  • does the ice fade away or does it get covered by dust?

  • what the hell!

  • Comment removed

  • Not that there isn't ice, but just looking at 1 crater, couldn't the ice have been ice from the impact object itself?

  • WOW WAY COOL MAN..NOT

  • no universso só existe nós

  • and venus is the next earth, along with mercury, next venus moon, well, thats only imagination... anyway whats the big deal with this, it was obvious that water is very common in the universe..

  • thats not entirely true, being as if and when our sun dies and has its last ditch attempt at resisting gravity, it will turn into a red giant most likey engulfing earth and possibly mars in its coronosphere. not to mention the ammount of solar energy that would be radiating from it. mars with no atmostphere wouldnt cut it (in my opinion).

  • Don't you (hope) by then our technology will be great enough to thrust our planet slowly 180 deg from the sun to keep us in a nice limit?

  • even if we could thrust our sun when it turns to a white dwarf it wont be giving off much heat we'd have to be pretty close to the sun to really feel anything, further more until ww (being man) can come up with a different fuel source then say deisel gasoline or any othe rsort of natural resource. there is no way we could produce enough fuel/force to get us close and then stop us from collidng (sp?) with the sun. just my opinion

  • Does this mean that sometime in the future people will be able to live on Mars?

  • if its ture then in 100 years maybe

  • we could live on mars now, with a life support system.Yes,a colony on mars will definitely happen. Our first step in ruling..er...colonizing the galaxy.Creating a breathable atmosphere is another story.I don't think mars has a magnetosphere,so radiation is also a factor.I could see a city there, like in total recall.haha,...seriously.

  • More importantly... what's the story behind the "noblepuker" screen name? Im guessing either too much drinking or bulimia....

  • You're the one to talk. With an attitude like that, I bet you're some moronic emo kid.

Also, argumentum ad hominem. I am unimpressed with you.

  • Wow. They found water on Mars. great news.

  • ***** thank you for posting

  • oh noes, religious ppl can't handle this

  • Awesome!

  • You are obviously incredibly thick. You are a sorry excuse for a human being. Please fuck off and die.

  • if we get to mars what is going to happen to the people that is going to live there with out viruses and bacterias? wouldnt they be able to return to earth after some generations?

  • it could have the opposite effect of what your thinking, the less exposure we have to bacteria and viruses the worse off we will be, because are bodies immune system is not building up its immunities. Being as there is nothing to fight off, therefore they would probably worse off (in my opinion)

  • FUCK MARS

  • real mature

  • Don't pay attention to that person. Keep asking questions.

  • He's obviously an incredibly arrogant moron. Do not be polite to him. That will not work out well.

  • whats the name of the song in the background?

  • Vanilla ice... ice... baby...

  • thats worse. this is something that you should already know.

  • Is there a way to strengthen the magnetic shield or even create one?

  • yeah duh, how old are you not to know that? 10?

  • Not everyone knows everything about everything. I doubt you know the temperatures required to cook chocolate at to get different crystal structures.

  • i think thats not as easy to know as knowing that earth is bigger than mars. its like not knowing what ocean is greater, the pacific or atlantic. unless people dont care which is a pity.

  • Realize, however, that common sense is not common, and intelligence is not frequent.

Besides that fact, I don't even find it important to know which planet is bigger than which unless you intend to either pursue a career in that field, or are an intellectual.

  • you dont have to be a rocket scientist to know as simple stuff as the size of mars compared to earth. i was just surprised that he made a question like that.

  • I agree that knowing which planet is bigger is an easy thing to look up, but criticizing someone in such a negative way is not the way to help them. Just inform them how they can find the information. He/she was just asking a question and you slapped them upside their head for it. Not cool.

  • Exactly, Carl.

Edge, do you really think everyone knows or should know 'mars is bigger than earth'?

So we should repremand all babies, toddlers, children, and tribesmen, since they don't. I'll go start working on that right now.

  • no im not saying that. but he is 15 so i thought that he should have done this at school. anyway i dont intend to put more fuel in the fire so i just take back what i said. peace

  • i am sorry then that i was arrogant, my bad.

  • It's alright. I apologize for being critical.

  • I would suspect he is a north american we are so over stimulated with "stuff" there is little time to be interested in the sciences.

unless of course it's called "creation science" or "intelligent design".

    Sigh........ how depressing

  • so he doesn't know, it's not actually a thing everyone knows, what's good, is he asked, and now he does, be proud you've given knowledge to someone

  • no .

  • Water on Luna, water on Mars. This is looking better and better.

  • if somehow we could just turn the ice there into a liquid buy a science team or something i dunno perhaps we could set up a space station on mars or even a small colony not outside of course

  • wow, if Carl Sagan was still alive he would be jumping with excitement

  • :c and there you had to do it. You had to remind me that one of the greatest publicizers of science is dead.

  • Great video. I can't wait for Mars Science Lab.

Also, the Maven probe should uncover more info about the atmosphere and climate history.

  • Excellent!

  • Me parece fantastico.

  • Me gusta!

  • it doesn't seep into the soil because there is no air pressure to make it liquid... it evaporates into the thing atmosphere. In turn the atmosphere is blown off - all but a little bit - by solar winds due to a lack of magnetic shielding

  • Or maybe it seeps back into mars soil.

  • Ok, but the water vapor is just released into a very dry atmosphere, it doesn't just float out to space does it?

  • Some of it will be broken up into its components by the Sun's UV radiation (and the hydrogen, in particular, can escape into space) and some will frost onto the surface during the Martian winter.

  • Um, all planets have gravity.

  • thats technically incorrect, for example, astroids are said to be the mini planets, and they dont have a gravity field at all

  • Everything has a gravityfield, even you. All matter has gravity to all other matter, however, most objects don't have a significant enough mass to affect certain other objects, such as me and my keyboard, or are too far away to significantly affect other objects such as the earth and any single star in the Andromeda Galaxy.

  • you didn't do very well in high school physics did you?

  • So the more Mars gets hit by meterorites the more water vapor is released into the atmosphere. Would it ever rain on mars?

  • No, not enough air pressure for water to exist as a liquid i.e rain clouds and also its a very cold climate on Mars.
