  • Oh, Lou Reed, you sexy devil!

That voice goes pretty well with the voluptuous but angular mouth, but the rest of the body doesn't quite work....

It doesn't really matter though; this movie ROCKS!!!

    \m/-(*0*)-\m/

  • This movie was really lame and stupid lol

  • Dude, this was one of the coolest, stoneyest cartoons ever made. It blew my mind when I first saw it, (WAY better than Heavy Metal) and I have turned many people on to it since (like a cult or something...) Whatever... Rock and Rule RULES! The Mok character MAKES this flick. I'm thinking Mick Jagger and Steve Tyler as inspiration... whatever, it flat out WORKS. GREAT character. The Zip Brothers were cool too...

  • Getting high at 2:53

  • This is amazing. I remember the previews in the early 80s, but didn't know what it was all about. That Uncle Mikey part was creepy :O

  • And EVIL spelled backwards is LIVE

And we all want to do that

  • 3:42...HOLY SHIT!

  • I have no bloody idea what I just watched and I'm not even sure I liked it, but that was certainly an experience.

  • goodbah and beee gud!

  • This is not lou reed. this is iggy pop.

  • @d20avatar - nope, Lou Reed all the way. Easily confirmed through Google.

  • @d20avatar

Iggy Pop does Pain and Suffering, My Name is Mok could only be pulled off by Lou.

  • This looks like one of those weird Don Bluth video games.

  • and with his denousment of Uncle Mikey Mok sealed his own fate :)

  • hahaha the 80's how i missed you so.

  • Am I the only one noticing how absolutely terrifying Uncle Mikey's show is?

  • My name is Mok thanks alot...thx. for posting

  • Fok Mok

  • yay for drugs!

  • is it just me, or is monk abit like d.bowie

  • @bexislols Mok was designed as a construct between Iggy Pop and David Bowie.

  • the fuck?

  • @Seanorman88 my thoughts exactly

  • Heh, I like how he goes 'Of course not!'..Mok's is a badass..rat..thing.

  • Is this a Children's Movie, dude just took a hit of coke! WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS??????

  • @mrlijones89

It started production as a kids film but eventually it got away from that (as you have noticed ;) Animation geared towards adults wasn't mainstream like it is now, so this film was pretty much just swept under the rug and later became a cult hit.

  • Anyone else thinking of the Rocky Horror Picture Show when they do a close up of Mok's lips?

  • Mok does not look good with a blonde wig on

  • Luv that song! Somebody should do a Death the Kid Video with it!

  • I personally think that if it had one more passage, this could have been the perfect Villain Song

  • @RazorRaven619 There is an extended version

  • He's the Goblin Queen from The Princess and the Goblin.

  • Poor guy. Mock doesn't know how to treat grown children.

  • 6 people couldn't tell the difference between good or evil

  • The song could've been better. A lot better. But, love the animation.

  • R@R is out on BluRay! 25 bux at amazon.com.

  • Love you ...s Rock ,n, Rule...

  • I just realised that he is sniffing some drug at 2:54 lol :D

  • @Finlandperkele And he smokes a joint just before he takes the hit. Mok hits drugs almost as hard as Keith Richards did in the day.

  • Anyone else ever got creeped out by that uncle mikey?

  • @AnthroTsuneon

Of course! It's such an evil clown, such a true stereotype!

  • to get the full effect of this song i have to blast this song, but that's okay

  • Now I get it when it he says "World War 3", now that I've seen the movie. xD

  • Forget Transformer, this is clearly the highlight of Lou Reed's career.

And are his back-up singers the colored girls going "Doot do doot"?

  • ...Well, somebody has to say it.

DE BIG LIPPED RAT PERSON MOMENT!

  • Awesome movie, i adored it for years since 93 when i was 12 when i saw this on TBS thanks to my TV guide and watched other kickass adult animated cult classics like Heavy Metal, Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival and American Pop. I made myself an uncensored copy of this movie on a second VCR i taped it from the rental tape and the same for Vampire Hunter and Robot carnival, i bought HM and AP when the finally hit video. One of my fave animated movies.

  • did any one else kind of feel sorry for Zip?? i think my heart melted a little at the end :,)

xxx i freakin love this movie XXX

  • Comment removed

  • Freaking right on! This video is no longer being blocked by Lizenz Agentur in Canada and who knows how many other countries. So very good to be able to watch it once again.

  • For being a star of a kid's show, Uncle Mickey sure is creepy!

  • @DarkFaust90

He looked like a Tim Burton creation

  • you think that the villain song would be a little more intimidating, and the singing seems so unenthusiastic.

and what a strange topic for a childrens' show,

"can you tell the difference between good and evil?"

    seriously

  • Is anyone else reminded of Rocky Horror picture show with the lips?

  • @Cradz18 I was thinking the exact same thing! XD

  • my name is wax, ant0nwax

  • um. is it weird that i think he's hot..? just, the smile and stuff. but i think he's really only hot in the song. xD

  • I love Mok. He kind of seems like a sexy modern rock and roll version of Jafar from Aladdin.

