  • If I was Frodo I would have just woken up and asked her to go out and sing...

  • This was a bit too long to put in one comment so I put in three – or, I guess four, if you count this one ;-)

  • I did not get the chance to see the musical live, nor have I heard Rosalie Craig sing this piece, so I can't give a biased opinion. Having read the books a few times, and having studied the description of Arwen, I imagined Arwen's voice to be soft, quiet and sweet with a gentle lull. But please do not get me wrong – Carly Street's voice is very beautiful(I have been singing most of my life, and I can tell that she has a very good voice), and . . .

  • . . . I would not by any means use the word "belting" to describe what she is doing here – it sounds to me, as with some people I know, that she has a naturally loud singing voice. It is an extremely beautifully done piece, and it is obvious that her heart is in it – one of the biggest factors that makes a good singer, or in her case, an excellent one. This is just a different tone quality than that which I would have expected Arwen's voice to have . . .

  • ...(and I think part of the problem is that the audio of this video is not the best for showing off her voice). However, thank you very much for posting – I wish I had known about this musical in time to see it live, so this is a nice chance to see what it was like. On another note, does anyone know when and where this show will be touring in the United States? All I've heard is that it is supposed to be sometime in 2011. Now that it is 2011, does anyone know if that tour still planned?

  • @SnowySpiritRuby

While I have never been trained to sing, I still have sang in stage productions albeit in small town america; one thing I can tell you is that she isn't belting its called projecting. Its where you force yourself to speak(sing) to the very last row of the audience so naturally with the microphones and everything else its going to be alot louder than expected. Having seen this in London and sitting in the on the second level I have to say I could hear every word.

  • @KadiaSeren Thank you. That was the word I was looking for.

  • Comment removed

  • I hopes this will touring

  • This is not Arwen.

    More like Eowyn.

  • @crystalarwenstar No, it's Arwen.

  • its good but she has to bring it down a key

  • Although this is a beautiful song, Carly Street does not do it justice. I think the timbre of her voice is much too harsh not only for this song, but for the character of Arwen in general. When I think of Arwen, I think of grace and beauty, which this voice does not convey in the least.

  • Yes they are coming to the US next year!!! I am soo excited!!!

  • @Musicgurl39 REALLY?! WHERE?!

  • @PrInCeSsFBi45 I bet they will go to New York first and major cities like that, but Hopefully they come to Gamage, so that i can see them!!! :]

  • @Musicgurl39 YES!!!! *jigs* Do you know when????!!! I'm trying to think of where in NY they could put on a show though cus most of the places are big but Drury Lane is HUGE.

  • @PrInCeSsFBi45 I don't know the exact date, but sometime next year, I guess it depends on when they get the actors,a dn stuff over here, and they are done with it in Drury Lane. Which is an awesome place btw.. :]

  • @Musicgurl39 Have you heard anything more about their U.S. tour?

  • @SnowySpiritRuby No I haven't I was going to go and check it out either today or tomorrow. Did you?

  • @LittleMermaid241 No, I haven't heard anything. That's why I was wondering.

  • is it just me...or does Frodo look adorable in this scene?!!

  • Very beautiful...At the edge of darkness...I cannot stop listen it!

  • I love this musical, and hope to see it again. The cast was great in London and I am excited to see what they will do here in the US!!!! :]

  • @Musicgurl39 R they bringing it to the US??!!!!! That would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lord of the Rings musical is one of the biggest disappointments...

It only lasted 9 months in Toronto before went offstage.

  • @kevinmsft well its doing a world tour next year

  • @kevinmsft you should have seen the london production! it must have been the best musical i have ever seen!

  • why can't i find the cast recording for the toronto version? is there none?

  • was this in the states eveer?

  • Amazing! 5/5

  • they made it sound asian and of the native peoples of earth because on earth those are the oldest civilizations. i think its a great adaptation and that this troup should release their movie and soundtrack of the musical in america.

