  • You don't need to percuss that's not a floor RNs responsibility or priority and if is then gtfo of nursing

  • She sounds like Ellen Degeneres.

  • Fantastic! Thank you so much :-)

You hit it all, very well!, and it is much simpler to run through after watching you

    Sincerely,

    Nursing Student

  • Thank you. It has been over one year since I was on the floor and I am on my last semester of nursing school after being away for a bit. This was a fantastic refresher. It appears to me that this is the quick assesstment done after patient has been on the floor and after the main assesstment done at admission. Though, I thought skin turgor is always done as a way to check for dehydration even though on this video the mucosa and mouth were checked. Thank you.

  • and lymphnodes, and edema? =/

  • what about proper chest and back rise upon inspiration? and what about percussing the costovertebral angle for kidney problems?

  • very nice, very helpful, but should'nt we start assessing the abdomen in the RLQ since that is where the large intestine starts?

  • Mermann....MERMAN!!!!

    -Derek Zoolander

  • bet you thats his mum (Y)

  • forgot lymphnodes assessment, and ROM on all joints but otherwise good job

  • forgot hand grasps, didnt check for edema, no skin turgor check, didnt percuss abdomen

  • This is almost exactly how our assessment lab ran for LVN/LPN

  • i didn't know Ellen Degeneres is a nurse (seriously...did you hear this woman's voice?!).

  • Shahzadrainmaker-with abdomen you inspect then auscultate before you palpate. Palpation before auscultation can alter the bowel sounds.

  • At first I wasn't sure if she said bowel sounds or vowel sounds. I thought is this school or a medical check-up?

  • he looks like a mermaid

  • Didnt see the hand grips

  • Very nice! a few things left out but overall she did great, my final exam is on monday and I have to do an assessment on my teacher, who is terrifying BTW, I hope it goes as smoothly as this one! :)

  • Negative - Never forget the order Inspection, Palpation, Percussion and then auscultation. Abdominal examination has to be more thorough with legs flexed slightly, check for hepatomegaly, splenomegaly.

Positive - Bilateral examination of pedal pulse, many people do it one foot (not right), she puts back the socks - leave the patient as you found him.

Overall good video and thank you.

  • @shahzadrainmaker "One would never palpate before auscultation, it would cause changes---especially when checking bowel sounds"

  • The nurse is such an old fufkala!

  • Am sure she is his MOM!

  • Should have left the light OFF !

  • Thank you so much for this video!! It's great. Everything went so smoothly. May God bless you Cathy!

  • Great video. Really helps to see someone else act the steps out.

  • thanks! i needed this

  • She forgot a few very important assessment points.

Check the apical pulse (full minute)

Listen to the 4 points of heart sounds.

Check all of the periferial pulses

    Check for Homgrens sign

It is also important to ask the patient about any pain he/she is having prior to begining.

She asked about bowls but did not ask about the characteristics

Questions about urine were also left out.

This was just off the top of my head.

  • She left out patency, EOM, listening to the carotid, ROM

  • the nurse is anyonning

  • The boy is so cute... Could you imagine a boy examinig him (not this woman)!!!

  • Thanx for posting this!!!!! I have a focus assessment I have to do w/my clinical instructor and this is straight to the point !!!!!!!

  • I would have thought that a head to toes exam would include the groin and thighs, buttocks etc! She didnt check any of those areas.

  • I truly feel uncomfortable while she is "aseptic". The patient does not know what PMI is. I think it would be important to include a brief description of PMI. Rational: Up close and personal around a breast/ explanation of procedure will promote trust. Nice that she warms the scope...only the second time. I think the video is great.

  • Wow I'm modeling this. Thanks!

  • Thanks for this. I'll recommend it to my medical English students

  • What's with the socks? I'm glad she took them off and examined his barefeet. She should have left the socks off and had him stay barefoot.

  • Its funny how i feel myself breathing deeply everytime he does. Very informative video!

  • Thanks mom

  • Actually I think she was the instructor, great video. I've got check offs tomorrow @ clinicals and I'm so nervous. This helped alot.

  • I'd like a check like that, with someone like her

  • Ya, a good exam, but don't most include a pelvic exam for hernia, swelling, etc?

  • He seems impressed. Not ;)

    Great video!

  • I think this video is one of the better exam videos I have seen. The exam ran smoothly and she seemed very confident.

  • Mr. Johnson lol
