I highly doubt that this document was made to create tensions between us two nations. man i saw this movie last night and it was soo bad. horrible film making. so many facts are misconstrued. 100% sensational. even the irrelevant points made in the movie are false. and all the so-called family owned bateyes actually belong to the CEA, old abandoned state owned sugar mills. I heard that the film maker, Bill Haney went to high school with one of the family members attacked in the film. Guess they didn't get along back then, so he decided to attack the family now... This very short trailer does not cover the whole story, nor does it represent the whole picture. I have worked with Haitian churches in the Dominican Republic, mostly in Bateyes, and can say that personally I have seen what is described here. But it is still not the whole picture: the Haitians are not slaves, and the idea of "quasi-slaves" is kind of vague. The images are misleading in a way, as if little kids routinely cut sugar cane.

What they got paid depended on the type of work they did. they did get paid less than dominican workers but they had no problem with it ..Back in 98 i remember the ones working around my town where getting paid btween 75-125 pesos a day with an exchange rate btween 15-16 pesos for every u.s. dollar u do the math and tell me if thats 90cents a day.
when they got back to her she yelled at them i guess she wanted money instead of food. NEXT year i go back same woman now with 3 kids and another woman with like another 2 kids all in the same spot begging not the adults but the kids.

the next year i went saw the baby was big and she was pregnant again but again i gave her like 10 dollars.
Year after that same story now with 2 kids and she was still there right in front of the dollar exchange place. Again year after that i went now the kids where big enough and she had them begging for her while she sat down pregnant AGAIN. I didnt give them money i bought the kids food and drinks.
For 14 years str8 i've been going to DR and back in 96 i started noticing how the hatian population was rising. We didnt think anything bad of it most of them worked selling ice cream buliding houses and what not. But as the years went on i started noticing that the women migrating over wheren't doing anything to improve their life other than beg for money. I saw this hatian lady at the same corner year after year begging for money 1st time i saw her she was pregnant....

According to the United nation, there is almost 1 million of Haitiens in Dominican republica. most of them are workers, who work in horrible conditions. They are also victims of discrimination and racism. Therefore, what theyre doing, even domincans would not do it. Bad treatment? It can happen in isolated events, just like any other country, some people have issues with inmigrants. Look at the clashes between venezuelans and colombians, mexicans and americans,etc.

This very short trailer does not cover the whole story, nor does it represent the whole picture. I have worked with Haitian churches in the Dominican Republic, mostly in Bateyes, and can say that personally I have seen what is described here. But it is still not the whole picture: the Haitians are not slaves, and the idea of "quasi-slaves" is kind of vague. The images are misleading in a way, as if little kids routinely cut sugar cane.

What they got paid depended on the type of work they did. they did get paid less than dominican workers but they had no problem with it ..Back in 98 i remember the ones working around my town where getting paid btween 75-125 pesos a day with an exchange rate btween 15-16 pesos for every u.s. dollar u do the math and tell me if thats 90cents a day.

For 14 years str8 i've been going to DR and back in 96 i started noticing how the hatian population was rising. We didnt think anything bad of it most of them worked selling ice cream buliding houses and what not. I agree the Dominican state needs to address the issue of Haitian discrimination. Another culprit of Haitian dehumanization is also the employers that provide Haitians with a salary and working conditions. The video would have been strengthen if it also took into account the selfishness of the economic system and the lack of protective laws.

Let me start by saying that Ulises Hereaux the worst dictator in Dominican history, was a descendant of haitians and he ruled from 1880-1899 and that was only 30 yrs after achieving independence from haiti, a country that not only invaded us, but had massacred thousands of our citizens in 1803-1805,1822. Today there are 4 million illegal haitians in the country, not counting the ones born there illegally.

There are other haitians working in other areas and earning some good money. I work as a labour lawyer for some construction companies and I know a few haitians that have gone from coming almost naked out of Haiti to having houses, cars,etc...living like any other dominican. Bad treatment? It can happen in isolated events, just like any other country, some people have issues with inmigrants. Look at the clashes between venezuelans and colombians, mexicans and americans,etc.
