I want a tactical R25 in .243. The military would have been better suited if it went to something in the .243 range of ballistic performance instead of in the range of the .223 ballistic performance. At least the groundpounders would be better off.
@TheGuyWithAWeirdName After hours of research i've come to the same conclusion. A 7.62x51 can be fired in a .308 win, but not the other way around. However, Remington says not to do it. In fact Remington doesn't even waranty foreign .308 ammo in there .308 chambered rifle! I shot foreign, cheap Monarch, Wolf and Tula Russian ammo in mine and the primers are to hard for the match triger hammer spring (20% wouldn't go bang, the first time). I'm upgrading it to a "Wolff Extra Power Hammer Spring" .
@Sochill247 Buy a DPMS LR308 in black. "WALA!" you have a R25 minus the $200 Remington camo paint. The exact camo color code is "tree stand" they painted it this color because it's a hunters rifle from a company that is known for supplying hunters. They saw a growing market in tactile platform. Hunters were the target for this product. It helps them transition into the tactical market. They have opened a window into the 223/556 ar15 market with this product. Great job Remington/Dpms!
@NRAssociation More than a paint job difference. The remington R25 is chambered tighter for better accuracy and the barrel is stamped .308 Win. only (although it will still fire the 7.62x51, but not recomended by remington), while the DPMS is chambered for .308 and 7.62x51. Also, the remington is lighter than the DPMS.
@hyonjun depending on the range. a 308 win at 1000 yards has the energy of a 357 magnum at point blank. So i would say you could reliably take an elk at about 600 yards. your still delivering with a good load over 2000 ft lbs of energy.
I think DPMS, Bushmaster and Remington are all subsidiaries of the same company, I believe the parent company is known as Cerebrus or something like that so most likely the Remington is actually a DPMS or Bushmaster that has had a few minor characteristics changed and is badged as a "Remington". I guess you can go all Wiki if you want to look it up.
@jettarulz ild take a bushmaster, rock river, or dpms over a colt anyday. colt qulaity control has gone to shit and there guns there producing now adays have fallen far from the pinical they once were when they had guns like the python being produced.
@dp665 That's not true; colt still makes the best ARs. Their quality is just as good as it's ever been, and it's filling the hands of US personnel in 2 different sandboxes overseas.
wrong. colt made the original ar that the millitary used. however back in 2008ish (give or take a year) FN usa started makeing the ar for the millitary when colts contrac ran out.
@dp665 No Hes right. Im serving in iraq right know and the m-16s we carry are colts. The only new rifles purchased buy the military have been the m-4s and Im not sure who make those cause our unit doesnt carry them.
@HillBillyUP2008 the millitry has millions of m16s and m4s theres probaly atleast 2million colts floating around but according to an article in special weapons millitary and police magazine fn usa is making them now.
@tardwhisperer your on crack dude, think before you speak. m4 is the CQB version of the m16 in the military. M4 are not sold to public. Only m4 or m16 rifle u can get is a AR 15 platform which comes in CQB and many other types. M4 and m16 are supplied with selective fire, so full auto.
@fastcabrio, Yes you can buy a M4 rifle and a M16. Find yourself a class 3 firarms dealer pay for it, usually around $12K to $16K, send in the forms to the ATF and wait for approval. I know one person that has one.
at 1:23 why are you showing H&K MP5 subguns while talking about how popular AR platform rifles are?

which one can you hunt bear with?
crazyheatrocker 1 year ago
I like this. Im moving out west soon. Would this rifle be adequate for elk or no?
hyonjun 1 year ago
@hyonjun : Yes this AR-25 in 308 or 7mm08 will work for Elk as long as you don't try to think it is a long range cartridge the gun is chambered for .
Elk will take a beating and keep on running !
Be a responsible hunter know the limits of the cartridge you are using .
For Elk in 308 use a good bullet such as a Barns X 150 grain and for the 7mm08 use Barns X 150 grain bullets also .
You can also get an AR-25 in the new 338 federal that would work great for timber hunting Elk .
