the radiation argument doesn't make any sense. you experience a lot of ionizing radiation just by flying in an aircraft at high altitudes where shielding of cosmic radiation is very low.
also, these body scanners supposedly don't function using high-energy radiation (X-Rays). it uses radio waves, and denser objects show up as darker spots on the image. what bothers me is that i believe these scanners will not be able to detect the items they wish to detect. that's why i am suspicious.

They say it is safe... but the level of radition necessary to see through clothes and it winds up being able to see some skeletal features too... it's just too much radiation. Someone who flies quite a bit, coupled with some dental work and x-rays at the dentist... is going to have the cummulative effects of all that radiation in their bodies. the radiation argument doesn't make any sense. you experience a lot of ionizing radiation just by flying in an aircraft at high altitudes where shielding of cosmic radiation is very low.
also, these body scanners supposedly don't function using high-energy radiation (X-Rays). it uses radio waves, and denser objects show up as darker spots on the image. what bothers me is that i believe these scanners will not be able to detect the items they wish to detect. that's why i am suspicious.

Yep. Using that reasoning, fluoride is good for you too, because it's present in "natural amounts" in the water. This completely ignores the fact that the amount of background radiation you are exposed to is gradually absorbed, as opposed to the less-than-a-second instant-shock your body gets from these airport body screeners. Keep listening to the scientific dictatorship though. Get irradiated over and over like a good cattle - anything to be safe from them 'terrists!

the background radiation you experience in the upper atmosphere, while flying in an aircraft, is damaging to your body. when you're on the ground, the upper atmosphere shields you from such radiation to a significant extent.
the radiation that these body scanners fire at you are radio waves (some of the lowest energy electromagnetic waves). the same thing that you use to listen to the alex jones show on your home receiver.
