  • I use the same inking style, cool. :) Great work. And the people complaining have no appreciation of the effort here nor have any desire to learn this stuff for themselves. That's part of the fun, kiddos. What, do you want to copy his style EXACTLY? Why not just hire the guy to do your art for you? ;)

  • could please tell me what settings u have on ur brush!!

    thx if u rply!

  • So many people COMPLAINING about a FREE tutorial. Come on, that's just plain ungrateful. Google has made people ungrateful about the accessibility of information. Be grateful that someone is sharing with you. The answers are there if you apply a little brainwork. He's already giving you a free tutorials! Do you want him to hold your hand too?

  • @KiCreativeStudio Thanks a lot, man. People don't understand how much time I spend on creating educational resources. The thing is my blog is plenty of detailed tutorials... they just complain instead of researching. I also have lot of limitations because of my language... so big thanks!

  • @mnpalazzo Since I have my Cintiq I do everything digitally in Photoshop. Thanks buddy :)

  • this doesn't help me at all, how is it a tutorial if it doesn't explain anything. I went to your site looking for answers but they are not there either i guess this is not meant to help people is just a show off your skills.

  • @ngconde25 Did you really check my site? Did you really click on the Blog? Did you really see that I have lot of tutorials, videos and resources there?... No, complaining is easier than researching.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 Yeah, pretty good tutorials man, but out of curiosity, how much time does it take until you're satisfied with a lineart ?

  • @00SOSNewbie00 "Photoshop tutorial: handmade inking (SOSFactory style)" is the name of the video THE VIDEO is not a tutorial sir or ma'am it is a speed draw of a bird character. the video is a SPEED draw. not a TUTORIAL. you may do tutorials. but this however is not. that is what the commenter means.

its easier to put a misleading title then to make an actual tutorial i guess

  • @NetraToraken If you don't master the Brush and Eraser tools I suggest you take a look to the Photoshop handbook... it's the pretty pretty basics. The purpose of this video is showing my inking process.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 i use a program that cost me 50$ cheaper than photoshop.

and if its' to show your inking process then do not put "tutorial" in the title because this is not a tutorial. and i can use to tools you mentioned

explain it in the video. don't make a speed draw and put tutorial in the title

also no matter the fact the title is misleading. the pic is great man :)

  • @NetraToraken Ok, you already gave your opinion... several times on different videos... call it the way you like. I spend my little free time doing educational stuff like this... if you want to contribute, please, send me a private message... if not just enjoy the videos.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 just keep your working sergio, i enjoy your art, and each person has their own way.

  • do u draw all them by hand, scan them and import them into photoshop or do u draw them on the computer

  • @keesso9 Since I got my Wacom Cintiq I do everything digitally.

  • What's better, hand(tablet) or point(mouse) inking?

  • @PabloDarioLi My preference is inking by Wacom Cintiq or mouse, I find really hard to ink with a regular tablet.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 Yes, but inking with mouse is slower than inking with tablet, do you agree? however, the best results I have seen were probably the ones where you used the mouse

  • @PabloDarioLi Not really, standard tablets are not designed for inking or drawing, they are designed to paint or color. If you need a very accurate lineart - like mine - the outcome will be better with a mouse, faster or slower will depends on your skills. Cintiq is the tablet good to draw, until I got mine I always used the mouse to ink.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 What is better to you Wacom Cintiq 21UX or Cintiq 12WX?

  • @Maurobot It depends on your needs. The Cintiq 21UX is more comfortable and the colors are better but also much more expensive, in other hand the Cintiq 12WX is more portable and cheaper but the display is not that good.

  • You gotta change your username from 00SOSNewbie00 to

    00SOSVeteran00......

  • what settings do you use for the brush to have such sharp endings (like the corners)

  • @playdead4fun Just default brushes, check my latest video, there you have some tips.

  • @00SOSNewbie00

I dont know Im trying but mine comes so smooth - i want to have this sharp brush

  • Where do u get the mascots?

  • @3PICM0NT4G3S I create them.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 How do you get the lines to be so sharp on bending points? Is it some special brush? Brush setting? Or something else? I don't get how people get really cool inking lines, mines are shit in PS CS5 using a Wacom Intuos 4 :(

  • @tomichasquad Check my latest video, I give some tips to get smooth lines.