  • why did they make everything sound native american and asin. nothing agenst that sort of music but not for lord of the rings!!! go for something celtic and for goodness sake arwen should have a higher voice insted of that weird mixed belt thing going on

  • what are you talking about. This is not native american. The music is folk - north west european.

  • I totally agree... this doesn't sound anything remotely like Native American... nor Asian. The harp may be remind a bit of Asian instrumentation but this doesn't have an oriental flavor in it either. And it is missing that heartbeat that would be inherent of Native American rhythm. I do hear European medieval overtones to the music though. I don't know what CrazySingingNote is talking about.

  • i like the fact that they tried something completely different.

What they did in the movies is exactly what i would have imagined, but i like this very much as well. I even think it fits, it's just different from what i would have expected.

  • I agree, I'd like to hear a more enchanting voice. But I'm pretty sure the creative team's goal for this production was to sound as earthy as possible, which she is

  • Wow... that's quite interesting... so true... this could be interesting to have a Arwen sounding like more Enya or Lorena Mckennit... this could be interesting... hehe

  • Um...really? If they were even going to attempt this as a musical then maybe they should have gone with a less belty sound in all their femaie singers. Thats just my opinion. A more celtic women sound would have been better for arwen and I thought the queen of the elves was supposed to almost sound like a man so what is she doin belting high notes. Once again, just my opinion.

  • I completely agree with you.

I am not so fond of this woman's voice, I don't find it pleasing or enchanting at all.

  • I actually find her voice very lovely. It sounds pure and from her heart. She's not worrying about how good ver voice sounds, she's singing with emotion.

  • How could I have (or at least listen to...) the whole song???... Man this song, just fascinates me!! all the time when I listen to it... I get some sort of... goosebumps!! it's really something!!

  • omg your right...i just got ambushed by a swarm of goosebumps...they just appear out of nowhere <3

  • I prefer the song by Rosalie Craig actually.. no offense to Carly!

  • where can i watch the entire musical?

  • Pretty,

But the Real Arwen is better!

  • which real arwen? the original portrayed one from the film or the other musical one from London, Rosalie Craig? Cause Rosalie is 10x better than this.

  • Toronto is the original production, where it had it's World Premiere. They closed in Toronto then reworked it for London.

  • DO the orcs sing, too?Heavy metal or grudge.

  • Nice idea but no, they don't

At one point, they shout something in Old English, but no singing as such

  • i want to go see the show but i can't :(

  • That's so beautiful, it's like Arwen's helping Frodo heal with her singing :)

  • cna you guys PLEASE sign the petition to make this into a dvd , (like cats.) Go into google and type go petition, Click on the link and go into quick search and type lord of the rings on dvd and click the right link and sign the petition. it doesn't cost a thing.

  • NUNDERST: signed the petition....:D

  • im signing it tonight

  • Who is that on the bed and whats happend to him D=

  • Its Frodo recovering in Rivendell after the Witchking stabs him.

  • Need lyrics!!!

  • Undulávë ilyë tier lómë

    i falmalinnar imbë met oialë.

  • Thank you so much!

  • :'( MAKES ME CRY...

    THANK YOU...

  • what does it mean?

  • All paths are drowned deep in shadow; and out of a grey country darkness lies on the foaming waves between us, forewer.

  • If you loved this show and want to see it again or if you never saw but do, do your part and go to "go petition lord of the rings" (type it into google) and sign the petition for a dvd to be made, please, ur signature will make a difference, :)

  • HURRAY to you!

everybody thinks your spamming, but that is PUBLIC service!

  • AND, if you can, support the theatre if you can and go see the live performance. Made sure to see it while visiting London (lots of saving)... best thing ever. You could watch the dvd 100 times and the trilogy 700... nothing will ever be anywhere near close to the real experience.

  • The show closed back in July.

  • I know, isn't it sad. BUT - The producers do plan to open a German production and tour in the far east and Australia, I hear. That is exciting!

