This December 6 it will have been 5 years since this was done. I now yoke over 900 lbs, deadlift over 600 lbs and farmer's walk 350 lbs per hand(700 lbs) for 50 ft. No back problems! In fact I've got back cleavage with rows of muscle. My backs doing better than ever. I'm 42 and foresee my best numbers and times still ;)
Don't you just love these little gameboy nobodies that always say shit like, "Bad form", "You'll wreck your back", etc., to someone who's just mandhandled a 500# DL? Okay, not everyone can hoist 900#, but a 500# DL is much like a 300# bench -- it's a benchmark that your diehard lifters want to achieve. It takes work, effort, and perseverance. Oh, and I've yet to meet a single lifter (and I've been hitting iron for over 45 years) that "wrecked" his back doing DL's. Keep lifting, bro!!
@Dayga I did. I fucked up my disc on deads. 3 years ago I was doing singles with 750. Felt pretty good even two hrs after I got home. When I woke up next day I coudln't even stand up. I was crowling to the bathroom like a toddler. Since than I'm having pain in low back area on daily basis. Every morning I'm looking like letter S. Got to take hot shower before I do anything else. As long as I'm not keep compresing my low back I can do anything.
@Dayga I'm originaly from Belarus. I did compete in Olympic in 1996(weightlifting). 4th place. I was just 21 years old. My best deadlift was 820 (110kg /242pounds) but we're(as oly weightlifters) using wider grip than powerlifters. Close to snatch grip position. I'm 6'5" 305pouns so I got to pull very fast right from the begining. If I can bring it over my knees I'm fine. At this point I'm just affraid to max out again. Triples even doubles are OK.
@m5p944 I'm 59, and have been lifting since I was a teenager, wanting to bulk up a bit for wrestling, boxing... and of course to look good for the ladies. As it turned out, I stayed with it all my life, and although I'm not a large man (6-0, 200#), I've always strived to improve my overall strength and fitness. It must me quite satisfying knowing you competed at the international level as an Olympian. What a superb accomplishment! It's good to know you are still a warrior!
halfhott: I'm big but not as dumb as you because I have a decent understanding of English grammar. Change your handle to: halfass, halfthere or halfabrain.
@brysonl51 thats good. the heavy weight record at my school was 490 and i did 500 on a diamond bar earlier this year when i was a sophmore.im a jr now and im tryin to do more to secure the record
i can actually do more with the straight bar but i keep both hads over the bar. i dont like them doin diff directions. work hard and eat good and you'll get there
How long did it take you to get up to 500lb x6 reps? I deadlifted for the first time ever yesterday and got 500lb for 1 rep easily. I don't know if that's good though considering I weigh 345. I think I could get a lot more but I have a tendency to use my arms to pull the weight more instead of my legs and back like you are suppose to.
Great. I have a horrible deadlift and could use some help with technique. I can Squat 7 plates for about 5 reps and bench 515 for one raw but my deadlift is only about 425, when I try to go higher its as if I am afraid that I will hurt my back but going heavy on everything else seems natural. I just don't know.
excellent, non of this touch and go crap, you actually stop and let out the tension in your muscles, that makes it a lot harder but is the proper way to do it. Unfortunately I had to stop at 500, hurt my back, but I should be getting back into it. By the way what do you squat?
To do the very best I can! That's should be your point too Pal. Go to the gym and kick giant a**! Beat your best until you are right up there with the best! I should get 500 Lbs. for ten in July for the 1st time ever. That's my point. RUSSA

About a month ago, I did a 507 lb. Deadlift for a set of eight without a belt. My one rep max for Deadlift is 651 lbs., so a 507 lb. Deadlift for sets of eight should be normal for me.
Even though doing moderately heavy Deadlifts without a belt is risky, its an excellent way to build your abdominal muscles and you get much stronger in the long term.
However, when attempting weights close to 1 repetition maximums, ALWAYS WEAR A BELT.