  • Hey sergio, complements of d season. after takin my work 2 illustrator nd tracing, wen i take it back 2 p-shop it loses d clean lines and still pixelate at high zoom. my canvas is 5k by 5k like u said. does it mean vector lines only stay in illust? my eraser does not work in illust. tanx my guru.

  • @deedragon77 When you place an Illustrator file into Photoshop the file is rasterized (convert vectors to pixels). If you feel more comfortable working with pixels (like I do) it´s good, if you prefer vectors then just stay on Illustrator.

Please, use proper English, I´m Spanish and is really difficult for me understanding you.

  • This isn't a tutorial. It's a speed painting.

  • Hey Sergio, please how do you vectorise line art? Much love, U r the MAN!

  • @deedragon77 Hi buddy, I use the Live Trace feature provided by default in Illustrator. It´s very straight forward, Google for some help, if you need help just message me.

  • do you have any of these in real time, would love to see your pacing time.

  • @JuggaloJohn Yes, I have the videos on real time but it´s too heavy to be uploaded. This inking is about 3 hours of work.

  • @AegisKleais Now I draw everything digitally thanks to my Wacom Cintiq, even if I´m going to use vecctors I prefer inking with Photoshop and then I vectorize the lineart, this is easier and less time consuming. Actually I hate Illustrator.

The issue is you drawing with a tablet is a pain you have no lot of control over the paths, if I had a regular tablet I would use the vector tools.

    Thanks!

  • High resoultion? Is there a download or is there something we have to do in photoshop? Like going to Image-->Image size or Canvas size?

  • @cypressaro Sorry, I don´t understand your request.

  • awesome work

  • i see that u use some tablet, but what u can regulate with pen, flow or brush width???i'll buy bambo pen...:)

  • Wow i like your lines how did you get them to be so black like that because when i make a line with my drawing tablet and zoom in the line looks all pixally and not as clean as yours can you help me?

  • @MejshX just use high res canvas, around 5000x5000px.

  • @00SOSNewbie00 Oh thanks can't wait to try it.

  • I just loove your drawing style!

You need to create your own cartoon! :)

  • kewl man...

btw is your pen pressure is on? if yes how many % ? XD

  • how do u get those sharp edges with a default round brush??

  • With high res canvas, around 6000x6000px

  • @00SOSNewbie00 why not 7000x7000? u still didnt answer the question dude...

  • @thedriver2200 You can use whatever size you like, just use high res canvas.

  • are u using mouse on this???

  • You have the reply in the description and 2 comments earlier... please, read.

  • How do you keep the lines so straight.??

  • I use a Wacom Cintiq 21UX the rest is just practice :)

  • i just learned to use the pen tool and now i wanna ink everything! after being frustrated with wiggly uneven lines, i realized i absolutely MUST learn to use the pen tool. the best thing you can ever do is start inking with your pentool. makes you love photoshop. nice clean lines all the time.

its worth learning. actually, its addictive. i brought a tablet thinking i was just gonna start drawing.WRONG! i came close with brush adjustments, but the pentool is the best kept non-secret. use it!!

  • @MrPhillyrick1 just takes too long...i just spent 9 hrs in the same spot because of the pen tool

  • lol, wacom cintiq, no wonder XD

  • Its just a default brush and a default eraser... nothing more to explain.

Check description of the video for real tutorials, there is a link to my blog.

    Cheers

  • i have a cintiq.. its still really hard bro. it makes me want to just go back to traditional. a good rapheal #3 would get that inking job done in seconds. vectors are chill tho. inking in photoshop is just plain hard.

  • Think about the advantages of digital mediums... dont give up, its just about time, when you learn to do it properly and speedy it will be great and much cleaner than traditional mediums.

If you preffer vector inking go for it, actually what make Cintiq so good is at time to paint, not when inking.

  • This is fucking bullshit, it makes me want to cry... HOW TO YOU GET THE LINES SO PERFECT!? ARGH! And when drawing the lineart with my tablet it is never this smooth

  • Not sure how skilled you are but if you dont have a Cintiq forget about handmade inking, try using vectors.

