You won't read about "Indian" massacres in the U.S. history books only "manifest destiny" and the dates of Indian territory becoming "states". Damn that sux!
my great great grandmother was a survivor of the Sand Creak Massacre... her name was singing water... necii niibeihisei... its hard to sit and hear the things these soldiers did to my people... and commandersheperd your an idiot... lol... what a sad pitiful man... but anyways... what a powerful clip!!
Wow, this Col. John Chivington who massacred the Cheyenne women and kids was a genocidal asshole worse even than the others of that period. Cowardly, stupid, and a liar, and then when that Capt. Soule from Maine testified against him, Chivington had Squires murder Soule. (Funny how Brits and Americans attack other countries for atrocities but overlook their own.) Nice to know that Chivington became a loser after that- failing in politics, business, everything else.
If we don't all get along...this is what you get, lol DUH!
Yet even today, here in this very response section we see people with differing opinions attacking each other with venom and hatred and generalizations...It's just plain stoopid. Live and let live. Or we shall all shurely die.
What a sickening disgrace. What's wrong with this country is the government that runs it. Such a beautiful people were wiped out for no good reason but what is meant to shine will shine.
Um let's not forget, that it takes a citizen's hand to pull the election tab, and a local boy in uniform to squeeze the trigger... the main perpetrator OF the violence- same thing in Iraq and Afghanisatn and Pakistan today (yes "american" troops are in Pakistan today, too.
If you think the average citizen has any control over what goes on, think again. Pulling an election tab won't mean a thing since both parties have an agenda, which rarely benefits the average citizen. A handful of people in government call all the shots, that's how it is in the world.
No- that's how it is in AMERIKKKA... a place that calls itself a democracy. In REAL democracies this doesn't happen. People actually VOTE directly for their leader, out of various candidates from MULTIPLE parties and every law during his/her(YES, HER) term, through referendums. This what you have, is a two-party dictatorship. Ask the average "american" what a referendum means, and they can't tell you for crap. Dont' believe me? TRY it. I already did, as part of a study for Sociopolitics class.
In REAL democracies, like Venezuela, the people actually VOTE directly, for an array of candidates from MULTIPLE parties and for the laws that come into play during his/her (YES,HER) term. People in real democracies KNOW the word referndum, it is an everyday word, a "household name", instead of the household names you have here, to distract everyone from the fact that there is no democracy i.e.Brittney, Paris, Dancing, Desparate, Idol, etc. The Haudenuasaunee concept of the structure of democracy
was contorted by the american colonialists to facilitate the suppression and manipulative hand in outcomes that the monarchic dictatorships did BACK HOME IN EUROPE WHERE THEY CAME FROM, no matter what the desire of the people. Yes, altogether "america" can use a few lessons on CIVILIZATION and HUMANITY. I see how you omitted the truth on the local military boy, in your rationalizing rebuttal.
omission in this case...wisely done. Because there are just some things that CAN'T be argued against, like the mathematical ends of a chess board. Lacking that in mind, is the number one flaw of "americana".
I see your Panamanian. Funny, but Panamanians have migrated to America. Why would they forsake their wonderful democratic country of Panama to do that? Too bad they didn't stay where they were. They probably all whine like you do. And if you don't live here, you haven't earned the right to complain, have you? Trying to tell me I live in a dictatorship? Gee, don't you think we all know that here? A true democracy is "for the people". We live under a new form of Naziism now. Bush is Hitler.
The Sand Creek massacre was of course hideous, but contemporary accounts uniformly ignore the fact that it was in retaliation for the cold-blooded murder of ranch worker Nathan Hungate, his wife and 2 young daughters a few days earlier.