  • gud voice but sure doesnt sound 'gently sturring' if i was frodo i wud have woken up n gone 'IM TRYIN TO SLEEP' the londond ones much more gentle with this song she kinda belts it out this one tho :/

  • Haha, yeah. I love the Elves, but Bilbo had the same problem when he first went to Rivendell. Sindarin lullabyes can nearly wake the dead, apparently. :P

  • Go on the go petition website and type in the quick search 'LORD OF THE RINGS STAGE SHOW DVD' and sign the petition to get it released on dvd! When you get the URL, PROMOTE IT!

  • how long is the musical?

  • I think I heard somewhere that it was like 2 or 3 hours.

  • I saw it when it was in Toronto. It was a good 3 hours long. A really wonderful musical though. Not as good as The Lion King of Phantom of the Opera but the music just stirs me. I still get goosebumps when I hear the songs.

  • I heard that its about 3 hours long.

  • I never saw this it look awesome i must go now,

  • It's strange...I studied Elvish briefly, apparently not well enough. Estelle...( which was one of Aragorn's alias's) is the Sindarin word for hope supposedly. I don't see it in those Lyrics, yet the mention the word Hope. I don't mean to sound like a kill joy or a nerd, I ADORE this song as Elvish tends to soothe me like nothing else, just curious. Can anyone that " KNows" elvish somewhat fill me in? Thanks!

  • Este means hope if that's what you're wondering about..!

Does she sing in Elvish in the begging?? If yes, then she doesn't have a good accent... I've studied Elvish (mostly Quenya) and I can understand many things but that's...I don't know... But she looks noway as beautiful as Liv Tyler and I'd like to have some opinions on that!

  • Actually why don't you message me and I will give you my e-mail adress...I used to know more elvish then I do now, I'm not using it as much. Yes that's definately elvish in the begining and her accent isn't bad...it might be sindarin as that's what grey elves spoke..different words and accent. If you listen you can hear different accents in the movie.. Haldir and Galadriel for instance vs Arwen or elrond. She's human beautiful bye the bye...any one can be elven beautiful with air brush. lol

  • Yeah I know... I just remember that Sindarin didn't sound this way in the movies.. Anyway!

I wasn't able to see her well from this video..!

  • I found out that they translated some Elvish Words for this musical into Turkish Variations/ Swedish/ Finnish Etc. Because of copyright reasons apparently

  • It's good, but not as good as the London one. She does go flat quite a bit.

  • so this is from toronto

  • Yeah it is, I think Roaslie Craig, is the name of the one in London, the whole London show, by thw way, is spectacular. Go and see it before it shuts!

  • I like her voice...i think she's great! :D

  • WOW...

    I DIDN'T KNOW THIS MUSICAL...

  • She goes flat a lot.

  • i wish someone had the lyrics to this. it's lovely.

  • Undulave ilye Tier lome Ar caita mornie sindanoreiello Ifalmalinnar imbe met Oiale At the edge of darkness Hope is whispering still Tender, unerring Gently stirring Memories unfurling in the mind. Warm wind from a far, forgotten country. Long left behind
  • Where dit you get this?

Do you also have the lyrics of the song of sam and frodo in the musical?

I have been to that musical and it was wonderfull.

I am dutch so it is difficult to understand what they sing in the song of frodo and sam. do you know where I can find the lyrics?

  • If you were on musical there was soundtrack there to buy, and there are also lyrics. I`ll write it when I return home

  • Really? I like Carly Street. She's really ethereal in real life too.

  • she is practically screaming it at frodo

i dont like her i prefer rosalie craig!

  • yay. I suppose this will have to hlod me over until my copy of the soundtrack arrives! (10 days and counting). Many thanks!

  • wait.... arrives where??? in the US????? please say yes... i've only been able to find the soundtrack in the UK and you have to have british money to buy it. :(

  • Yes. I ordered my copy off of Amazon.

  • This is definitely Toronto, but it's still in the London version of the show, and on the CD. And yes, Rosalie makes it sound much more lovely.

  • I don't like her voice at all,

I much prefer rosalie's voice from the london version.

