There is more than one mean here for the word straight.

He probably means straight as in 'an ordinary bloke', normal, or if you prefer, boring. Straight also means drug free. It could mean physically straight, as he had been left disabled by polio as a child. If you like it could also mean hetrosexual.

Either way he is clearly being sarcastic.

@UncleSlim64 Hes not a Geordie mate...it was all a put-on by him. His mother was upper middle class and hios father was a working man (mostly a bus driver and cheuffuer). He wanted people to think he was a hard man because of his disabilities so put on the accent.
