at 5.00 did i hear that correctly any military force is subject to the most extreme of psyclogical problems correct me if im wrong please. His professional recomendation is that Lariam DEFINATLY should not be prescribed to these individuals EH - dosent add up
Turns out the american biochemists have no Idea how the drug actualy works! It was just one of the most effective to use biologicaly -er how it effects other organs eg. brain neurofunctions is anybodys guess nobody knows until the experts know exactly how the drug works- thats my opinion
I was part of the drug trial in east timor in 2000 took the drug for 6 months as many others did. There was no regular monitoring of the side effects it was just statistical biological work eg. u got malaria or u didnt. Soldiers were discharged medicaly upon return to oz kidney problems etc etc etc. All paperwork in med docs vanished ADF stated no more use of the drug.
Took it while in Iraq. Scary shit. And all the docs said it did nothing to us. Like they were trained to say it.
Actually had a phamasist question me about it. When I was in Honduras. They asked what pill I was useing for anti malaria. And I said mefloquin. They about had a shit.
I was a healthy 40 yo male. Mefloquine nearly destroyed my life. The first time it caused no significant side effects - just the usual sleeplessness, and I completed the course of six tablets with no lasting effects. So I thought it was safe for me. A few years later I used it again. On the 3rd tablet I developed major depression and lost 20kg within 2 months. It has taken 5 years to get back to (almost) normal. Still suffer from tendonitis, ears ringing, etc. Mef: invented by the devil himself.
i took lariam while serving in the peace corps, and had to leave early because of the serious, serious side effects. mefloquine was originally intended to TREAT malaria, not PREVENT it, so it's too strong a drug to be given out as a propholaxis. i have had a myriad of medical problems that all can be traced back to lariam. if you have another option (which most people do), DO NOT TAKE LARIAM!!! even if it is just a small percentage of people who have a bad reaction, it's not worth the risk
I am a victim of mefloquine use. I took 2 doses and it destroyed my life for 6 years. Still have symptoms after 9+ years. Our troops are being used as guinea pigs here in the USA. And peace corp volunteers are suffering greatly. Watch "Taken as Directed" for more info.
