  • Me thinks that losing a single engine in that bird would be fatal regardless of skill, given all the drag and extra weight. Does anyone think otherwise?

  • @Coderoid I correct myself. I saw a picture of a Beech 18 with sky divers on the left wing, and a man dangling by a prop blade from the FEATHERED left engine.

  • Would be nice to have floats on a twin Beech - but all that drag and weight!

I bet you won't see Matt Younkin rolling and looping THIS D-18!

  • look at all them cubs

  • That could not have been done better. He got it to the dock perfectly.

  • listen to them 985s talkin to ya lol

  • The directions to the seaplane base is correct, except it's lake Winnebago not Lake Michigan. You have to watch for signs since there isn't a real good view from hiway 45 and is easy to miss. Very tranquil place to visit.

  • where in oshkosh is this?

  • it's about 3 miles se off of highway 45 from the oshkosh airport, located in like a cove on lake michigan. Here's their website: oshkoshseaplanebase [dot] com

  • Those radial engines sound so good. It's a case where flat recip engines and turbines may be easier to operate, but that radial sound is so visceral that it makes it all worthwhile.

  • @Ayinger - Well said. An absolute riot of a noise.

  • Beautiful aircraft... must be good on fuel. lol

  • i thought it would be a real good bugger on fuel but u must fly bigger planes

  • Nah. Just cessnas and pipers. Whats the burn rate? 12-15 gph per engine?

  • to be honest im not too sure i just seen one in the museum here and been a fan of em since

  • FYI... The beech 18 floatplane will burn 46gph and will cruise at 127 kts. There is nothing fuel efficient about the beech 18

  • fxdwings is the one wanted to know..,

  • the Beech 18 is one hell of a fine plane.....

  • Nice dockjob :) Only twin floatplane I've flown is the twin otter, and it was a little easier to dock, with reverse and a swamper.

  • Nice video. I have gone to EAA many times, never been to the seaplane base yet. Next Year!

  • You must visit it was on of my highlights of the show for me...Sod those fast jets just go and chill out there
