  • Fantastic version, man! Really good!

  • I love this piece and have decided to try and learn it

to perform at our music school recital in a few months

where I am the oldest performer by about 40 years.

I am not the best, but am one of the few who can actually drive themselves to the recital! (my only bragging rites)

No matter how many times, I hear, I can never grow tired of it

  • hey oldwhtman I did a version of this with the tab you sent me. Not nearly as solid as you masterpeice but it is fun to play none the less! Keep jammin!

  • I envy you for playing this song beautifully. If you'll have the time, would you be so kind to share the picking pattern for this. Thank you! God bless!

  • love it!

  • wow u dont even need to look at your left hand

  • thats a pretty arrangment! i love learning pink floyd songs by ear and transposing them.

  • I'd just like to jam with you on this version... One of my favorite tunes. Happy birthday, Mike.. Kev & Deb

  • @lightningknuckles Thanks, Kevin. I'm in my last year of middle age ... this time next year I'm simply old.

  • fantastic arrangment!!!!!!!!!!!!! outstanding playing as well, thanks for posting this

  • beautiful, thanks man, this song is awsome, but i think this is in piano but it matters a shit, your version is better, thanks man, keep rockin´

  • @irocklalot If you're referring to the sheet music at GuitarDownUnder as piano music, it's not. It's simply standard notation for guitar. I've got a tab version that I've created, but I thought it my be disrespectful of Bill Tyers to post it on my web site.

  • @oldwhtman hey one other question, i dont know if it is how it is in engish but do you really need a "capodastro"? the black thing in your guitar? and in the tabs you use the capodastro or not? thx

  • @irocklalot The capo is not necessary. I use it because I like the higher pitch for this tune. Tab fret numbers should always be relative to the nut of the guitar OR the capo, if it is used.

  • Thanks for your all you great playing. I've really enjoyed your renditions of Aura Lee, Danny Boy, Dawn over Carnarvan and After the Gold Rush. I'm trying them all. I'm an aging aussie beginer. Could you help me out with the music or mp3? myles@bigpond.net.au

    Great work

  • @SuperGuitardad I'm not sure what 'help' I can give you ... from here. But, if you're just asking for .mp3 files of the tunes you mentioned, I can email them to you. As long as your email account allows it. An alternative would be to download a program that allows you to extract the audio track from any Youtube video. I'll email you an mp3 of "Gold Rush" to see if it goes through.

  • I'd love to lay down vocals to YOUR guitar version ... any chance you can check out my channel (ericandlindashelman) and then email me an MP3 of it? Just thought I'd ask . . . excellent. 5* from me.

  • @ericandlindashelman Hello, Eric. If you'd like to use the soundtrack of this video, you're welcome to do so. I'm not sure it's as long the actual song though . . . never measured it. There's software available to download videos and extract the audio track, but I can email you and audio file of this one, if you give me your email address.

  • Beautiful, Thank~you for this!

  • This is a very nice tune. Could you possibly upload tabs for it? I searched your tab gallery on the site, but this one isn't there. By the way, your playing is just awesome.

  • My dad told me to learn this song and this video is truly inspirational

  • awesome !

  • This song is so beutiful

  • i love it

  • Nice job on one of the best "Neil" songs ever.

    Thanks

    Vince

  • Any chance you have the tab/chords for that? Or at least the chords -- then I'll figure out the picking. I can't see where your fingers are. BTW, so AWESOME

  • Click the (more info) link under the subscribe button and you will see a link to the sheet music. It's in the key of D.

  • That was great !!!!!!!!!!!1

  • A+++++

  • superb!

  • really good version. Can you maby send me the notes or the tab?

  • a very great version.

    thanks for the notes.

  • so sad....so beautiful......it's a wonderful song....u are very cool....i can't play the giutar...u are very very good :)

  • i will admit he is talented but im the same

  • draganbreath are u trying to show off the NutsGirl so she goes on ur videos, your a poof

  • Thanks again. It's nice to know someone is listening to something besides "Sadness and Sorrow".

  • Really moving cover, a mile away from my own efforts. I'm filling up, and as a 40+ yr old bloke, that doesn't happen often enough. Your own arrangement?

  • Sorry, just read the intro! I'll check Bill Tyer out. Keep on rockin' ITFW. :)

  • unreal man

  • absolutely beautiful! Great sound quality and technique.

  • this is my favorite neil young song... I play it all the time, it's sad, beautiful and joyous at the same time

  • Sorry for your loss. My daughter lost her mother when she was your age. Only days before starting high school. There's nothing I can say to make you feel better, but over time you will ... and he would want you to.

  • That's a very nice, warm tone you have there. I hope to get a tone as warm as that one day.

  • Mike, you're one of the very performers on YouTube who can play as lyrically as this. It was a joy, thankyou. I heard the Prelude version before Neil Young's so that one is probably my preferred take. Best wishes mate.

  • Thanks, Shaun. Kind words of encouragement like that will enable me to try another tune.

  • Impeccable, not a glitch and your sound burst out of my external speakers with an uncommon clarity and full body. Can I trouble you to share with us your method of recording?

    Five stars

    Thanks in advance

  • Thanks for the comment. I used a Zoom H2 to record the sound. It can be plugged into a usb port and thereby used as an external sound card. This allows me to record directly to the computer. I use the Linux program, mencoder, to do the recording of video and sound simultaneously. If you'd like more details, I'll leave you a message in your inbox.

  • Up bright in early in the US of A! Thanks for such a quick response. I checked the specs on the web site of my local music and electronics provider here in Paris and that thing looks like a one things does all. My only recording to date was done using a Yamaha Silent Guitar plugged directly into my Mac. But now that I bought a Spanish Classical I was thinking I would need a good mike so when I heard your sound I thought hey that sounds really really good. No further details needed, thanks

  • Superb Mike.

Had the lyrics downloaded on a split screen.

    I am hoarse now!!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Thanks, Paul. Does this mean you're going to make a vocal recording soon? I would, but I don't want to lose the handful of subscribers I now have.

  • Well Mike, this is great (even because, or in spite of the shades. Your choice). Neil Young's music is always nice and even more so when it's from you!

Thank you for a great moment in front of the screen.

    Per-Olov!

  • I can tell you're still jealous of my "cool" new look.

  • You got me!

  • Nice and clean, Reminds me of the past, decisions I never took, and ones I should have, --memory

  • Only 21 and already filled with regrets. Don't worry ... it get's worse as time passes and you get older.

  • well played - lovely tune - better without the dubious pathos of young's whining voice.

  • Thanks ... that's why I prefer the "Prelude" version.

  • Great job again, keep em coming, you're doing good. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks. There's more on the way.

  • 5 stars and standing while i light my lighter.randy n miami

  • i was imagining a clear view of the rocky mountains while listening O_O

    its pretty!

  • Interesting. I imagine scenes from "A Apocalypse Now".

  • One of Neil's true classics!

  • One of the few songs that tempted me to pay attention to the lyrics.

  • Simple does it. Beautifull play my friend!

    Kind regards,

    Pascal

  • Thanks. I'm developing a taste for the easier arrangements ... due to my clumsy handling of the more challenging stuff.