Tablets are good to paint but for drawing its a pain :(

  • and intuos tablet can do anything a cintiq can do, so if that's what you're using and you can't do it it's you not the tablet.

  • @Time2Fraps hey uses a wacom cintiq so its basically like drawing a on paper

  • @Time2Fraps he might be using a cintq tablet,

  • This is a great tutorial man thanks. The I've looked at your tutorials and the lines really do compliment the colour and shading. I'm trying out something different though with the lines, trying to get a chalk effect goin. Anyway thanks again!

  • This is great stuff! I have been looking for an alternative to buying Illustrator (just for inking). Inking is the only reason I have to buy Illustrator. It would be nice if Adobe would give Photoshop a vector Brush. I have the Wacom Intous 3 (not so good for clean digital inks). I imagine with the 'Cintiq' its better!

  • holy smokes, this is gnarly. My brush strokes don't do that (sharpen with light hits and thicken with heavy) I have to keep going back and shaving down a sharp edge with my eraser tool. Very, very cool, dude. Do you by chance know what those tablet/tables are that I see people using on some of these vids? I might go for that bugger than this Bamboo I have...

  • Yes I have a Cintiq, if you can afford it go with them (1000US$ the cheaper), the others tablets wont make a big difference respect your Bamboo.

  • how do u change ur inking preferences??? like u said try inking at 5000x5000...how do u change that?

  • Just when you open a new document those settings appear, if its already open then go to Image>image size.

  • Ah, a lot of my questions were answered in the comments below. I just started doing some drawing with my Intuos 3 and was having a heck of a time with my lines not looking 'proper'. Very jagged and not sharp at all. Watched a few of your vids now, you do fantastic work man. Thanks for posting, I've learned a lot from watching and reading the comments on a few of these vids. I will now definately try inking at a higher res. Does DPI matter? I've beein inking at 1024x768 @ 350dpi

  • Hello buddy, you are welcome :)

The DPI just affect at the levels of zooms you can do, the amount of pixels is the same, so just important when saving the final image.

    Cheers.

    Sergio

  • The work is great, but you can't call this a tutorial. All it is a speed vid of you doing an ink job.

  • No too much too say... I just use the brush and eraser, the rest is just drawing.

  • Well it's not so much the mistakes I'm worried about..it's just that on my tablet, when I zoom it, the lines become extremely choppy and become pixelated, do yours not do that?

  • Its what I told you, bigger size you use, more room you have to play. Obviously more zoom you do, worse it looks, the important is it looks good at the final size.

Try inking your draw at 5000x5000px, you will notice the difference.

Also you should use sharp brushes (first brushed of the defaul list) and obviously lot of patience and practice.

  • Actually, a third thing too. This does depend on which tablet you're using, but how do you zoom in that close and your lines stay perfect and don't become pixelated?

  • It doesnt depend on the tablet, its depending on the resolution of your canvas.

I usually ink at 5000x5000px, so when finished the small mistakes are not noticeable.

  • Two things. One, what Cintiq tablet do you use? And two, what's an indicator to know when to make a line thinner or thinker? I'm struggling with inking right now, I just can't quite get the hang of it.

  • Hey, I just wondered how you have the lines at normal thickness in the middle and pointy at the ends. Thx! =D

  • Its just hand made, I paint the thickness, not a real feature of the brush. Also a wacom tablet helps, but its not perfect either, I need to do lot of retouchs.

    Cheers.

PS: Sorry for the late reply, I was in hospital during the last 2 weeks.

  • waht are you brush settings set to? i can never find the right one for me XD

  • Hello Mate, I use standard brushes, I just vary the thickness.

  • Muy bueno, queda perfecto. Eso sí que es sacarle partido a la Cintiq!

  • Nice inking!

Around 3:40 the lines on the cape are a little edgy and then you came through and cleaned them up. Did you just use the eraser to clean up that edge? Your lines are very crisp and clean.

  • Thanks buddy, yep, it is. I just do that, I do a rough line and then I clean it up with the eraser, history brush and the brush.

  • Hello Amette, Im drawing directly over the screen with my Wacom Cintiq, its because I can do it, if not you can use vector drawing tools, I have another video about that :)

  • good job, i cant draw lines like this :)