  • Wow. mick Jagger and and david bowie fused with a rat. just what i've always wanted......

  • @KagurasSacrifice He's a rat? He always seemed rather cattish.

  • @KagurasSacrifice Given how wild their younger days were there maybe one out there somewhere (or more than one). :)

  • @LibraGamesUnlimited You my, friend, are my new favorite person.

  • @KagurasSacrifice Thanks :)

  • Mok is the anti-furry.

  • No offense but I can see why it said his record sales were going down in the movie.

Great singer, but repetitive song and tune...

I like it when he makes himself sparkle pink. Very amusing XD

  • The biggest thing since WORLD WAR 3!!

  • what is this i dont even

  • Thanks for jogging my memory

  • Mok is an ugly f*ck. If he was a hot villain I would of sided with him though...

  • what a great villain song

  • @beatensenseless902

You should hear the Mok song Triumph. ^_^

  • @Hum0ng0us i have, it is also awesome

  • @beatensenseless902

    I agree!! ^_^

  • @Hum0ng0us that guy who does moks singing voice is amazing, isn't he?

  • @beatensenseless902

It's Lou Reed. Normally I'm not a fan of his, but in Rock and Rule I just LOVE him!!

  • I wonder what would happne if Mok ever went touring with Lord Raptor. Whatever happened, it would be fucking epic.

  • Mok; based after Mick Jagger, singing voice by Lou Reed,

Pretty much the coolest motherfucker ever.

  • I wish i had hot backup singers that say my name lol

  • What do they keep thanking us for?

  • he's the greatest thing since what?

  • @bestmand902 seriously, what did he say?

  • @bestmand902

    since world war three.

  • Thanks for including the bit with "Uncle Mikey"

I love this movie so much. This animation and the songs are ace

  • trippy

  • I was really hoping this song would be on NC's Top 11 Villain Song list :( . Hell, this is more better than that Chicago Song.

  • The Chicago song had girls, and even though they killed their husbands, they were strangely arousing, kinda like how snake hypnotizes it's prey before eating them.

  • @SilverZeo88 that and the damn song stays in your head for at least 3 days.

  • Did Don Bluth make this? Did that Bestiality, Fury, Sum Bitch Make this(no offense MR. Bluth if your reading, i love your work, LBT 4eva.)?

  • @alucardnolifeking222

    nope he did not!

and the only bestiality lover here is you! - Don creates the illusion of animals he doesnt actually work with them you idiot :P haha

  • Possibly my favorite wtf part in this stoner movie.

  • lou reed rocks.

  • Man, that is some great animation, even if it looks like it was made by someone tripping on acid.

  • I was surprised that they got Lou Reed when the character is based on Mic Jagger.

    com 'on now... Mok Swagger.

    other than that... Great movie!

  • Man.

    I fucking love Mok's mouth.

  • what name is this movie i would like to see it

  • Rock and Rule. There's website where you can buy it.

  • I love how Zip, the dumbest (if sweetest) character in the film, cuts right through that moral-relativist bullshit Mok tries to give him.

  • I will buy this movie! And evil backwards is live!!!

  • "I am the killer !! I am the source !! .. and you WILL worship ME of course !! "

    I love that lyric there.

  • "Evil spelled backwards is LIVE!"

Best line ever. As much as I dislike this movie, I have to admit that the villain is pure gold.

  • @LeLimeLine You need to see the whole film. It's a classic and one of the only feature animated films that didn't suck back in the 80's

  • Mok is such a character i HAD to make a 3D model of him :)

  • Oh, do!

    Please!

  • The bass line drives like a Freigtliner.

  • One of the greatest soundtracks from on of the greatest Rock toons oin history

    Reed Cheap Trick

  • By God, yes, that's an AWESOME bass.

  • Sounds like Nietzcheism at it's worse.

  • Err, which part?

  • Don't reply to my previous comment, I looked it up, and I see preciesley what you mean.

  • 2:55 mok is snorting coke!

  • That isn't realy too surprising. . .

  • Man, I've never heard of this before this clip, but now I'm intrigued. It seems to me like it's got that same sort of graphic, fluid line movement as Pink Floyd's The Wall, but with cleaner lines. Very cool.

  • the animation company was a canadian company out of toronto ...they workd with star wars driods/ewoks cartoons and the care bears...the reason it was never pumped for the time was due to the drug use and mok says pissed off...it was shown on cbs...they gave it 1 bumper and 1 advert ....P.S Mok was saposta look like mic jagger but when he cought wind of this he had a cease and desist order put threw...later in life said it was 1 of the dumbest thing he ever did due to its underground hit

  • I don't care what anyone says Rock n Rule was the best animated film ever when I was a kid and it still is.

  • Amen to that, brother.

I wish I'd been alive during the 80s...

  • Hey, girls!

  • The start sounds very reminiscent of SteppinWolf "Born to be Wild" - nice cartoon.

  • you totally know what's gonna happen after the uncle Mikey scene. Oooooh, Zip...

    :(

why do they kill the comic relief?? why?

