The is th main powerful government called the capitol and there was 13 districts then because of a rebelion againts the capitol 13 was destroyed. so to prove that the capitol is in charge they hold the hunger games where they take a boy and a girl from each of the 12 districts between the ages of 12-18 and force them to fight to the death. if u watch the trailer for the movie it kinda explaines it

Using an established older actress, espcially one who's played a similar part already is simply a cheap (or not so cheap!) cop-out. I really hope that in the movie, Jennifer does what she didn't do in the trailer, and convinces me. Remember I knew nothing of the casting debates until I saw the trailer

@MirandaH96 Simple. It's common in the US to have older actresss playing mid teens but it DOESN'T EVER WORK. It isn't believable. Other countries don't do this half as much. Emma Watson was believable in Harry Potter because she was the age of the character (Okay the differncial grew over the films as they didn't make one film per year). I really hope Jennifer pulls it off, but in the trailer to be honest she didn't convince me she was 16 - in fact that's why I looked up her age online

I thought the author describes Katniss as being dark hair and olive skin just like Gale. This blond actress does not seem to fit the description????

She's not at all how I imagined Katniss. You need someone who's younger and could better look the part. Hopefully the directors can work something out, but I still think she looks too old.

It seems like people who read the books aren't that well informed in good actresses. Cause if they were watching Winter's Bone instead of reading the book they'd know she's a great actress and if she can adapt to that role, she can sure do a character whose traits are already fleshed out.

Suzanne loved the idea of Jennifer playing Katniss. I am a hardcore hunger games fan and as much as I hate the casting for the movie there's nothing I can do. I'm pretty sure Jennifer will do an amazing work. Josh is the one that doesn't convince me,

Jennifer is an ASTOUNDING actress.All you people crying over her age well u guys dont cry over all the people in Glee who are in their THIRTIES playing highschoolers. They do it great. PLUS I saddens me that your upset over the casting when Suzanne Collins herself picked out Jen from the pile. Why would u mess with the authors vision? @MirandaH96 Simple. It's common in the US to have older actresss playing mid teens but it DOESN'T EVER WORK. It isn't believable. Other countries don't do this half as much. Emma Watson was believable in Harry Potter because she was the age of the character (Okay the differncial grew over the films as they didn't make one film per year). I really hope Jennifer pulls it off, but in the trailer to be honest she didn't convince me she was 16 - in fact that's why I looked up her age online

Personally i dont think shes THAT old. (sorry for this example) i think robert looked way to old to play edward yet he still did it pretty well. The casters wouldnt have just choosen anyone. They could of picked someone who looked like the perfect katniss but they might have been really shit at playing her. So just deal with it.