  • this is in the london version...i sor it the other day

  • amazing, isn't it! this particular version isn't london, she's good but roaslie craig is way better!

  • Yeah, why doesn't this preform in the U.S? Phantom of the Opera did so this one should to, I would deffinately go see this.

  • So that is toronto not london

  • What is the title of this song ?

  • i dunno, i saw this today i think it got cut out of the london version :(

  • Thats a real shame!

Guess it wont be on the soundtrack either then :-(

  • I haven't seen the show, but this scene is definitely in it. The song's on the cast recording, and there's a picture of this scene in the booklet that comes with the cast recording. It's "The Song of Hope."

  • i guess its in the torronto version because its not in the london version at all

  • I prefer Rosalie Craig as Arwen!

  • Got the soundtrack its called Song of Hope

  • does anyone know were to buy the soundttrack? i cant find it any were online or at any store. i live in the usa in california.

  • WHY DID IT HAVE TO CLOSE IN TORONTO? And WHY hasn't it been performed in the US?!!

I want to see this SO BADLY.

  • Realgoodfan10: I do not know about the healing, (as Frodo was healed by Lord Elrond I doubt it-- good idea though), but I can tell you that these lyrics are from the poem "Namarie".

  • WOOHOOOOO ! got the soundtrack thru today!! it's SOOOOO good!! I'm so happy!!! xxx

  • were did u get it? i cant find it anywere

  • i really wish this wasn't cut. is that the end of the song does anyone know? i guess i'll know soon enough... my cd's in the mail! WOOP WOOP!! xxx

  • this is awful

  • I love her voice.

  • I want to londom only to see this!

  • exactly

  • NO OFFENCE: i love the book and the film and i havent seen the musical but i saw this now and have to say for myself i do not like this ladys voice , sorry

  • she wasn't belting anything, Mr.Tone deaf :-P

Its Lord of the Rings of course there are singing elves.

  • another randomly belting elf!

  • it's arwen...not a "randomly belting elf"

i love her voice, it can be soft, as arwen should be, but she also has a power to her voice, which i think is important for her character

  • Undulávë ilyë, tier lumbulë

    ar caita mornië, sindanóriello

    i falmalinaar imbë met

    oialë

Now you guys figure the English part.

  • lol couldnt fit everything into one comment so did it in 2 :P

although now its three cause i just explained that :S

    oh well lol

  • i was a huuuge fan of the book, first had it readt to me by my mum when i was 7 =p

and when i heard it was being made into a musical i thought it was gunna be absolute bollacks

but i went and saw it with an open mind

and i can honestly say it does the book total justice

  • sure they left some bits out, but they left some bits out of the films and they are 2 hours long if you put all 3 extended versions together so it had to be accepted that they couldnt do it all in a 3 hour show

    and they cut it cleverly,

its amazing cat wait to see it again!!

  • Lyrics are from the poem "Namarie," with one of those double dot dohickeyes over the first 'A'. :D

  • Umlout..I think that's how it's spelt...double dot dohickie

  • i heard about a college class teaching students to speal an d write lord of the rings elfish but i dont take it

  • even though i couldnt understand the elvish part this song still made me tear up;-(

  • Sorry I can't understand elvish........

can anyone tell me what is she singing?

  • I don't understand Elvish, either, but maybe she's singing the same thing in each language? It seems possible...

  • I think so, she does mention darkness, something about time and place and... yeah I only know a few words.

  • Well, "Namarie" means farewell, so maybe she's singing about going to the Grey Havens or something.

  • I think that it is to do with helping Frodo heal. She seems to be pulling out the spiritual infection caused by the black riders.I'm going by movements as I can't understand elvish.

  • ps I was thinking of the movements done in the London show. Not shown in this video.

  • is this song not cut from the london rewrite? xxx

  • yep, its boring so it got cut from the london show

  • no. I have seen this about 70 times. It's right after the water washes the black riders away. x

  • man, this is a beautiful song.

i wish that, like other fans, the music throughout was more celtic than broadway. still, it would be really cool to play Arwen.

