  • I just purchased a BRKT Fox River with black micarta scales. I am very happy with this knife but am afraid of its durability for bushcraft tasks. Any thoughts?

  • @MrKillbot5 I don't do bushcraft. Only in my hunting experience A2 is the second to 3V in durability. Thanks.

  • I love your videos, thank you for sharing. When you say something is no good, you give the reasons, often just someone's opinion. Thank you.

  • What brand and model was the second knife in this video?

  • @shilohreb It was the Benchmade Bone Collector large folder. Thanks.

  • how did you kill it? what country is that?

  • @ainomoadakine I live and hunt in Japan. I use a bolt action shotgun to kill them. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice What is so important to hunt for the biggest deer? You have disturbed the natural selection by doing so. Is it not more natural to hunt the weakest of the deers? If anyone would kill only the best genes out of the group. Then what will be left of the group after some generations. I think this will weaken the species as a whole.

It shouldn’t be important to have a trophy if this will damage the species.

That's my opinion of course. What is your experience or reasoning?

  • @andrisig33 I am a trophy hunter and I have never thought as you say. What you say sounds correct, but I know the real biggest stag is always hiding. I once met nearly twice as thick antlers as what I own, but I missed it. Since then I have been wanting to meet the real biggest stag again. This is what I think and why I hunt as often and as deeply as possible sacrificing many personal issues. Anyway there are 700 thousand deer and I hunt just 70 deer a season. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice Thank you for your honest words and I'm glad I have given you something to think about. You do mention that you only hunt a very small percentage of the total of 700 thousand deer. How much of that total are male that you hunt for? Another question I have is. You are of course not the only one who hunts and if others like you hunt mainly the male and the biggest deer, then still the impact on the total gene pool of the deer as a whole.

  • @andrisig33 Some like doe to hunt because their meat has less game small and soft. I am a trophy maker as a hobby and keep some memorial ones in my house and give others to my friends. They are happy with it in their house. And I rather prefer the game smell to eat. So I hunt only stag. I hunt 60 stag a season but regular deer hunters hunt only in weekends and they seem to get 10 deer mixed with stag and doe in a season. So the deer are increasing year by year. Thanks.

  • can you pleas show how you shot ?

    arigato !

  • Lone Wolf is also a very good japanese movie series :D

  • I think you are my japanese twin soul: I also love Fallkniven, hunting and german flecktarn uniforms. Nice videos!!!

  • Lone Wolf are great knives!

  • Great work on this subject, very focused and informative. Congratulations on your shika trophy!

  • Congratulations for your biggest price. Would like to see a ral partical use on longhorn, .....but just too dark to filmming, pretty unfortune. However its stll a very great vid, thank you very much and your efforts.

Freedom100fan is right. longhorn has the blade locking problem, beside I think the S30V steel isn't as good as its legend. However it's performs very well on every cutting task. I still think it's a great folder for my best 3 folding knife.

  • Your reviews are the best! I really hope knife manufacturers are paying attention. Thanks for posting your videos.

  • I think you can file your handles off...?

  • Great video as usual! You should check out Zero Tolerance Knives. They are a higher quality brand from Kershaw. I think you would really like them.

  • @kurtross1 Thank you. But I am thinking I will quit collecting folders. The Lone Wolf Longhorn will be my last folder. I understand fixed blades with a convex edge are much preferable for deer dressing. They have very sharp and tough edge. And it is very easy to restore them in the field. I will carry a folder as a backup knife.

  • Thank you for your videos I have enjoyed watching your deer hunting series. Your comments on the two folders was very interesting. Based on what you said and things that I have read I will not get a bone collector for field dressing, it does seem very bulky.

  • @TheM115e Thank you! I forget to say that the Bone Collector was unnecessarily heavy so that my arm was very tired. It's kind of silly to keep holding a bulky and heavy handle with a dull edge. It's my honest opinion on it.

  • lol @ 0:51 "Hmm.. I'll call him with the deer call *whistles* He came!"

Great vid as usual. Really love your knife comparisons and reviews!

  • maybe you should get spyderco's hunting folder the Stretch instead of the benchmade

  • @TheEvrael I have ever used the Stretch. But it was not a good knife for deer dressing because of its shallow belly and its thin handle. This bone collector is also no good knife for different reasons. It's because its handle is too bulky and its weight is so heavy as to make my arm tired. Thanks.

  • quickest phone call in the world - Hai? Hai

  • @DeluxeWarPlaya Yes, it was my office keeping lady just called me. Talking about knives was more important then. Thanks.

  • @DeluxeWarPlaya hahaha like in a movie

  • that is a really nice lookin rack. those front middle tines would make a great gun rack.

  • Sorry, I should have said liner lock.

  • With all due respect, the Lonewolf Longhorn is a dangerous knife. I used to own one. There is no blade retention. With just a shake the blade slips out like a razor. It has a design flaw. There is no nib on the metal frame lock to retain the blade when closed. Try giving the knife a shake and see if the blade comes out then try it with another liner lock knife. Be careful because if you reach into your pocket it will slice your hand.

  • @Freedom100fan the lone wolf US-45 is my favorite lonewolf. and i think its the best designand is just awesome. it has a ball detent on the blade so the retention is top notch, you can try and wrist flick that thing all day and you wont get anywhere.

  • @Wyndstarthedruid I owned one and with just the slightest motion the blade would open. There was no detent on the liner to stop it from opening. I even called the factory and confirmed it was a problem.

  • @Freedom100fan you owned the 45 or are you still talking about the longhorn.

  • @Wyndstarthedruid I'm only referring to the knife in the video.

  • Does the deer call work by making the buck believe a rival buck is in the area, angering him to come toward you to challenge this new enemy, or does it make him think there is an unattached doe close by and comes to make her part of his harem?

  • @sae1095hc In this case how I blew the deer call was to anger him. I blew twice. Then he walked to the closest female deer to me to protect his harem from the other buck, and got my bullet. When I must get closer to him from myself, I will blow much weaker to make him think I am an unattached doe. Deers are color blind.

When I want to make him stop while he is walking or running, just call him in a human voice "Hey" can be okay. Thanks.

  • another great video :)

  • Congratulations on your biggest trophy so far! This series of videos has also been a trophy to viewers like me. I look forward to more deer hunting videos and possibly some cooking videos as well.

  • great video,

thank you very much for the reviews

  • Great vid...now out of all the blades u used so far since the beginning of the season, which are your top 2?

  • @drkknight614 Thanks! The top two are Gunny and Fox River.

  • If I recall correctly, you have the VG10 version of the Fallkniven WM1. Is that correct? If so, do you think the 3G steel would make a difference in edge retention? Perhaps looking at the edge retention of the F1 compared to the TK2 would give some idea, even though they are longer blades than the WM1? I don't know--I am just thinking about loud. I like the WM1 very much and plan on getting one, so that's what prompted my curiosity. Thanks for the videos. And happy hunting.

  • @mz9393mz My WM1 is made of VG10. I didn't like its blade geometry from the factory. It had a micro V edge on relatively deep convex bevels. So it went dull when I only got rid of the micro V edge. Finally it forced me to convex it starting from the spine to the edge. I guess this way is essential for scary sharpness. 3G is a hard steel and expected to stay sharp long. It's a small blade, so I will be able to do it with sand papers, although it will take much time. Thanks!

  • This series of videos has been a treat! I really love the amount of information they convey in a practical setting with a reallife experience. I can only, once again, thank you for the work you are doing.
