  • If this ever happened to me... *Pause, Map, Return to Normandy, Accept*

  • rachni insects on the moon, wtf good i killed queen bitch, seems i have more work 2 do on earth.

  • also, i thought the sound was made by space cows. every time i noticed it, the were space cows present.

  • oh, god, mako!

  • gamermd83

  • I wonder if the rachni are actually on the moon or if this was just a easter egg. I hope there really there that will make me3 pretty interesting. I remember hearing the song on other planets as well just can't remember which ones. Thanks md for requesting this vid.

  • it sounds like whale song

  • The only thing worse than driving the MAKO is watching someone else drive it. But this was worth it!!

  • I didn't hear anything.

  • @chrisgonatakethepiss You don't hear the "whale" like sounds? That's it

  • is image of earth seems to be a mirror image(right to left)

  • What the heck are rachni doing on the Moon?

  • Rachni = Space whales

  • its a trap

  • Im 100% sure I heard it near the edge of a map on one planet (one of those that are covered in red sand), it kinda creeped me out, but I thought its just a glitch or something...

  • This scared the crap out of me when i was playing once. Then i thought, that's singing?

  • lol, "Luna" it's "moon" on Spanish

  • @shadowkiller3500xd Luna is the name of Earth's satellite. Sol is the name of Earth's parent star. They just don't really use words like "sun" and "moon" in Spanish.

  • @Anonym0109 Huh? Didn't know that, thanks for the info!

  • I remember the first time I heard those Rachni songs...it was, like, late at night, so I understandably crapped my pants...

  • i was playing this at midnight and this scared the shit out of me

  • Hoping that Bioware remembers this for Mass Effect 3! Reapers coming on Earth and the Rachni on moon. Why shouldn't the Rachni come if you helped the Rachni queen! Tresher Maw helped, now the Rachni...

  • @JamesBondHero Everyone MUST help, even enemies, this isn't about humanity, it's about every species in the galaxy, and the reapers want to wipe out everything, just like they did with the Protheans, so conflicts should stop to defeat the major evil, the reapers.

  • @JPMHUDProductions I can only agree. It is somewhat comical that throughout the games (so far) the different species of the galaxy are more concerned with their petty politics and xenophobia. If the galaxy is to survive everyone needs to stand together. And about the rachni: I trust the rachni queen. She seemed very reasonable both in ME1 and 2. And do hope that she will keep her promise of helping against "the coming darkness".

  • oh wow, never noticed this before. the little things you miss... mass effect <3

  • >sound...in space

Honestly I would be more scared if just on the horizon was a Thresher Maw or whatever they're called. But this is pretty cool.

  • Jesus this is so creepy I loved how you can find a lot of stuff in ME but never found it so creepy. This is really good

  • my only question is why would Bioware take the time to put random locations on a bunch of planets in the hopes for a player to discover only to listen to a rachni song?

  • I dont understand how do you know this was a rachni song?

  • @IcyScythe It is explained that the Rachni communicate "through song" so understandably when they are talking it sounds like singing.

  • I kinda find it funny how you pass by the lunar probe, an artifact of space conquest, stop, hesitate, then just keep going without giving a shit.

  • The Mako was awesome! Although to be fair, the handling was a pain, and the missions usually blew! but idk, the 6 wheels, big cannon, thrusters, and the badassery of watching it land? Are just awesome! The Hammerhead is total crap! The thing has no armor, floats?? so gay! and it shoots rockets!! That is the dumbest thing for a supposed TANK to shoot! Not to mention the thing is supposed to hold all those rockets, any and all stupid artifacts it picks up, engines, and 3 passengers! It also freezs

  • I miss the mako alot in ME2 but hey firewalker aint that bad!!

  • Yeah, this is the rachni song, the rachni song, the rachni song.

    lalalalalala

  • I do have to wonder though, its not ever established precisely how the Rachni manage to travel through Space...The Queen does say due to their Hive mind and their biotic powers they can "hear" The Singers song even over vast distances of space. I wonder if perhaps they have some biotic means of FTL since they do seem to spread quite rapidly once the Queen has been freed. Also the "history" says they multiply rapidly. I personally can't wait to be among a chorus of Singers, it will be amazing.

  • Amazing that there can be any sound on the Moon (Luna) considering there is no atmosphere, hence no air, hence no sound. Also equally amazing we can hear "wind" in an airless environment :)

  • @SciBishop

Three simple words: Rule of Cool.

  • @SciBishop artistic license, it would be a boring environment to have a world sounding as if you pressed mute on your tv

  • @SciBishop The same goes for all the epic starship battles in space.

  • I sort of stumbled across how to make this sound... I whistle and hum at the same time... After encountering one of these songs on Nepmos, I just started fooling around and did it... It sort of sounds like the song... Do it and tell me what you think?

  • Jump to 1:50 to hear the singing.

    It's so goddamn beautiful.

