyed it!

  • This is my favourite KC piece . i love it.

    Thanks for v.impresive iterprit.

    I add to my fav.

  • the drummer is to busy during the piano solo.

  • Well done. I've been waiting for a band to have the heart to do this song.

  • these guys are the best... in my opinion this is one of their best songs

  • This is a cover of a King Crimson song, and it's King Crimson who are the best, not these guys.. :)

  • Indeed!

  • these guys still did a very good job covering it. if you noticed, they did add quite some heart to it themselves

  • @misterjenkins They are not trying to be KC, or better... these guys have done an outstanding cover. WHO ARE THEY??? I bet their original music is fuckin great!!

How can you say `not these guys´? They are great musicians, just as well.

  • very heart felt

  • Absolutely OUTSTANDING!

  • いつの間にか引き込まれてあっという間の10分、

    ジャジーなアレンジが素晴らしい!

    特にプログレはリズム隊あってのものだと再認識。

  • Gosh...before now, the apocalypse never got you laid...

    "Starless and Bible Black"

  • Wow... this song without the mellotron sounds very film noir... like an old Mitchum film. Who would have known?

  • Amazing!

  • Oh my God that absolute aching line... sigh. beautiful good job;

  • You guys should be very proud of this performance. Wow!!!!!

    What else you got? LOL

  • honestly!

  • VERY NICE

  • Fantastic performance - this is the way I feel it is supposed to be played. Bravo!

  • Very nice cover, though a sax might've sounded better in my opinion. Otherwise, everything sounds spot on. I can only hope for more KC covers.
