@Lunarlaserranging Airplanes are the most complex machines many ppl ever come into contact with. To explain how airplanes fly to a common person is an illusion of the mind. While we can talk about how an a wing works, designing it and actually building it is a really not just 1 miracle but a 1,000 miracles of engineering and luck. In my experience as a NASA aerospace engineer, the more I dig into subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flight the more I am amazed everytime how we got it right.
there is nothing paritucalry complicated about a wing though is there. the angle of incidence is what makes it attack the relative wind correctly. the wings are by no means the complicated advanced parts of an airplane. MOst advanced bit is the engines
@Lunarlaserranging: It is true that the development and cost of turbo machine powerplants do rival the entire airframe (i.e 777 & ge-90). However, this is only because of the development of C.F.D. for wing design has made the process so streamlined. Powerplants do have more moving parts and that inherently makes them more time consuming to optimize, however wings are very complex. There shape is by no mistake, there is a reason why it took until 1904 for people to create heaver than air flight.
@glogalswaze: Consider this: Wings generate lift by creating different pressure zones of their respective sides. But to analyze and understand why this happens and create designs that not only produce this affect but do it a way that the aircraft does not stall suddenly, or does not let the flow separate uncontrollably, takes serious calculus and numerical integration. But don't take my word for it, google linear potential flow theory and thats what we use in our programs.
along with the cabin pressure & dry air. Experts have said regularly doing long flights is very bad for health. This is why pilots are only allowed to fly so many hours per week. As well as for safety its also for health reasons. if you flew 10 hour flights per day it would soon ruin you
i think because they might use GE instead of RR engines. GE engines from what i've heard here on youtube sound quite than RR. RR sounds more like a bee buzzing.
Emirates is a dream come true of the great rule of Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Al-Makhtom.
Great leader with great country !

Anyone that calls a wing simple clearly hasn't done any exploration into aircraft design and enginering
bigpete544 1 year ago
airplanes look so complicated but in reality they are quite simple in the way they fly aerodynamically