I mean-how could they turn me down? lol.

  • is it just me or does any one else feel the big arse pillow behind him is way to big for a hobbit to need

  • not large for an Elf

  • yay... three comments in a row by me... doesn't anyone watch this and comment? LOL

  • tears rolling through my face...

  • What's the name of this song?

    Are there lyrics anywhere?

I only understand the mornië part, aside from the English bits.

  • Those people leaving negative comments seem to be peolple who just aren't fans of musicals and feel that turning such an amazing story into a musical trivialises it somehow. If you don't like musicals then of course you wont like this, but for me (a big fan of the form) this show just takes my breath away! And those fans of LOTR, take it as a compliment to the story that someone has taken the time to turn it into such a spectacular show! xxx

  • I think that this is just beautiful! Carly Street's voice suits the song so perfectly for me! Though Rosalie Craig is deffinately my favourite Arwen! xxx

  • I prefer Calry Street, and you are absolutely right about Street's voice!

  • Is there a dvd or soundtrack for this??? if so, I want it!!!

  • I love how they do Shelob, it was actually really scary! Haha and yes, the Balrog was amazing, I love how you could smell fire, and in Lothlorien toy could smell flowers....

  • The musical is GREAT! And the part with the Balrog is so...awesome! All the lights go off, and then this birght red light turns off and paper flies towards the audience and then there is roaring and Gandalf dissapears. There is a bright flash of light and then everything goes dark! =D

  • well, why not, bookwormbeauty? They've just as much right to make a musical as they have a movie, or an opera or a ballet. It's such an awesome story, so why not interpret it for the stage? He he, this had better come to Australia, I am so going to see it!

  • i thought the guy who played sam in the musical was amazing

  • I love LOTR, iv seen it twice and James Loye (Frodo) is sooooo gorgeous! I met him!

  • i wish i saw the musical.. i want like a soundtrack or sumthin.. i luv it..

  • Hey, is there a CD recording of this musical? This is just gorgeous.

  • I like her voice, there is something elvish about it.

  • Beautiful! Thanks for uploading!

  • they made it a musical - why?

  • because they can

  • because it's the most beautiful story ever!

  • I really wish now, that I had gone to see this when it was in Toronto... however... I was broke lol.

This is very pretty and I've enjoyed listening to it.

    Does anyone have the lyrics?

  • Does he's it Aragorn who are in the bed?

  • Actually, it's Frodo. ;)

An interesting point though. Watching this scene out of context and all (full screen mode, bad resolution) he really could be mistaken for Aragorn. Funny, I never realized it until now.

  • I recommend it to anyone, go in with a negative attitude and you will find yourself looking at possibly all the bad aspects, such as the story not being accurate, but who cares, go in with a positive attitude, and you will come out a happy person.

I thought the music was amazing, and I have confirmed that this is now officially my favourite west end show!!!

  • This isn't the West End version!!!!

Many of these longwinded songs are not included in our version!!!

    Our version, is AMAZING!!

And I really don't care for these negative comments, because if you go in there to be amazed, and without comparing it to the films or the books, you will come out a happy person. I couldn't keep my mouth closed all the way through it, and i couldn't take the smile of, of my face for a long long time. So I'd say that

  • this musical is an embarrassment and insult to Tolkiens LotR

  • screw you

  • her voice isnt graceful. this music isnt elvish. how did tolkiens publisher come to sell them the rights to his beloved story?! this is not imladris. this is not tolkien. Howard Shore captured it. these guys didnt.

  • You don't like this musical at all, do you?

You post negative comments on all clips from this musical.

Is there anything positive things to say?

  • this is absolutely beautiful.

    her voice is amazing.

i want to see this so badly!

is it going to come to america??

  • It's no better in London!

  • They don't have any clips on theatre 24/7 don't let the spammer guys fool any of you. All there was on there is a review of the show from the people running that site. Otherwise, it's a dull site.

  • Her voice isnt right for the character...at all.
