Can't believe all this Quad 4 hate I'm seeing here. Understandably the older Quad's had some issues and may not have been AS reliable as later versions. If maintained properly they run for a long time. Had over 200k on my 95 and that was with me beating the piss out of it.
I love how this guy says the engine was on its last leg but it started right up and ran and reved just fine, even without oil. Fucking Retards that are in this world.
@shinyfuzzy Okay don't EVER try and tell me i know nothing about engines or cars. I can fix anything from a lawn mower to a bull dozer. I've worked on just about everything except toyota and honda pieces of shit, those i would blow up and send to the scrap yard. Go fuck yourself and maybe next time you will post a useful comment instead of one suggesting you still suck on your moms tits for breakfast.
That's funny that all the backyard mechanics who apparently got overwhelmed by these engines totally ignored the fact that so far NO GM 4-cylinder engine has made more horsepower than the Quad4. That "shitty" 3.4? It had to be electronically derated over 50hp because Hydramatic could not keep a 4T60 trans alive behind them. You guys shouldn't automatically bash engines because you find them too hard to work on. Maybe stick to a 150hp 305.
I've had many GM's that have gotten close to 200K still running and looking like new... I don't see the big rage against the GM engines...Maintainance seems so FOREIGN to people...
@tona6g72 I agree the Quad 4 was crap, but I had one of the first 3.4L Twin-DOHC engines in my 91 Z34 and I sold it with almost 300,000km. The engine and 4-speed auto both worked perfect and were original and never had a single problem. The engine was always run on synthetic blend oil, and of course had the timing belt done three times at that point, and the transmission was flushed every 2 years, so it's prolly just a case of them needing regular maintenance.
Fords are great. I got a 2006 F250. Modified to stink, bully dog programer, twin turbo, dual stacks, smoke switch, ram air. 842horse 901ft/lbs of torque.
thats clearly the front end of and Olds Cutlass...that Quad 4 was a bitch to work with but its development paved the way for GM's Ecotec engines we see today.
i love my '89 f-250 reg cab, and it only has a 5.0. we also have 2 brand new f-150s, a super cab with the 5.4 and a super crew with the 4.6. for is size that 4.6 is very powerful, and it's a v-8 so it's not punched out and therefore is extremely hard to blow. both are great trucks and i have no complaints. our '03 f150 has over 1k miles on it and is totaly stock down to the battery, and has had a load on it its whole life, except just recently. runs great, too.
hey, bring it. i'll take up a drag anyday. unfortunately all we hae right now is trucks, which are not made for drag racing, although our new f-150 is pretty sweet when you gun it from zero, or from anything else for that matter. and i'll run over your toaster any day thank you very much. you know what? i'll go run over the first toaster i see.
Why the comments on the "Chevy" Quad 4? The Quad 4 was an Olds engine. If you overlook the Diesel Olds 260/350 fiasco (which I think was a corporate screw-up as much as Olds), this is the only Old engine I can think of that was total junk. And junk it was!!!
well oldsmobile is gm, as is chevy. they are exactly the same thing. so, therefore, it's just as much a CHEVY quad 4. also, more people know chevy than olds, so they call it chevy. it's just a more popular name.
Unlike Ford and Chrysler, GM used to have division engines. They had 4 brands of 350 engines(for example), none the same at all. While that changed, each division still made certain engines, and there were duplicates such as the Buick 4.3 and Chevy 4.3 V6's - far from the same. So to say the Quad 4 was Chevy is about as accurate as saying the Northstar is a Chevy engine.
I know they´re a pain to work on. But fix them properly and they will run just fine. My 92 GTZ has over 200000 kilometers done with the original engine. Did one head gasket swap with a new and revised Felpro gasket and since then never had a problem. I never rev the engine past 2500 rpm when cold though.
yeah, i drive alot for work , just traded in a 96 lumina that had 276,000 for a new impala....still have a 2.2 s10 with 247,000 miles on it. change the oil and no jigger rig your repairs and they'll live forever
dude any chevy engine is easy to blow, as is any dodge engine, and maybe ford, if you really try. and chevy makes many v8s, which 1 are u talking about? they are all different.
currently owning 2 f150s and an f250, plus many other fords and a couple chevys in the past i have to say you're wrong about fords. fords are awesome and i've never had 1 problem except a blown fuse from sticking a bubble gum wrapper in the cig. lighter. and an alternator from a loose battery terminal.
lol well ur nighbor must have had the brake on at the same time as the tranny, left the parking brake on, or something. maybe bottomed out on a rock an busted something up because there is no tranny that i know of that under normal circumstances (unless it's defective) that will go out that fast. if it's new then it wasn't broken in so if he was holding his brakes on that would be the problem.
actually they never made a 2.2 quad for they made a 2.3 quad 4 dohc, sohc, and high output dohc, then the renamed it overhead cam and made it 2.4, luckily i have the 3.4 v6 and not the quad4. o yea and the 2.2 was a different motor all together and they still make the 2.2 ecotech
You obviously don't know a whole lot about q4's ... maby you should only talk shit on things you know for a fact are crap, but i guess considering your nickname, you don't know a whole lot :)
They`re not junk at all. They only had a bad reputation because of the faulty stock head gasket. Swap it for a new Felpro and the Quad 4 will last for a long time. Mine still runs fine and revs up to 7400 rpm if needed.
snipped the trans cooler lines on the radiator to yank it and there was still some oil in the tranny so it squirted everywhere, you can see it squirt fluid
Well, unless he went in and completly tore the engine down, wiped it out, deflated all the lifters, cleaned all the bearings, etc., there is still residual oil that can splash out.
Hmm, that was unexpected., I mean, I thought I would see something more violent.
