@bailinnumberguy Apparently, you're not a chess player. It isn't about action. This was not a blitz tournament. Here we see two legendary players in action. What would you want t happen in this video?
@chessdrummer Actually I am a chess player. Obviously it's not about action, because there isn't any. I thought we'd see an interesting position or a blitz game, but they're in the opening doing nothing in particular. I'm not sure I'd characterize either of these players as 'legendary'. They'd both destroy me, but legendary?
@bailinnumberguy Yep... both are legendary players. Of course Nakamura is #8 in the world now. Tate has seen his best chess, but his dashing tactical wins have given him a following worldwide. Just to get these two on video playing each other is interesting. That's really the point.
@bailinnumberguy Also note the other players in the video GM Leonid Yudasin watching their game. Next to him is GM Mark Paragua playing IM Jay Bonin. Paragua won with a beautiful mate in seven! IM Oladapo Adu was also seen briefly. It's more of a documentation video than action. When you are taping you never know when the players will move so to criticize the video is presumptuous.
Well when --"god" comes to town and you hear people talk about him, you will understand that Tate is "god". Mr Tate will also agree that he is "god". Do not second guess "god"!!
@panxdaisy, yes and now wesley so missed the winning chances in games againts giri the indian wunder boy. wesley was up two pawns but lost the game anway.. what a waste for wesley. he needs a draw thats ok but no luck but still has 2 games to play. hes vying for 2nd place..
He is my uncle, even tho im from england, My cousin Andrew and tristan and there sisters dad and also it can be said like Emorys ex wife from englands sisters son.
He is an amazing chess player. He has done more for chess than many GMs. His creative ideas and improvisation are gifts. His mode of play is not always sounds, but he is able to create the type of games people talk about for years. See Tate-Yudasin.
Don't expect much sense from people who don't even take time to learn who the best chess players have been throughout history, most guys posting here are just ICC mouse pushers who don't know better!.
Emory Tate is a very good chess player who just don't care much for chess theory.
how many of us have expent our lives studying chess and still are far away from even dreaming of becoming IMs one day?
First,I repeat Budda.Emory is very good at his level.I have been a paid chess teacher 34 years. There are however, higher levels that make it important to realize just what the best players really have achieved.Being a "tactical beast" can be a weakness as well as a strength for it often tempts players to achieve a counterfeit initiative. Finally,Kasparov proved your statement wrong in his World Title Match against Anand...winning one game with the Dragon easily and drawing the other easily,
Spiritgifted, you have no idea what you are talking about. 1. Tate is a tactical beast. 2. ICC means nothing, hes not even good on there anyways. 3. Im sure you would get crushed by him otb in a Dragon, because, to be honest, playing the Yugo is better for white and those positions favor his style.
While i stand by my below comments,I want to also acknowledge Emory's numerous achievements in the chess world to draw players into the game and to always bring the "gladiator spirit"to his games. He has won numerous games against stronger opponents through raw courage...and for that he should be applauded.
Emory Tate is not a high level player.I beat him four out of four on the ICC this year. You cannot bluff strong players OTB at 3 minute blitz by premature attack. You ALSO can't play the Yugo against the Dragon as white in blitz and expect to win unless you have done a massive amount of study FIRST.
You beat him in blitz on the ICC and you determine he is not a high-level player??? Perhaps you're better at playing online than he is... or better at blitz. You ever considered that?
If Tate is not a high-level player at 2400, you are making a claim that you are. Correct? Your rating?
Look to the right in the related video section... those are blitz matches. If you don't know how to play then it really doesn't matter what they are doing in the video. If you are a player, then it's a strange comment.
One tactical genius against another tactical genius. Must have been a hell of a battle.

That might be the most boring 1:19 ever recorded. You could've recorded a snail crawling and created more excitement.

I met Tate at a SC chess club once... I still don't understand why he is God. He was a little arrogant for my tastes.
conard3 2 years ago
Played against him in the Indiana State open as practice. He is full of himself but he backs it up. He is an IM and is as good as GM rated players.
But still - He's really full of himself indeed.

Tate went on to lose this game, but in an interesting sidenote, Tate still remains the father of the universe.
