The only reason RM training is a full 30 wk course is because the Royal Navy cant afford multi specialty royal marines like it once did back in the 1800s and early 1900s.
The RN cant train non infantry RMCs, The USN can and for good reasons.

Royal Marines had no role until WW2. They did terrible during WW1, Zeebrugge 1918 is a perfect example. Gallipoli was also a bad episode for RMLI
US Marines were the most evolved units of their type in 1918 when they were deployed as shock infantry in the Bellau Wood region to halt the German advance on Paris.
Royal Marines and British infantry was nowhere near to be seen.
The royal marines went ashore in a good number of occasions prior to WW1-2, they were met with disaster 1/2 of the time. Petropavlovsk and Peiho landings of 1854...Dieppe and Tobruk raids of 1942 to name a few.
They are also the only Maritime force in military history to mutiny.

I just know from when i went through (not royal marines, Aus Army) the 1st thing they asked was if we were left or right handed, and gave us the approp rifle. It's only a matter of the ejector port and safety catch etc being on other side. Not too expensive to do, but you never know :)

1. RMC potential recruits run 3 miles, its broken into 2 timed 1.5 miles (the second be a best effort with the average time having to be 9 mins).

No...The PRMC test is the same as the USMC IST test, only the USMC does an extra pull up.
Quality? I saw quality retreat out of Basrah and S. Helmand in 07 with all of its pride and militia behind its asses.
US Marines run farther and shoot farther. Carlos Hathcock's kill count is larger than all of RM's snipers totaled since WW2.
US Marines have earned the titles of world's top marksmen since the 20s and 30s...not a single RM so far.
