According the Rhoads family the black tape was to conceal the bright white color while sitting on stage, when not in use. Sharon Osbourne wanted nothing visible other than stage props. No amps, no guitars. Personally I would have told her to fuck herself if she asked me to put tape on my guitars.

@eramir228 The tape on the back was so that before he started playing, he could be on stage and flip the guitar over and nobody in the crowd would know he was on stage. Back on the Diary Of A Madman Tour he would be behind this Cage thing wiith all his amps and then he would come out after the drum intro to Over The Mountain

@eramir228 The tape was used because when Randy would walk out onstage with Rudy Sarzzo the white outline of his guitar would give away his grand entrance to the stage. Thus, to conceal the big surprise (which was Randy himself) he would turn the guitar face down and then flip it nomally so he could start the songs! Hope that helps! p.s - check out some of my vids!

When on tour with Ozzy, during the opening of the show, noone could be seen on stage until the lights came up. Randy put the tape on the back and would flip the guitar around so it wouldn't be seen.

@jnorrisish The Les Paul, Polka Dotted V and the '56 triple pickup Les Paul as well as his amps, pedalboard and gear are in safe storage. Ms. Rhoads has had them locked up since Randy passed. She won't mentioned where the 'safe storage' is, not even her kids know.

Randy's playing sounds like someone is pulling out of your hair and it makes that specially noise and crystal clear. Every note has his message. Edward plays like the fire works from 4th of July. It's like million lollypops are falling down from the sky. I was lucky enough to spend my high school years in 80's with these genius musicians. I should have never quit playing guitar and should have went to concerts. If I could only turn back the time, I'll learn how to play a guitar or drum .

Its a darn good replica though, they even had the Duck Tape on the back of this. I thought it was the real one till I watched that NAMM show present of it too. Whoever replicated the guitar in the video did darn good. But in the description it said Mrs Rhoads made it possible so maybe this is the real guitar and not a replica though.

The Polka Dot guitar Randy had was a Flying V, Randy even called it a "Flying V" on his order form for Scandoval. The only thing thats not what a flying v would have was the harpoon style headstock. Yes the White Jackson wasn't a Flying V and his Black Jackson but the Polka Dot Guitar was a Flying V.

If you want to get a les paul like randy's, he used a Burny les paul custom copy. Made in japan. Don't know how much they run for but I'm sure they're less than a real les paul custom, which will set you back almost 4 grand.

The Only V's around were the flying v's, so the first ever jackson guitar produced was randy rhoads' custom made FLYING v...

though randy didnt like it much, because it wasnt unique, the final Rhoads made is the current Jackson Randy Rhoads..

The King V was introduced later, as a double Rhoads (two of the RR's long wings), and later the wings were shortened a bit, by Dave Mustaine who popularized the Jackson king V we see today!
