For the finger picking pattern, which i consider far more essential and easier to learn before the chords; skip to 6:00. Then you can add whatever cords as you go along, or just practice without chords (I started by adding AM, and others, regardless of relevance)

Personally i just prefer finger picking without chords (learning it first)

@Tunafacation start out learning the basic chords and maybe try to learn some simple songs to keep things interesting, then maybe start on some scales. but the best thing is to practice, thats the single most important thing. hope this helped

I can't even have my index on the first 3 strings with my ring on the fourth without muting the third -.- and if I try to creep the ring finger around I lose grip on the high E.... any help with getting comfortable with this?

@Cbrennen10 While you have the 4th string pushed down with the ring finger, slide it away from the 3rd towards the 5th until your ring finger no longer touches the 3rd.

@Cbrennen10 I sort of tilt my fingers at an angle, that seems to help me. Then on the next part, I leave my pointer finger where it is, and bring up the middle finger to hit the 6th fret note, feel its easier to put the pinky on the 7th fret that way. Makes the 3rd 'verse' an easier transition imo.

I think this song sounds pretty nice when played with the fleshy parts of the fingers. I've got the same nail problem :P Justin did suggest using fake nails as a solution :)

@Danger12233 I've since retrained myself to play the right-handed parts properly, with the thumb covering the plucking of the low E, A and D strings and the forefinger, middle finger and ring finger plucking the G, B and e strings, respectively. I was getting my plucking fingers mixed up. The fleshy plucking sounds OK!

I'm struggling with the very first chord. When I bar the 3 strings, my 3rd finger mutes them. This is why I havrn't stuck with guitar. It seems like I have to be a magician. LOL!  I can never do anything without muting strings, or when I do bar chords, I can't get all of the strings to play.