  • wow i allways wondered what those creepy but fascinating calls in the distance were, i allways tried to drive 2wards them to try and find out what was making them but never found anything

im so happy that its the rachni, i love the rachni and i let the queen go on every one of my playthroughs, i really hope we see more of them in mass effect 3, i think they are a realy cool race!

  • @StevoE26 Of course we will see more of them entire fleets of rachni burning out the darkness.

  • @templar684 but what will the rachni fleets look like? I mean basically they are sentient insects, and the queen wasn't particularly large although she was a "young" queen. I bet the Rachni "ships" are elder Rachni which arry the younger within. THAT would be worth seeing a Giant Insect kick the "ass" of a Reaper vessel in 1 on 1 combat.

  • @StevoE26

Yes. You'll probably see them in ME3. I have a hunch that you'll have a lot of allies if you took Paragon choices through the earlier games (saved the Krogan genophage data, convinced the Quarians to not go to war, brainwashed the heretic Geth, saved the Rachni queen).

With friends like that, who needs the Council? :D

  • @IAmTheStig320 True, but I daresay the Batarian's will side with the Reapers just because Shepard nuked their star system. Then again, they'd side with the reapers simply because they'll be killing humans.

I hope the rachni and geth support don't get indoctrinated. Last thing I want to do is to kill off my own allies. I wonder what a fleet of Rachni will look like?

  • @StevoE26 Indeed, The Rachni are a nod to the "orignal" misunderstood insect sentients The Formics (Ender's Game)

If you pay attention to the Queen's words in ME1, she clearly tells you they were "taken over" by the Singer of the sour yellow note who caused her species to sing its "song"and silenced the Rachni singers. Since to the rachni their very essence is bound by their conception of The Song its clear she is describing the Reapers and their past "indoctrination" of the Rachni.

  • @assaultriflesforever Lets hope ME3 (in six months :/ ) will have some damn creepy atmosphere while exlporing uncharted planets. I would love to see some Dead Space influences for some really creepy shit (OK maybe Im going too far but...)

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper Well overlord showed that bioware can scare us to death. So its quite posible.

  • are you 100% sure it was rachni..??

  • @PosingAdrianIPL I think so...I mean, what else can it be...It cant be a trap :P

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper do you know that i dont know :P ??

  • I heard that on the planet with the science station during the Geth incursion. It sounded like a missile flying by so I started looking around, then I thought it had something to do with the 'beacons' lining the road to the station. NOW I KNOW.

  • @Ratch3ta :)

  • I really miss the creepy atmosphere of the uncharted worlds. They really felt dead and empty, filled with mysterious corpses and abandoned camps. They always sent shivers down my spine and I always made sure to wrap up my business on them as soon as possible, Ya' know, before I started hearing mournful voices carried on the wind or something.

  • @IncurablePessimist I agree.

  • Admiral! There be whales here!

  • Hers what I think: save the Rachni in #1 and repurpose the Geth in #2, Rachni and Geth will help you fight the reapers in #3

  • @ArcKing01 I hope so. I like both rachni and geth. Legion is my favorite character in ME2.

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper God... Is there a Legion fanclub I can join? I'm going to be laughing with insane glee once I make sure I do everything I can to kill Tali (and Jack and Jacob but that's not relevant) in my final playthrough to carry over to ME3, along with making sure the Quarians get slaughtered if we're allowed to choose the fate of each race. That will be so awesome, and I will reap a just revenge on Tali's people.

  • @A7XRules4life lol...Sick of Tali-mancers??? :P

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper That, and I just hate Quarians for the whole trying to kill the Geth just because the latter gained sentience thing.

  • @A7XRules4life I agree.

  • @ArcKing01 I remember reading from some magazine leaks that repairing the Geth is a negative impact on you, but the Rachni come back to help you.

  • ....I was hoping for somthing with a bit more "Ommph", you know?

  • Rachni on Luna O.O... oh Shit son!

It's Starship Troopers all over again :((

  • @neferiusnexus WRONG. They are getting ready to attack the reapers when they arrive. They are camping little bastards.

  • @TheArchimado Yeah, that was Before I found out the Rachni were actually supposed to (kinda?) be the good guys :P

  • @bl4cKnWhit3 oh but they can hear you sing lol

  • @HisNoLifeQueen LOL!!!

  • Wow, this is amazing. I never knew about this until I read it on the Mass Effect wiki. Their songs are very mysterious... Creepy, but also beautiful in a way.

  • Ugh. 2am, no lights, minimised to look up the next planet, come back, THIS. Someone at Bioware owes me a coffee and a new keyboard.

  • @dartigens10 LOL

  • How do you think they get turned into husks in ME3? ;)

  • @GeminiSubmachiner Interesting...Maybe some turian and salarian husks (don't want krogan husks cause they're tough already so...krogan husks? :O )

  • I heard someone say: "Who says that's a Rachni?"

    What else could it fucking be? :{

    Creepy.