The Hungate murders were one of a serious of incidents that contributed to the Sand Creek Massacre. The Indian Plains War of 1864, skirmishes between white settlers and Indians, the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, the drought during the summer of 1864, a flood that swept through Denver City, a breakdown in communication between Governor Evans and the Cheyenne people, Evans' and Colonel John M. Chivington's desire to be in Congress, etc.
this attack was planned out well in advance, if they wanted someone for murder they could have gone into camp and investiated, this was a us flag flying band that ould have talked it out first. thanks God lt soule blocked the attackers rom kilng all the fleeing tribe survivors.
was planned. The fact that it was retaliatory in no way implies it was spontaneous. Of course it was planned! It was revenge, pure and simple. A total fucking over-reaction, but it was not done simply on a whim as those who fail to point out its retaliatory nature imply by that failure.
no kool aid rinker, you said the attack was for the murder of a family only a few days back. the attack was planned before this guys murder so it wasnt for revenge of it. it was for chivingtons hell bent mission to kill idians and get a political office.
Oh yeah!? So what does that mean that "america" deserves for this whole continent? For Wounded Knee? For Powder River? For Potawatami Valley? For the Pequot Massacres? For the Wampanoag Massacres? For Grenada? For Honduras? For Haditha? For Laos? For the 4,000 civilians of Panama in 1990? For the Massacre of Ponce, Puerto Rico? For Nagasaki? For Hiroshima? For My Lai and NUMEROUS other massacres in Vietnam- Oh yeah, 60,000 americans got what they DESERVED in Vietnam. Yet so little so far still...
@dhgate2 The Sand Creek massacre was of course hideous, but contemporary accounts uniformly ignore the fact that it was in retaliation for the cold-blooded murder of ranch worker Nathan Hungate, his wife and 2 young daughters a few days earlier -+= after all is said and done you are what you do. Ill leav you with that.
Thank you for posting this I am Cheyenne. It is sad what was done to my people then. Yes Black Kettle Was flying the American flag he thought if the soldiers saw it they would not attack and know that he was a friend of the great white father in washington
i have studied the sand creek massacre. it is one of the worst attacks on native americans. many women had their vaginas cut off and displayed as a hat and some impaled and paraded around. i know there was also an infant that was drug to his death. i had to put down the book i was reading several times to cry. it is disgusting how human beings can be so cruel to one another.
don't embellish! We have to tell the truth, where is the evidence? I know it was cruel and a massare, but please stick to the facts. I'm part Cherokee and many things have been fictionalized to make White men demons, and they were, but an accurate history must prevail....
Wgat Olivetree93 said is true, they took their horrible trphies of the massacre and displayed them, it on the historical record. What to know what it was like? Check out the movie Soldier Blue.
Black Kettle had been given an american flag, and was told that as long as he flew it, no soldier would ever hurt him. He flew the flag, whereupon all the elders, women, and children gatherd around him. Then the soldiers cut them all down with gatlin guns and scalped them. There were no men to protect them because, to get them out of camp, colonel chivington had said that they could go on a buffalo hunt.
"Soldier Blue" was based on the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers. Although many white people blamed the Dog Soldiers for the Sand Creek Massacre, the Dog Soldiers were separate from the Sand Creek Massacre.
I'm not sure about "Little Big Man." I believe, though, this movies was based on a Cheyenne chief, who was not at Sand Creek at the time of the massacre.
Many early atrocities were shown in the series Centiniel. They were sanitised and no location but it stuck close to the general idea. Plus they left out that Col. Chivilton (ex-Baptist minister) murdered the regular army Lt that refused to engage and murder.
I do remember the movie, "Centennial." You make a good point about it. Colonel John M. Chivington played an integral role in the Sand Creek Massacre, no doubt. Chivington was known as "The Fighting Parson" while his a minister in the Methodist Church. Silas Soule was murdered by someone. Many suspect Chivington paid a killer to do it, particularly since Soule was going to testify about the Sand Creek Massacre the day after he was killed.
Thankyou! More, more, more exposure of this information. US history is not taught in US History class-only half-truths and lies and most of history is omitted-hey,but you can't stop "the wav"-keep talking, please keep talking.
