Ha! The first one to comment! I have trained with Rich and totally recommend Senshido. I've used the shredder twice in reality and got great results....in other words....I survived with no injury and the other guy was dispatched without any serious physical harm coming to him.
@Usag1Yoj1mbo I wonder what's stopping the bad guy from doing this to you at the same time. Because I've seen guys who can put up with quite a lot of pain, so if it's just pain you're inflicting... I'm not sure it works reliably
@ennot . What's stopping him is that he's always reacting to your actions. Remember, "action always beats reaction". As long as he's chasing you during the shredder, you always have the advantage because he simply cannot anticipate what you are going to do next. Yes some people can take a lot of pain, but try resisting your eyes being violently gouged. Human defensive mechanisms do not allow us to ignore such an act on our eyes. I've used it for real and got great results.
1) I agree that you can not normally ignore damage to the eyes, but it is damn hard to get to them if the person is moving. It's hard to hit the head squarely, let alone poke an eye. A smallest turn of the head and you'll miss and get the forehead or cheekbone instead. Not reliable
Also, what about his friends? A punch takes seconds, and if he's down, he stays down for a while. This takes a lot more time and if you're interrupted, he's back in business immediately.
@ennot . You can come up with as many "what if" scenarios as you like. The shredder doesn't focus solely on the eyes, it attackes all vulnerable point on the body in a close quarter position. If he has friends, you can use the shredder to control one person, use him as a shield from the other guy, dispatch him and then focus on the other threats. A punch is great but no good if you can't actually hit your opponent with it, not to mention hand injuries that can result.

@ennot . What you need to understand is that the shredder is something completely new to martial artists and it is totally different to how people think self defence should be. I can tell by your questions that you haven't been in many real world violent situations, if any, and are probably looking at self defence from a "sport" perspective. This is a common misconception. Rich Dimitri is one of the worlds leading self defence experts, I highly recommend a seminar with him.
@ennot . Additionally, should you attend one of Rich's seminars, he will allow you to test the shredder on you. He is one of the few, if there are nay other I don't know, self defence instructors who will ask the biggest members, or anybody attending his seminars, to attack him as hard as they can and he will use the shredder on them. As far as I know no-one has successfully beaten him yet. I have used the shredder for real and was hugely successful, I totally recommend it.
