Wow, great song, but there's definitely something different between this one and his other songs. I wonder what would have happend with his style in the 80s and 90s.
This track is the most haunting for me. Its use of synthesizers shows how close he was to my generation but sadly he never made it. He died when I was 3 months old.
I wonder why Elvis left in the line "The medicine within me, no doctor could prescribe." when he took out "I take the pills to ease the pain." from the song "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues?"
JD Sumner sang bass and TCB's Jerry Scheff played the bass. Apparently outside of his movie soundtrack Double Trouble in 1967 Jerry Scheff only played bass in the Elvis Presley Blvd 1976 and Moody Blue studio recordings. Norman Putnam and Dennis Linde played bass in the rest of his 70's studio recordings.
I got a deep voice myself. Sometimes I can hit some impressive notes depending on the weather and what I've eaten....but even so....I CANNOT hit that note.
The master of this type of moody song no one can equal this version. With so many imitators still making a living so long after his death,it's got to tell everyone, HE WAS THE KING.
This was the song that really got me listening to Elvis, even though my favorite song from him is suspicious minds. When first heard it I was in complete aw when I listened to it. Great song.
everyone thinks im crazy, but this is my all time favorite song. it just makes me feel good when i listen to it. theres not many songs that make that happen. thats the way you can tell a song is great.
RedOrDead31....Exactly, To me the ONLY bad thing about this song is that it was his latest at the time of his death. Released as a single (With B-Side song Pledging My Love) on June 6, 1977. A fact that so many bring up when they try to say that that's the only reason it was a hit???? Phooey on them!! Itwas a HIT because it deserved to be!!!!!!!!
Great upload...........to all Elvis fans, the website called elvisandhistory (The Kin of Rock and Roll) states that this is NOT Elvis singing this song.............IT IS ELVIS SINGING 100% ....SHAME ON THAT WEBSITE FOR TELLING SUCH LIES!!!!
actually the last to chart in his lifetime..while he was living the song "bubbled under" which means it didnt get into the hot 100 . The week of his death,it sped up the charts into the top 40 and onto the top of the country charts......
It definitely hit number on the Country charts while he was alive. The chart for 13th August (three days before he passesd away) showed "Way Down" at No.1. In the UK, "Way Down" was going up the pop chart from No 46 to No.42 before he died.
It is available on Elvis Gold Records, Vol. 5, Moody Blue, Artist of the Century, Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential 70s Masters, and Elv1s 30 #1 Hits.
Written by Layng Martine, Jr. Elvis recorded it at Graceland on the night of October 29-30, 1976. The bass voice is J. D. Sumner. Way Down had a 17-week stay on Billboards Country chart, being #1 for one week. It peaked at #18 on the Hot 100 Chart during its 21-week stay; and reached #14 on the Easy-Listening chart. It was Elviss last #1 single in the United Kingdom, being five weeks at the top spot. It was a million seller and as the A-side to Pledging My Love.
This song was a far bigger hit for King Elvis in the United Kingdom than in the United States. This song was #1 for 5 weeks in the United Kingdom and this song peaked at #18 on the chart here in the United States. This is one of my most favorite Elvis songs ever. It's such an energetic, electric, exciting, unique and groovy song. Elvis easily has the very best rendition of it. Elvis had a voice like no other. I loved this video a whole lot, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
We must all miss him, I really, really like this, his last release, i've got goose bumps like crazy listening to it, I remember it in the Uk charts, he is the king!