  • @KMxHearts Aliens and Predators or some other H.R. Giger freaky creep :P

  • (Spoilers)

How do we know that's the Rachni? I thought they were supposed to be extinct at the time of ME1. Shepard free'd (or killed) them in ME2. So this couldn't be the Rachni.... Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @LennyCox Well, that's what I thought in the beginning BUT dont forget that the rachni were capeable of space flight (they even fought an interstellar war). Those sounds can be radio signals (in other words echos from the past) that are picked up by Shepard's suit, as it takes looooooooooooooong time even for light to travel from one star to another and we know that Milkey Way has a diameter of more than 100.000 Light Years so radio signals or whatever else is that would be even more slower.

  • @LennyCox Moreover, if you go to Altahe in the Acheron System of Styx Theta, you'll find a nice little colony of hostile Rachni holed up in a bunch of mounds.

  • Quick Question: What the heck are Rachni doing on the MOON!!??!?!

  • OMG I loved Mass Effect. Even if planet exploration turned out to be boring after a few planets.

  • Comment removed

  • Heard this for the first time on my 3rd or 4th playthrough on some random planet. Scare the living shit out of me, since I had no idea what it was, despite having played the game plenty of times before. I spent 10 minutes hiding behind the Mako with my shotgun out.

  • two funny as shit things happened to me when i went here.

    1) shitting bricks before i remembered how come people said whale came from the moon

    2) as soon as i turn around, a rocket from the turrets (far yet visible) hits me and kills me xD

  • i was shitting bricks, thinking that something was coming for me! then i remembered other references on how "whales came from the moon". nice chance to add eerie whale songs on the moon bioware

  • Damn, i miss this, Mass effect 1 was so AWESOME because they had put in stuff like this, it made the exploring worth it :) i still explore entire planets when i play, just to hope that i find something

  • actually very tactical choice of location for the rachni. when the reapers attack earth, the rachni won't have to travel too far to assist in the fight.

  • @JeffWaffles Wait... this was in ME1. This happened before the Rachni were in debt to Shepard.

  • How freaky would it be to start hearing this stuff from your backyard or somewhere. I would flip the hell out, Rachni are scary.

  • One question: How do we know these sounds come from the Rachni? Is it explained within the game?

  • why are the rachni on the moon and how did they get there, i mean it's so close to earth and stuff....

  • We're whalers on the Moon, we carry a harpoon. But there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales and sing our whaling tune.

  • Reminds me of the Brachiasaurus from Jurassic Park.

  • What the hell are Rachni doing so close to earth?

  • Today, we join the Toast King listening to space whales on the moon.

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that's what it was!!!!!!! Omg, I heard it before (not in Luna) and I was like wtf, is that some monster coming to get me and kill me with one hit? The air is full of colorful songs again I guess, not like the flat notes from human speech.

  • @dnangelical Hehe. Its really creepy but on the same time so beautyful like the whale songs.

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper Yes, I get the sense that was the idea there. Mass Effect can take you so deep in the game universe you might get lost, and this is but one of many examples of things that get you into it.

  • @dnangelical For me its the best PC game ever. It has one of the best scenarios Ive ever seen, everything looks so "realistic-like" from the nature you see on the planets to the spaceships and how everything works, and the best part is that after each game (especially the 1st) it lefts you with more question than answers. Cant wait for Mass Effect 3. I saw the treiler and my heart was going to blow!!!

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper I know!!! Games don't get much better than that, unless they add virtual reality XP.

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper It's been 3 years since ME1 came out and I'm playing through it differently. I made a different class making different decisions (i.e. when I first got the game I made the decision to kill the Asari on Ferros and kill the Rachni Queen, amongst others). Then in ME2 (using the same character), i shut down the geth and obviously other important decisions. With my new character i did the exact opposite and i can't wait to see how it affects ME3! Bioware did some great work

  • @MassEffectSoulRipper Well, with the Rachni on Luna and generally indebted to Shepard for allowing thier species to live... perhaps they will make a reappearence in ME3. *crosses fingers*

  • @dnangelical One question: How do we know these sounds come from the Rachni? Is it explained within the game?

  • Sounds more like belching.

  • Thank you, been looking for that for a long ass time now. Sounds kinda' creepy.

  • I've been trying to find that for a year. So thats what is sounds like...

  • I miss driving the Mako... :(

  • @sErgEantaEgis12 I don't really miss the Mako, but I DO miss having a vehicle with armor made out of something other than rice paper

  • @Guyect heheh

  • @Guyect The funny thing is, the particle effects emitted by weapons in Mass Effect aren't relative to a successful shot at all, and they tend to move at slow speeds. So even if you think you're dodging that dastardly cerberus turret like a smug motherfucker, you'll still spontaneously combust.

  • did realy someone took the time to find somethng like this? must have been droped by some programmes that it exists. i think noone would fin it on his own.

  • Woah, thanks for uploading this, been looking for it everywhere
