  • @leon010 Screen tearing? Doesn't that only happen with real time rendering if the moniter refresh is out of sync with the games refresh? Shouldn't happen with this vid, but I'll take a look.

    Its to do with the HQ videos your uploading onto youtube.

    nothing to do with your work dude, its youtubes low HQ quality.

    You can notice it only for a few frames, nothing reflective of your work.

  • I think it was really well done and absolutely no doubt it would have been nice to have that in the actual game!

  • yeah, so now that you have the camera pulled back to really see the jump, i'd still say the fall of the jump is too fast. But the animation is looking really good. nice poses and whatnot.

  • Good stuff as always. The no sound is a little weird, but I'm sure you're gonna add that. All in all, it looks natural. Maybe have more of a stop when Freeman falls? Like more of a "That hurt"

  • @Extra365 His head is actually a camera :) I'll show you the rig in one of the tutorials. In fact, Ill doa tuhtorial on hwo to make the rig yourself :)

    say, just a question, you know those blocky quake 3 engine models? you know, the ones tht look kinda shitty but are still rel easy to make an and animate and whatnot?

    can i animate those the same way youd animate with the source engine? or considering that there re limitations, would it be easier, or harder?

  • @Extra365 it would be the exact same, I would say , just b/c a model is low polygon count doesnt mean its easy to animate, it's basically 100% identical

  • @thejazzman9475 ok, because i recently bouht a pirated version of maya and photoshop, and ive been wanting to see if i could try to learn how to animate low polygon models. i dont know why, but i just prefer shittier rafics than newer grafics xD

    ive also simply wanted to learn how to mke a simple game on my own. id like to get into the business someday, but since i only have concepts and no expertise on modelling, programing, etc, i decided i might as well learn on my own.

  • Kind of wish a future half-life game would take cues from mirror's edge as far as immersion tricks in first person go. Everything from seeing your reflection to grabbing onto ledges with your arms. It wouldn't have to be parkour or any shit but it would be nice to have controlling gordon be that visceral.

  • Very good looking test, just curious though, on the last couple of seconds where Gordon pulls the up the gun to look down the sight did you intend on having a similar animation to whats used in Modern Warfare for the similarly modeled magnum or did it just end up that way. Either way the animation looks very natural

  • Personally I thought that was awesome, but I agree that when his left hand comes in with the pistol it seems to far apart. Also it might look better if the camera switches to his right arm as he unequips the crowbar and shows him throwing it away or dropping it on the ground..?

    Also, does the bottom of the revolver grip lack texture? it appears to be see-through in a bit here.

  • Not bad, I'd just be careful about how much of the crowbar you show - in real life, you wouldn't hold the crowbar right up to your face, but other than that, it's awesome!

  • I can't distinguish things anymore. When I saw the word "hunter" I thought it was the Left 4 Dead hunter with Zoey (like the Left 4 Dead animation Zoey vs Tank). Oh well, it's awesome either way!

  • I thought the crowbar was a little off in this. I think it makes the arms feel too far apart, especially when Gordan centers the revolver. I also felt the crowbar sort of disappeared rather then it was put away.

    Other then those little details I think this is fantastic :)

  • @DualEagle yeah, it's actually remarkably tricky to get stuff in 1st person looking natural, but I still want it to feel like a gameplay section. Tough balance to strike, hopefully I'll improve as I do it. Trying not to draw attention to all the realities of weapon switching, b/c Gordon might be using some other weapons later on and I don't want ppl thinking about it too much, just gunna go 'game logic!'. Thanks for wathcing

  • @R1pperAnthon I only got chance to play the demo so far, but I'm definitely going for an immersive 1st person feeling, like mirrors edge, so yeah :) I think the Bioshock infinite trailer also had an impact in some dark corner of my brain

  • @Hermoor some use it but it's quite expensive, I think uncharted 2 has some per object blur and I know you can get some lovely blur in crysis. Source engine actually has blur too but as far as I'm aware it's screen blur rather than object blur.

  • God I wish I could do this :O I do have xsi mod tool but that's just for quickly making models and exporting to an engine I believe. Still I want to be able to rig a model and animate it and then put that into source. That would be awesome! Yet I have no idea how to do that when it comes to decompiling and QC's etc... Still you're doing great!

  • Not saying this is a bad thing, but you're animations are very jumpy and jiggly. That works fine with Dance Fortress, with the others, for me at least it feels a bit strange.

  • @ThSeriousGuy I agree, really it's just the style I've cultivated so it happens naturally, but I'm making this video more grounded ideally, so hopefully it won't end up looking cartoony. If it does, then I will try and tone it down.

  • @GordonFrohman456 have you done cgi before, remember constructive criticism means you're pointing out flaws for the good of what your criticizing
