I remember working the Mizpah Hotel and Casino in Tonopah in the spring of 1968. A Greyhound bus driver, whose regular route is was, came by one day with an Apollon mandolin. It was a more modern F-5, absolutely flame red (like a hot rod car), and had the name Dave Apollon inlaid in script letters along the fingerboard. Interesting to lok at, but a real dog, sound-wise. . .
"When a Gypsy Makes His Mandolin Cry". What an awesome rendition by an incredible mandolin virtuoso.