  • @bunnialchemistmeep

In the un-cut Canadian version, zip lives at the end. Only in the American version does Zip die :'(

  • really? So does he save Omar and hit the wall and survive? Does his brother still throw Mok into the hole??

  • To engage SRS mode-and give his brother a reason to off Mok.

Still doesn't make it any less sad. Poor guy...

  • This... well, regarding 90's camp value, this song and the rest of the movie are all off the damn scale. But DAMN if this song doesn't have awesome bass.

  • its good how they edited / shortened this song, if you hear the full version, it spoils the song

  • "She can sing or she can SCREAM!!! But she still pissed me off." :-) LOVE this movie!

  • He looks a bit like the modern Iggy Pop

  • I always got the idea that they were going for what Mick Jagger may look/be like when he got older. Probably

with some Iggy, except Iggy has a sense of humor and Mok

    doesn't.

  • True. He seem like a pretty charismatic character on this clip but in the rest of the film he's just the typical stiff, boring, one sidedly evil stock character.

  • Tried for Jagger, got Jackson.

Yeah, I know, bad taste regarding his death and all, but still...

As Vader said, "Look within yourself-you know it to be true."

  • not bad for canadians

  • Awesome movie. This was definitely one of the highlights.

  • Rock & Rule is a groundreaking animation milestone with a kickass rock score.

    it's totally fucking rad.

  • all villians should have back up singers

  • /signed

  • GREAT job! What a video!

    Thanks, much.

  • Where's the video or its name where Reed tears his face off part by part.? e-mail me. Thanks.

  • Mok's just so bad ass ....

  • Hell Yeah!!!!!!

  • Fuck you, it is all `70s and thats all they have ok

  • I think that song was from the 70s, right?

  • Guess I'm not the only one who saw this back in '83.

  • They certainly did put in a great deal of effort and time into the animation, too bad the film is so underrated.

  • This animation looks so familiar. Reminds me a lot of some of the ways characters move in Don Bluth movies or in Titan AE.

What is this movie called? Or is it just My name is mok

  • It's from a movie called "Rock & Rule" that was made in 1983 by Nelvana animation studios.

  • Easy, its what animation looks like when it rolls at more then 1.5 frames per second, and uses camera angles other then "zoom up on eye" and "rectangular shot from 5 feet away."

Unfortunately its more expensive to make animations like this so its been largely replaced/outsourced. Generally speaking all quality animations (especially rotoscoped ones) will have this kind of feel.

  • Lou Reed Rocks!

  • My friend just turned me onto the movie and it's such a great flick. Sad to see it didn't do well, but apparently most of the stuff like this didn't gain in popularity too much for being abit more adult.

  • SUCH A GREAT ND RARE MOVIE!

  • I've never even seen this movie, and I felt bad for the ox-like guy. I heard he gives Mok some payback at the end of the movie, so that makes it a little better.

I really want to see this movie, but I can't find any of it on YouTube...

  • Someone seriously needs to post the full movie... Preferably the original version with Greg Salata.

  • I love the bassline in this song too bad the subject matter sucks.

  • This movie belongs right next to Yellow Submarine and Transformers in the "Animated movie with awesome music" category. Also, poor Zip. :<

  • i'm finding every rock and rule video on youtube and protesting because some idiot took the invocation song off

  • I'm so glad I didn't see this when I was younger - would've given me nightmares! Now I try to admire that sort of feature in animation. xD

  • Mok a pretty cool guy. He squishes furrys and doesn't afraid of anything.

  • He looked pretty scared about getting thrown into a hole with a massive demon.

  • god this song has awesome bass lines.

    mok is scary as fuck.

  • It's amazing the animation this movie had, even though the general plot sucked a fat butt.

  • Trippy

  • Love this movie. Thanks for posting.

  • Nobody seems to be buying these "I survived the Mok Concert T-shirts..."

  • I HAD to haev this in my private collection from wheni first say it adn i was able to find it to adn add itot my DVD collection. i love the voice for Mok it fits him perfectly. Don Franks is excellent. i dont know if hes done voice work for anything else

  • He played the villian "Commander Wolf-Breath" in an old animated tv series called "MadBalls", also created by Nelvana, who created this.

  • He was in "Heavy Metal" (1981) with Susan Roman (who voiced Angel in "Rock & Rule"), NELVANA's "Ewoks" as the dulok shaman with his daughter Cree Summer Francks as Kneesa.

  • And to think this movie flopped... sigh.

  • i love this song . it rocks.

  • I'm the voodoo black musician priest. Wow...

  • Mok was animated by David Brewster who would go on to animate Ramses in "The Prince of Egypt".

  • Nice

  • Oh my god, I KNEW I had seen this kind of sinister style before. Thanks for the info!

  • You think he's acting, but he's not!

  • mok swagger

  • they have this song on myspace just go to music and type in "rock and rule" it should be there on a profile.

  • Wouldn't want to mess with this guy.

  • When I go to college, I am SO renting this to watch with my fraternity.

  • Have not heard this song in 25 years. Thank you!!!

  • i can't tell you how much i love this movie... watching it makes me feel like a kid again, it was a favorite of mine :)
