Absolutely incredible performance. Just came from S & G's version, and have to say that this one has more "soul", passion, and power. Saw both Elvis and Garfunkel live (many years apart of course). Garfunkel has a beautiful voice and enjoyed his concert. Elvis had charisma like no other, and it was a magical experience from beginning to end. Bridge Over Troubled Water was sung live at both concerts, and again, Garfunkels version was beautiful, but Elvis's version touched my soul.

Very rarely are covers better than the original song...and this is no exception. Simon & Garfunkel did it first and did it best. This is good. But the original is the greatest and most beautiful song that I've ever heard.

Well that's you're opinion! I love the quotes by Simon himself:

After he saw Elvis in Vegas perform this song he said to a reporter:

So if he could appreciate it's greatness maybe you can too. fyi, this is not my favorite of Elvis's version of Bridge...listen to one where he is wearing white jumpsuit with silver on it. That is the one that blows my mind with its power and tenderness.

Elvis had a powerful voice and that makes the lyrics believeable. Garfunkel is hard to imagine as "bridge over troubeled water" as he sounds like suicide candidate himself.

He sure did...but then again he also sais Jackie Wilson was the best singer in the world at some point. Elvis loved talented artists and was always very complimentary of his colleagues. To me Elvis was not only the King of Rock and Roll, he was the greates singer/performer in american popular music.

Which Elvis never did do. If anything he downplayed the adulation bestowed upon him. There is that one infamous moment when a group of fans held up a banner that read " Elvis Is The King, " in midsong, he stopped singing and said " I'm not the king, Jesus is the king. " Too funny! Anyway, nice post.

they use to call him the king in the 50s too then he knew how to handle it, it didn't mean a thing to him he knew it was all apart of the hysteria and adulation of the time and only just went along with it!

And I can recall reading in one of the many books about an amusing situation between Little Richard and Elvis back in the late 50's, evidently Little Richard took issue with the stations back then declaring Elvis as the King, so, Little Richard shows up at the gates of Graceland DEMANDING to see Elvis to ' settle this once and for all, ' I'm not dissing Richard here, 4 he was like Elvis, very young at the time, But again, Elvis was bemused by it all. Could've cared less.

Unfortunately in laters years he started taking it a little seriously that was in the 70s if i am correct.. that's was when his mind was being fucked up by the colonel. Under the Colonel Elvis had very little to zero peace of mind!

Thanks for your intro Gibson- glad I found this version, which I totally agree is the best performance of this great song that I've ever heard. Elvis had a great raw edge to his voice on early stuff like Jailhouse Rock, or the '68 comeback special, but for me it's the beautiful and powerful deep baritone he used on ballads such as this one, that make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Where/when was this recorded?

I SO agree with you! Elvis sang this song better than anyone! Such a powerful performance. I don't see how anyone can not be affected after hearng this...I get goosebumps everytime! Thanks for makng this video!
