I started tonight listening to Kiri doing this, and I love her version, but then, on a whim, I clicked on this and was blown away. Don't know where I've been, but never heard or saw her before. The combination of voice, theatrical talent, and vibrance just moved Kiri to #2 in doing this piece. Welcome to my A list, Audra.
@sealove36 I had not heard of Audra until a few years ago, but she is a four-time Tony award winner, winning two for musicals. She won a Tony award for this part. I would also recommend her version of Edelweiss and Someone to Watch Over Me, among many others.
I have loved this song for over forty years I I'm in my mid-fifties)and Audra's version is the absolute zenith of romantic perfection I have yet heard. I am a romantic fellow and I adore the concept of being in love with a wonderful woman. Audra's performance paints that desire wonderfully. What would we do without the Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammersteins, Frank Loessers, Irving Berlins of this world.
When I first heard this song in a production of Carousel, I kind of shrugged and said "Well, that's nice, I guess." Then I heard Audra sing it and I said "Wow, that's great." It's interesting how a performer can make such a difference. I guess that's part of the reason she received a Tony award for that part.
She didn't say "HERRING"! But she's still so excellent. I saw her for the first time as Carrie Pipperidge in 1994 in LCT's revival of CAROUSEL and have been a fan since.
I love Audra. She is phenomenal (for lack of a better word); but does any else have an urge to take an iron to her dress?

Audra's real talent is that she makes this look so easy. Technique to burn but it doesn't show.

This is essentially a perfect rendition of this piece. McDonald has unbelievable vocal talent.
The only objection I have is the orchestral percussion, starting at 1:51. I don't think that is in the original score. Maybe it was just mixed wrong.
