What I don't understand about this scene is that th way a laser system works is that it knows if anything comes into contact with the beam. Therefore, the artifacts precise location and size are programmed into the system. Now, the museums floor plan cannot stay that way forever, so there must be a way to add new objects to the laser field system.

So why didn't any of them just take advantage of that?
