I saw a cat like that on YouTube and the owner called him "Frank and Louie". He is also known as a "Janus" cat named after the Roman God with Two Faces. He celebrated his 12th birthday on September 8, 2011. It is rare for such a cat to live that long as they usually die after a few days.

I think this happens when the DNA gets messed up and multiplies cells from the middle of the face onward, creating a symmetrical pair while the infant is still being conceived, or something. There's an article about it on wikipedia, and it happened to a girl who was born with two faces like this kitten. I think scientists can manipulate this to some extent, too. It's not always such a large part of the face that gets multiplied, though. Sometimes it can just be the nose, or less.

I'm glad the kid decided to keep it, the majority of owners probably would have disowned it because it's not "cute," the same way owners get rid of their kittens after they grow up because they're not "adorable" anymore. I would be so proud to have a cat like this, and probably end up being overprotective... after all, isn't it variety that adds mystery and wonder to life?

This looks like a case of conjoined twins, only there's hardly any seperation of body, with the exception being the front of the skull (face).
