All you 911 snobs need to wake up and smell the performance.. the Boxster/Cayman is a superior platform. The Cayman S ran an identical time at VIR as the Carrera S (both with the new PDK) despite a 60 HP power deficit! I own a 2006 911 S but had a Boxster S before... I will likely go for a Cayman S next go-round if they keep upping the power.

What's the point of this car?

The only selling point of the Boxster is, that it's a luxurious roadster.

If you want a stripped down roadster, a Lotus Elise SC is 400kg lighter, faster and significantly cheaper ($6000 in the USA, 12000€ in Germany - funny how the Boxster is that much more expensive in it's country of origin)

And the Lotus comes with cupholders and a radio :)

The Boxster Spyder is only here for marketing purposes.

I like the fact that you are getting less car (no automatic roof) for more money (not!) Same with the Cayman/Boxster. Normal manufacturers charge more for the convertible, not visa versa.....

Yeah, you're basically getting a bit of tarpaulin to stretch over your head, which is only "suitable" for low speeds. Where I live it pisses rain 24/7 so I think I'll hang on to my standard Boxster.

Not convinced the performance advantage over the "S" is worth the impracticality. Think those humps look a bit silly too, if I'm honest. But I suppose that's a subjective issue.
