Scarlet is the best! She survived all this shit that happend to her. I hope I will be like her one day. She never loved Ashley, he was so useless... Rhett was the love of her live. Everytime I watch this movie I'm thinking about it what happend after Rhett was gone
Despite the war, illness, death, and poverty, Scarlet never gave up. If you think about, she never really " loved' Ashley at all ! He was the " fantasy" or the " carrot" she needed in order to endure the trials and hardship she would endure. the 'fantasy" of Ashley kept her going, if not, she would have died in Atlanta. Melanie was right, " Scarlet never loved Ashley"--she loved the " idea" of him. Of course, it took her forever to find out, but, she did. And, she survived. The theme is HOPE.
there is a very soap opera-esque feel about gone with the wind. i even like to call GWTW "The antebellum soap opera"
one of the things that gets me is that i don't know what to think about Scarlett. I respect her because she is tough as nails and she does what she has to do to survive in times of change, but she can be such a bitch. from the beginning, i was hoping that Ashley would marry her just so she would be miserable the rest of her life.
@pantherpatty That was the thing with Scarlett: she is very spoilt and ruthless throughout even with the ones that matter, but by the end she is supposed to have matured... a little!
the first time i saw the film, my parents told me that the film is sow sad that i will be crying during the whole film, but during the whole film i didn't even drop one tear....until the scene at the ending came. And i was so mooved by it i cryed then for about a half hour!!!
This is an amazing film; but it's sad that Vivien Leigh will only ever be known as 'That girl that played Scarlett O'hara' She's was such an amazing woman - a very rare beauty and a very powerful actress, no one comes close to Leighs talent, even Katherine Hepburn is crap compared to her.
THE DREAMS OF MR MULDOON is now out on AMAZON KINDLE @2.99.The publishers said this book would make a great film......you will love THE DREAMS OF MR MULDOON.Best wishes.

What a strong woman! A truly progressive role for women. Scarlett managed to survive the great change of the south and triumphed while others faltered. She is TRULY FIERCE! :)
This is the best ending in film history! Scarlett falls, cries and then rises up again, with her inherent trust in the future and "passion for life" (as Ashley said). That's life after all, a constant rise and fall. We never know if Scarlett & Rhett will be together again, but it doesn't matter, tomorrow is always another day....
People who have yet to discover the hidden gem that is classic movies are truly missing out. Feel free to disagree but compared to movies of old, the movies of today just dont measure up. Now every once in a while we'll get a titanic, troy, malcolm x, or forrest gump; but other than most current movies are kinda poopy in my opinion :(....
Watch Vivien Leigh's face after the voices remind her to return to Tara. She handles Scarlett's realization, passion, and determination all with the simple shifts in her eyes and face. Absolutely brilliant acting. Leigh was (and still is) peerless in her talent.
Anyone in Scarlett's place would take this decision in the middle of the 4-hour movie. If she did so, Gone With The Wind would be great and would deserve all the honors it has.
LOL, I was watching "Spongebob Squarepants" with my nieces and nephew. Plankton said this to Spongebob, "Frankly my dear Sponge, I don't give a barnacle!" Shocked the heck outta me. Even "The Nanny"
This movie is like... THE BOMB! I watched this over so many times.
Great movies have great endings..ex: Some Like It Hot, Sunset Blvd, The Right Stuff, Life Is Beautiful, Cinema Paradiso, The Godfather, et al, but none more than Gone With The Wind. David Selznick was a genius and He crafted this final scene and Vivien Leigh's artistry -rarely does a star become the character as well as Miss Leigh became Scarlett- made this scene immortal. Clark Gable, Olivia DeHavilland, Leslie Howard were great stars but this movie made Vivien Leigh the star of stars.
At 2h30min, she could solve her problems and save Tara. But NO, she get married with her sister's fiancee and go to the city. The following 90 minutes are torture.
Well, the last 90 min. are torture just for the ones who can't understand classics, cuz Gone With the Wind WAS one of the best movies ever made, and if you disagree, you should go watch somethin' like "Epic Movie".
I just don't understand why critics love it so much, and why it's considered the greatest movie ever. Gone With The Wind is four-hour epic tale about a mad woman, that get married three time with no love at all, and 20/30 years later finds out that she doesn't love Ashley when he is finally free.
@AlexandreFilho1705 How about Rhett's legendary lines? And an entire way of life being wiped out? And unrequited love? And ruthlessness and practicality? To name a few. Not to mention the movie itself is gorgeous.Maybe Scarlett is mad, but at least she's compelling
Best Ending Ever! The music at the end always gives me chills. Vivien Leigh was an amazing actress.

@minamu8 I agree. When I watch "Gone with the wind", I think: "What a great movie!". When I watch "Titanic", I think: "Any movie can win the Oscar".

@Commish1219 I wouldn't go that far. I actually like "Titanic" as much. There's both tied as my greatest film of all time.
