im trying to figure out how a transmission works. what i notice is that the moving gear just shifts to a smaller diameter gear that allows for the wheel to move faster, right?
You dont need a transmission in planes all they usually have is planetary reduction gears to actually slow the prop down because if it spins faster then the speed of sound the prop will shatter and there was on one radial engine ever made with an even number of cylinders because you cant have 2 firing at the same time or else it runs very very rough and puts a lot of strain on the crank shaft
@DEMA95K he owned the shop (aka his garage),his site was on ebay, but he went back to college and didnt have time for the lego buisness , so bricktechs is no more :(
I used to build much bigger engines with the big sets back in the 80's Lego stuff today is nothing compared with what I had back then. The pistons were square and the engines were bigger and much more detailed. The cars I built were so detailed that they had full on running details including 4 speed tranny, clutch,brakes.steering.suspension and full interior all in the same vehicle that was over 3 ft. long and 16 inches wide. Sdly, none survived to today.
@Zhack2000 *sigh* there isn't a better one, the radial engine is better for planes because it cranks out insane RPMS, The Mazda Rx8 has a radial engine and if you ask anyone who has driven it at high speeds, its pretty much doesn't redline, it just keeps spinning faster and faster.
You see the Y-plate that have the large gear , thee is a small gear that is hidden in that Y-plate.
The engine is powered by the electric motor that goes directly to the dual medium sized gears then to the hidden small gear that is connected to the larger gear placed on the Y-plate. That large gear then powers the stiff 4 gear axle that is connected to the radial engine through a medium-to-small gear.
OMG best trans missionever!!!

the power usally comes from the engine into a transmission not the other way around your drill is on the wrong side

it took me a while to realize we were actually seeing stroboscopic effect and not just a standard turning speed on the motor o.O
impressive.

can you send me the link on how to build the transmission please
TheKilerfuck 6 months ago
you should put the electric motor to the radial, connect the radial to the input, and propeller on the output

Revosgonewild 1 year ago
@Revosgonewild actually the RX8 uses a wankel engine which doesnt use cylinders unlike the radials which have cylinders
bigM10231 1 year ago
@Revosgonewild
it has a ROTARY ENGINE! not a radial engine. look it up.

@damasta04 thats because he has the gears in an inline form. as opposed to the form their in in a car.

Awesome model but does the 4 speeds work?
Because the gear thats shifting does have an input or ouput of power

@ecchibanzaii Oh my mistake i didnt see the gears
f0615388 1 year ago
no, his gearing is correct. the fps on the camera makes it look like the propeller is spinning slower; instead look at the yellow piston

Could you make vid about that engina that has 4 gears? that would be awesome!

@bartdereu I meant that I found it impressive that it was implemented with legos.

i think you had you gears wrong cuz as you went up to fourth the motor got faster not slower
